California Republicans – You can make History by Voting for Mitt Romney
opinion | 02/04/2008 | brianbaldwin

Posted on 02/04/2008 7:20:15 PM PST by Brian_Baldwin

California Republicans gave us Ronald Reagan. California Republicans gave us a Governor who, in Reagan, made history. But where are these same Republicans today? Will you be willing to count your vote as history in the making - tomorrow? Because, the reality is the race has come down to McCain and Romney.

But I am worried. After all, many of my fellow Republicans not only gave us a man of history in Ronald Reagan, but they have also given our Nation another Republican Governor named Arnold.

Every vote counts. Today, in retrospect, do fellow Republicans of our Great State accept Arnold as anything like a Reagan, or for that matter, even a Republican?

When Arnold was running for Governor, he sounded at that time very much like John McCain today. And many, including myself, made a terrible mistake. Today, I do not even recognize that same Arnold. What a huge disappointment.

Arnold endorsed John McCain.

I am voting for Mitt Romney in tomorrows California Republican Primary.

What can I do to convince you to vote for Romney? Because, this is the time and the place when it is going to count. If you are a conservative, and thinking of voting for Huckabee – I want to honestly request you consider this. That you can make history, you can best server the voice of the conservative wing of our Party, by voting for Mitt Romney at this time. Because, it will all be decided tomorrow. That is the reality.

It is going to be McCain, or it is going to be Romney. Whoever the Republicans choose in this State, our State, California, that is going to be decisive. There is no way around the numbers, there is California, and there is Georgia.

This is the last two minutes of the Super Bowl, my friends.

John McCain likes to use the term “my friends”. I love John McCain. But I want to make history for the conservative wing of my Party. The way to make history in this case, at this moment, is to vote for Mitt Romney. As pompous as it sounds, this is not a partisan appeal. It is a fact. Conservatives can now have a chance, in California, to make history – I know those who have already decided for Romney will be there tomorrow. For those who are not voting for McCain but considering someone other than Romney, I want you to consider that you can actually be a part of something historical. You can do this by voting for Mitt Romney in California.

The Democrats, the liberals, and their friends in the media, are trying to work McCain’s head right now. The way politics works, well everyone who should know, knows that it is a very malicious mêlée and there are very high stakes involved. Right now, the Democrats, the liberals, and their friends in the media, want McCain to win in California. And while they want this outcome, they are also working and going to try to get to McCain’s head. What they want McCain to do is, they want to convince John McCain that the conservatives are his nemesis, and they want to, slowly, in their own way, convince McCain and feed a hatred in him against conservatives. That it was the conservatives who schemed a McCain loss to Bush, and today they are working with the “right wing talk shows” to destroy McCain.

You see, the left wants McCain to win in California. And then, they want to get to his head, and make him think, “you see, I can win without them, without the conservatives” …

But you see, in the General Election, McCain cannot win – he cannot win without the conservatives of the Republican Party. Not without their vote.

And so, what the left wants, is for McCain to win in California. And take the nomination. And then, they believe they can screw with his head. And make McCain do a terrible mistake. The mistake will be when McCain says something attacking the conservatives in a clear, emotional driven, message. That McCain will say or do this very stupid mistake.

In fact, they are counting on it.

And once McCain does that, then he has lost the General election.

Because McCain cannot win the Presidency of the United States without Republicans, without the conservatives.

And that is why I want you to vote for Mitt Romney.

I want you to stop this agenda of the left wing.

I want you to make history. I am no one. But I can see what they are trying to do. I want you to think about it.

Mitt Romney is not Ronald Reagan. But I want you to understand. He is not Arnold, either. You can have the insight to see.

Everyone, for a long time, has been of the mind set that they need to find someone to give a big ovation to. But then, over time, we start to feel that there is no one worthwhile for a standing ovation. I mean, it can feel pretty good, to stand up and give someone a big ovation. For some, it might even make them feel free. But that is not freedom. You see Democrats, and they really give Obama these big ovations – you even see the same in the Hillary Clinton supporters. But think about it. Sure, sometimes Republicans can’t be like Democrats. Nice claps, cheers – but no one to really give this big ol’ crazy ovation. I mean, in some ways, the Democratic Party is really cult. But, you see, you should not let these big ovations get you down. Because, no, you are not like them. We are not a cult. Not like them. A Coca Cola machine is not magic. It is a machine. It was made by humans, the human mind. The Democrats live in a magic mind set. To them, a big Coca Cola machine comes before them, and they think it’s magic. But, you understand, there is a machine there, and it is us who can make the machine.

No politician is going to be someone who you might stand and, literally, foolishly, throw all of your ovations to. But you can make history. It isn’t magic. But if you use consideration, and thought, and look at the two minute warning in a very real way, you actually can make a difference just so long as you are in the game. Don’t drop out of the game. The football is about to be handed to you, California.

Ok, if you want to compare a good family man to a rapist, go right on ahead, be my guest, keep deluding yourself. I don’t know if it is a good idea to be smearing a good man for who knows what reason. If you want to get after someone, why don’t you try getting after someone who deserves it instead of wasting all your efforts on trying to get one of the good guys?

Same here. As California goes so goes the nation. A win there for Romney would be huge.

>>>Huck will not drop out. He’ll stay around to continue his efforts to derail Romney - Right to the Convention if necessary. A spiteful, disingenuous man masquerading as a man of Faith.<<<

You got that right. Huckabee is an unabashed liar.

Talk is cheap. His rhetoric doesn’t match his record. And you know damn well that it doesn’t. You wouldn’t put blind faith into a Democrat, so why are you putting it into a liberal RINO who did more to aide the Democrat cause in his state than any Democrat ?

Romney isn’t perfect but he has lots of credibility. He turned around troubled businesses and started new ones. Romney is responsible for many new jobs. He is a builder.

McCain got his job from his family. They gave him a large amount of money to start out in politics. McCain worked for his father in law in some public relations make work job at the father in law’s bottling plant. He has business and political connections which put him in congress. Connections go a long way in politics - you know that old saying “It’s not what you know it’s who you know.” I think that is the secret of McCain’s success.

Romney, on the other hand is a self made man in the tough world of business where you fall flat on your face if you do not know what you are doing.

I don’t care what Fred thinks. Who ever decided that he was judge and jury or standard bearer of all decency? As far as I am concerned, Mitt is more qualified just based on how he has led his personal life.

Everybody else’s fault but Romney’s. Excuses, excuses, excuses. You people make me sick. You want this party led by a lying liberal Clinton clone.

There aren't any conservatives left, I think we all agree on that. In this post, it sounds like you would prefer that everyone just toss their vote to a protest candidate and let the chips fall where they may.

Is your preference 1) that McCain get the nomination? or 2) that Huckabee get the nomination or 3) you don't care who gets the nomination -- you would prefer that the GOP lose 2008 to save the party?

I'm not trying to antagonize you--just trying to understand how you would like this to play out (from this miserable point forward).

I’d like to hear what you have to enlighten us about regarding the insane, angry, conservative con man called John McCain.

Not me!! I am for Romney!!

You misunderstood my post, my friend. I think McCain is a conservative con man....and I don't want him to EVER be the Republican standard bearer.

I'm begging everyone to vote for Romney tomorrow. Give all us who follow behind "Super Tuesday" the chance to vote Romney in and McCain out!

You’re supporting a liberal. You’re a fool, and you’re no Conservative. Go do some research on the man and see his cut-’n-run record he left behind. You want THAT as President ? We won’t have a GOP left in 4 years. Exactly what he left in Massachusetts, a dead party. And that state once used to have a gargantuan GOP majority. That’s what liberal RINO leadership does. It kills the GOP dead.

Yep... certainly not what I had expected!

Good family men are pathological liars ? Support cheap abortions, gay marriage, liberal murderer-releasing judges ? You have a bizarre definition of “family man.” I guess if Tony Soprano can be one... right ?

As much as you despise Romney, I despise McCain. So I'll be voting Romney. Nothing you say, not a single one of your obnoxious insults will change my mind.

Romney is going to cut corporate tax rates which are higher now than in Old Europe and in communist China. That will help us become more competitive economically.

Yeah, Kennedyland is such a reliable benchmark. (/sarc)

Snap out of it. McCain will not win the general election against either Obama, Clinton, or both.

You want a Republican Party after Nov. 2008? Then choose Mitt NOW!

You’re right. We shouldn’t let this party get away with shoving liberals down our throats. And it is precisely because I don’t want our party to be hurt that I will do everything I can to keep McCain out of the White House. You ask how many more election cycles this party will last going forward. So lets be practical. Everybody else is out. Paul is out for all intents and purposes. Huckabee can’t last and is liberal. Fred, Duncan, Rudy and Tom are out. The actual choices now are Romney and McCain.

You hate Romney. I can deal with that. What I cannot deal with is McCain. So you can tell us all about violating our consciences and so on, but beyond a certain point (which has long since passed), you’re starting to seem like a McCain supporter. I dare say that a lot of people who were going to vote Romney with 0 enthusiasm will now do it with a load of enthusiasm precisely because of your hate and vitriol.

Thank you for energizing the Free Republic base.

Carry on.
