What they did was a ploy; Fat Boy won’t be running again in, four years or whatever (he’s going to retire, and puke his memoirs), and Aid and Comfort to The Enemy is facing at least one threat to his own reelection, probably several. It also acts as an alibi for themselves and their Party when Obama goes down to defeat, which he will. The so-called Democratic Party has been engineered to put the final decision into the hands of wheeler-dealers, not least because there’s little real unity in such a clearing house of different factions, and a real problem with its being the minority party.
