I've been on FR for over ten years and to my best recollection, this is only the second vanity thread I've ever posted.
Like most here, I've been angry. Frustrated. Disgusted. Fed up to my eyeballs. Pick your favorite adjective to describe the lack of a good, solid conservative candidate in this election cycle. What I need now is not an outlet to vent my spleen, but ideas to help make something positive happen.
I listened to Rush during the 1PM hour and he made a point that was pure common sense -- we need to concentrate on making sure CONSERVATIVES get elected to the house and senate, even if it's only to throw a firewall between the damage liberals (including McCain) will inflict on this country. Rush is right. Rather than waste even more energy on ranting about how we've been betrayed, I'm going to put it to constructive purposes.
I live in Michigan's 6th Congressional District, home of freshman Tim Walberg (R), a good conservative who ousted RINO and whiner extrordinaire Joe Schwarz. He's been rock solid in supporting and pushing for conservative issues and I plan to volunteer for his re-election campaign. His expected opponent will be Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek), a typical tax-and-spender who voted for a midnight budget deal that not only raised income taxes on our already suffering citizens, but passed an insane 6% sales tax on some businesses that would've cost more for those businesses to implement than it would bring in tax dollars, or "investments" as our liberal governatrix now calls them. The last thing I want to do is inflict Schauer and his policies on the rest of the nation!
I'm going to vote in November, even if I leave the presidential box blank. In the meantime I'm getting in touch with Walberg's campaign to ask if they need help. It's small but it's productive, and I hope others decide to find their own niche. For me, the time for grousing is over.
So, Freepers, what contributions will you make? Suggestions can inspire, especially those looking for a positive direction rather than another lecture as to why we must support McCain.
Thanks for listening.
Yes, it is time to focus on retaking the Congress (thank you 2006 Repubs) and not on beating on McCain. We know what McCain is, what he will do as President, and like it or not, we are stuck with it. The alternative is just to hideous to even think about.
Focus on Congress — and vote McCain.
I’ll probably write in Duncan Hunter in the presidential slot but I voted for Walberg and will do it again.
A couple of years into his presidency and a heart attack and then we have a real conservative president who already has all the local Mohammedans mad at her. Ha! It would bug the feminists to no end that the first woman prez is more conservative than any of the major candidates in the Republican field of ‘08.
We’re going to need conservatives in the legislature, to offset the Democrat in the White House.
Thanks for the post. I agree. What do adults do when something goes wrong? They work, and keep working, to fix it.
What’s better at this point? A Hillary presidency with a liberal congress, a McCain presidency with a liberal congress, or a McCain presidency with a conservative congress? “None of the above” isn’t an option, so choose.
I agree that the house and senate races have become much more important now.
I agree...I heard Rush say that to and he is right.
Let’s focus our efforts on taking back the House and Senate, something we can help to do....
Got to get a list to distribute among FReepers of House and Senate seats currently controlled by Dems which are up for re-election where we have conservatives on the ballot that we can support. We also need to support Sessions, Cochran, Inhofe, and Cornyn in the Senate. The libs are going to go after these seats HARD just like they took out Santorum and George Allen.
This isn’t a bash/defend McCain thread. There are plenty of those. I posted this in order to help those who are conservatives first, republicans SECOND, find a place where they can make an active contribution towards getting our fellows elected.
A conservative-leaning congress could go a long way in acting as a counterweight for the liberal garbage we’re about to see. We need them in office, and they need our help!
Concentrate on voting for genuine conservatives for Congress, get back the House and Senate.
In short, vote for gridlock in ‘08 to minimize the damage of the next 4 years.
I appreciate your points, but we fought for Republicans to get the Senate and House only to have them increase spending more than the democrats. Throw in a few homosexual and bribery scandals, heck it was worse.
No thanks. I’m done if McCain is our nominee.
I will support conservative candidates from the lowest office to the highest one on a local, county and state ticket.
I’ll just follow your lead and post vanities on FR. (Just kidding.)
Seriesly, I’m with you — voting for conservatives down the line, write-in for Prez.

Heres my response for conservatives (a fellow FReeper passed this one along to Rush yesterday)
What are the best conservatives groups to join?
It’s time to roll up the sleeves folks.
And probably open the wallets too.
We took our eyes of the ball and got complacent.
But hey, that means we can fix it!
With all the hoopla about the presidential campaigns, not much has been said about who is running for anything else. Good idea.
McCain’s ticket MAY carry seven states.
