I've been on FR for over ten years and to my best recollection, this is only the second vanity thread I've ever posted.
Like most here, I've been angry. Frustrated. Disgusted. Fed up to my eyeballs. Pick your favorite adjective to describe the lack of a good, solid conservative candidate in this election cycle. What I need now is not an outlet to vent my spleen, but ideas to help make something positive happen.
I listened to Rush during the 1PM hour and he made a point that was pure common sense -- we need to concentrate on making sure CONSERVATIVES get elected to the house and senate, even if it's only to throw a firewall between the damage liberals (including McCain) will inflict on this country. Rush is right. Rather than waste even more energy on ranting about how we've been betrayed, I'm going to put it to constructive purposes.
I live in Michigan's 6th Congressional District, home of freshman Tim Walberg (R), a good conservative who ousted RINO and whiner extrordinaire Joe Schwarz. He's been rock solid in supporting and pushing for conservative issues and I plan to volunteer for his re-election campaign. His expected opponent will be Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek), a typical tax-and-spender who voted for a midnight budget deal that not only raised income taxes on our already suffering citizens, but passed an insane 6% sales tax on some businesses that would've cost more for those businesses to implement than it would bring in tax dollars, or "investments" as our liberal governatrix now calls them. The last thing I want to do is inflict Schauer and his policies on the rest of the nation!
I'm going to vote in November, even if I leave the presidential box blank. In the meantime I'm getting in touch with Walberg's campaign to ask if they need help. It's small but it's productive, and I hope others decide to find their own niche. For me, the time for grousing is over.
So, Freepers, what contributions will you make? Suggestions can inspire, especially those looking for a positive direction rather than another lecture as to why we must support McCain.
Thanks for listening.
Not trying to keep the traitors out of the White House — remember, they’re going to surrender to the terrorists — is irresponsible and insane.
It should be BOTH president/vp and Congress — every time.
Causing a Dem to be elected president is reprehensible to me.
Getting involved is not difficult. At this level, about all you need to do is show up and you're likely to get drafted.
Hehehe, he makes it too easy. Talk about a sore loser!
With some luck and energy, we might even be able to deny Hillarama the majority, and leave them stuck with a plurality.
We could call it the Vengeance Vote--might help draw conservatives to the polls to vote for real republican candidates.
And how about Haywood in Colorado? I believe he was ousted through Rove amnesty shenanigans.
No, I won't. And there needs to be an option for conservatives that will attract them to the polls so real republicans can be supported.
It only reinforces it if we lay back after the election and do nothing about the house and senate. If we put strong conservatives there to block any shenanigans then the message will be sent.
In 1994 we used the “adopt a conservative” plan. If your congress critter was a liberal, then focus on a new conservative face in another state. If some of the current conservatives are doing well, focus on those who need the help more.
In 1994 I was in San Jose CA(a lost cause for conservatives if there ever was one) and adopted 5 out of CA conservatives from various states, including the de-folyeate effort. 4 of my 5 won, including taking down the speaker.
gun control is your friend, it sorts the pile with one question.
Use the current lame congressional leadership as the demons, there are plenty of good attack themes which could produce results. High taxes and energy are going to be big issues, but gun control is ever lurking when Dims get into power.
Just don’t give money to the RNC and hope for the best. Give it direct to the candidate of your choice, or even better a 527 which is helping a candidate you support. Choose carefully.
FR is the perfect organizing place for this type of effort ...
Well said.
I’m telling the RNC ‘not this year’. I’m doing the same with the other party organizations. Then, I’m going out and finding conservative candidates wherever they are in the country and sending my contributions to them. In November, I’ll hold my nose and vote for the party’s nominee, but if enough of us take this approach we send an important message. Namely, “it’s easier to get the money to run your campaign if you support conservative issues.”
Rush is right, regardless of who gets the Oval office, if the Democrats gain enough seats to have a fillibuster proof house of Representatives we are in big big trouble. Even if the president was Romney, Thompson, Huckabee, Tancredo, pick your favorite, any of them would have a tough time having a successful 4-years if we give up many more seats to Dems. Many of us also have some important State races, and as Rush said they are our farm club for future National openings.
And the one in Florida that belonged to Foley.
Should be two easy kills ...
We need districts and names ...
There’s Rick Lansom in Texas (D) that should be easy pickins—
It’s never too early to start recruiting conservative candidates. The Florida district had a good candidate, he just had no money or time once Foley quit.
totally agree with you and of course Rush! but what about the Supreme Court Judge issue?? do we want a Hitlery or Obomination picking them versus a [mc]Cain??
I know what I’ll do in November, the question is do I even bother going to the caucus tomorrow? It has already been decided, so what’s the point of going and casting a vote. And if I do go, being Fred Thompson was my original choice do I vote for him now that Romney is out? Oh what to do what to do? Oh well maybe I’ll go, they always have free cookies and coffee and maybe the Ron Paul people will provide some entertainment.
I heard the same thing from Rush nut if you know anything about politics what he is saying is not what history shows...congressional districts and senate seats are greatly affected by the Presidential race...coatails are from the top down as Reagan would say. If the democrates continue to come out the way they are now you will see a 60plus Democratic Senate....the problems in the house are very difficult as many more republicans than democrats are leaving...money is real tight...Clinton raised more than all the republicans combined...when you add what Obama is bringing to the table thats twice as much as George Bush raised. Rush promotes Rush...everything revolves around him. Cheney who I admire wanted Romney over McCain and is angry about McCains attack on Rumsfeld...thats why the VP was on Rushs show last week unanounced and Mary Matlin who works for the VP was carrying Rushes message on Russerts show Sunday.....this will all change as the VP will get behind McCain in a month or so. Why you people continue to fall for all this amazes me....Rush is a trickster his conservative creditials are lacking and don’t run deep at all. Look at the way the man lives his life not what he tells you he believes.
“but what about the Supreme Court Judge issue”
I’m with ya. And don’t leave out the 200+ Federal Judges the next President will choose. As much as I despise McCain, I would prefer to leave that task up to him rather than Hillary or Obama.
