Romney predicts conservatives will stop McCain

(CNN) — Mitt Romney predicted Sunday his party's conservative base will rally behind him on Super Tuesday in order to prevent John McCain from winning the Republican nomination.

"What I have to do is continue to see what's been happening the last few days, specifically that is conservatives across the country are saying, 'whoa, we have to get behind Mitt Romney,'" he said on CNN's Late Edition.

"You've got people like Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham and the list goes on and on and on — Hugh Hewitt, Lars Larson — conservative voices, both from radio and from publications, are saying, 'you know what, we've got to get behind Mitt Romney,'" he continued. "We really can't afford John McCain as the nominee of our party."

“Well, at least he was right about one thing. But true to form, he’s already flipped on this one too.”

There must be something in the water in MA. Kerry, Romney...flip-flop, flip-flop...

Well, that was logical. Say “No to McCain” and then give him your endorsement and all your delegates...uh, go figure.

My vote is Mitt Romney for President — of the “Rotary” Club. Spinning in circles is a sure way to get a reaction, when one’s finger is in the wind.

Meanwhile, despite the Romney-backer-backed (Club for Growth) smear campaign and the Paul-paid Arkansan muck-tossing, there is a conservative to vote for. Happens to be the most winning leader of them all, too. Funny how that can work.

From the way the numbers have looked in the primary races vs the democrats, I think we’re going to have to batten down and fight the democrats head on for the next 4 years.

Good point. FReepers would not stand for Reagan if he were just starting out now. Abortion, amnesty... We need to use the Good L-rd’s power of forgiveness on a few of the previous moves of candidates, in order to develop anyone who’d fit the Reagan shoe size.

And Owen raised the point on another thread that as unhappy as we are with our nominee, it is partly our fault for being utopian conservatives. Only partly, though. The MSM totally stacks the deck for us, and that still makes me sick.

Well, at least he was right about one thing. But true to form, he's already flipped on this one too.

A very foolish remark. He recognize that now there is no stopping the voters from voting McCain as the nominee. Realizing that 1/2 a conservative is better now than what is left is the reason. You seem to be still stuck with the Romney haters.

Fred never endorsed McCain. Look at what he said: “for the good of the party, we have to rally behind him” (paraphrase).

It was damning with faint praise.

Whatsamatter Jim? Upset that Romney has made your boy Huck look like a peevish brat for not dropping out and endorsing McCain too?

Romney WAS right when he made those comments. If conservatives had united behind Romney he would have knocked McCain out. But nooooo, once again we had to make the perfect the enemy of the good. So we end up with the bad!

Yeah, McCain-Romney. Now there’s a ticket we can all get behind.

Let’s see...

We already have McCain working closely with Kennedy et al:

McCain-Feingold
McCain-Kennedy
McCain-Lieberman

Giving us:

The Incumbency Protection Act
Amnesty
Global Warming
The Gang of 14

Now we can add Romney working closely with Kennedy et al:

Giving us:

RomneyCare
Planned Parenthood health commission
$50 govt subsidized and funded abortions
Gay marriage
Gays in military

Can’t wait to campaign for the NEW Republican platform.

I am thrilled.

No, not twins. I’m using an illustration for discussion purposes. Elevate your thinking.
