Statement by the founder of Free Republic
Free Republic ^ | March 2004 | Jim Robinson

Statement by the founder of Free Republic:

In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule.

Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security. We support our military, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief and we oppose turning control of our government back over to the liberals and socialists who favor appeasement, weakness, and subserviency. We do not believe in surrendering to the terrorists as France, Germany, Russia and Spain have done and as Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton and the Democrats, et al, are proposing.

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.

Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.

May God bless and protect our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and may God continue to bless America.

Jim Robinson

The nearest I can figure is that it's a "lesser of evils" dynamic. If you're going to live in this country, and you have a choice of rabid Socialists running the give-rnment or a lunatic, they'd choose the lunatic. At least the lunatic would have a VP who would be more capable of finishing out the term after the lunatic is hauled away to either the asylum or prison.

"We are conservative activists..." Indeed we are. RINOs, liberals and moderates need not apply. You're either a true conservative or you're not.

BTTT!!!!

It isn’t only liberal trolls that get booted. I was once booted for sharing a conservative view some of our founding fathers might have shared with respect to affirmative action. On a thread extolling the virtues of diversity as it manifests itself at an all black college I momentarily waxed sarcastic and was booted in minutes. Apparently in our free exchange of Ideas all races are equal, but one race is more equal than the rest. I’ve at one time or another seen many slurs, foul language, demeaning talk, perversion, religious intolerance, and insults cast about on this board but the only word you seemingly can’t say here begins with an ‘N’. I guess I find it funny that Whites, Hispanic people, Asians and others are deemed to be able to take the slurs that come with the territory but one race of people are deemed to be needing protection. To my mind that comes across as condescending to the poor group who has been deemed too feeble minded to not take take their slurs in stride. A part of my heritage is Polish and I don’t get upset if someone tells a Pollack joke. My family even tells them and Bohemian jokes too which is another part of our heritage. It seems as if we here treat Blacks as if the whole race must suffer from some kind of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder over what happened to some Black’s ancestors at the hands of some White’s ancestors here in America. Well I think that also is a subtle form of Racism. And honestly my Mennonite ancestors didn’t come to America until after Slavery was abolished and moved to what had always been a free state. My English side of the family all fought and died on the side of the Union in the Civil War. If I now owe Blacks some courtesy above and beyond what I would give to any other group or expect from them I’m mystified as to where this debt came from. And if you want to play the victim card, I say get the Catholics who slaughtered my Mennonite and Anabaptist ancestors all across Europe to come kiss my butt for a change. My ancestors suffered far worse than the ancestors of most Blacks and I defy you to show me the slaughter of Blacks in America that would approach the wholesale slaughter and torture of my ancestors at the hands of the Catholics in Europe. If slurs and epithets against Blacks are somehow worse than the slurs and epithets against other people I guess I need an explanation, because I grew up believing God created us all equal and I’d be willing to give up my life fighting those opposed to that precept if need be. I don’t think you can ask for a stronger commitment to human equality than to be willing to die for the equality of others as some of my ancestors did in the Civil War. Nor do I think it is responsible for people of any race to let members of another race stew over injustices of the past. History has shown that this stoking of past injustices leads to wars and bloodshed in the future. If I can forgive the Catholics and live grudge free I’m better for it, and if Blacks can give up their latent demands for social reparation they will be better for it also. An early test of when you’re starting to be over something is when you come to the point where you can joke about it with others. It is too bad that We won’t let blacks get to this point, but instead enable their resentment to continue undimmed by keeping them the perpetual victims who deserve pity and not a ribbing from a friend.

No, I picked myself up, dusted myself off, logged on with a different e-mail address and came back for more.

By the way, There is no name or word or phrase in any language you can say that will make me think any less of myself or my heritage. Elanor Roosevelt was right. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." It is too bad that we go around seconding the consent of some to their feelings of inferiority while expecting everyone else to be above that kind of self disrespect and inferiority.

What did Michelle Barrack have to say about this statement?

Lack of paragraphs probably got you booted.

It also could have been my arbitrary sprinkling of punctuation marks or that I used more than my alloted spell checker RAM. I went to college in East Texas and they messed my language skills up.

I love FR content; hate the interface. Nothing personal, but does anyone know if there are any plans to update it? There are some very user-friendly forum sites on the Internet that put FR's interface to total shame. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm sure there will be loyal followers and maybe even sentimental attachment, but by actual objective comparison I can't see anyone arguing the FR interface superior to any of the other large forum sites out there. It's rather painful, I think, and is more than skin deep. I navigate a lot of forums, and as I said, content aside, I really cringe when I come to FR after visting other forums.

It seems like a worthy concern for the flagship conservative forum. I have attempted to bring new people here and their first comment is, invariably, "Yuck, what is up with this site?"

Another example of Conservatives being left in the dust (I hope not)...

The FR site loads quickly. Good for phone modems. Easy for me to read an article and responses.

I don’t see the need for a change.

Give an example (URL) of a very user-friendly forum site; I’ll visit it at your recommendation.
