Smokers in Beijing
China has an estimated 350 million smokers

Health officials in the Chinese city of Chongqing are urging people to report their family members to the authorities if they violate a smoking ban.

The initiative is part of a campaign in two districts of the city to tackle the effects of passive smoking.

Those who are accused of smoking will have their names posted on a warning list on community notice boards.

As well as the campaign within families, a workplace smoking ban is also being tried in public buildings.

A hospital boss whose organisation is taking part in the trial said he would cut the bonuses of any team where members were found to have smoked.

Cigarettes are hugely popular in China, which is estimated to have a total of 350 million smokers.

The World Health Organization has estimated that 3,000 people die in China each day from the effects of smoking.

Was the ban started by a guy named Hu Qa-Bi?

Oh, OK. Wow, that’s pretty sick LOL If’n you vouch for him, I reckon he’s all right. I get overly defensive due to all the ‘convenient conservative’ whackjobs on FR. The ones that say “I’m a conservative, EXCEPT where _____ (fill in the blank) is concerned.” If sarcasm comes into the picture, it becomes more difficult to tell these days. ;^D

Some on the board (myself included) feel the War On Drugs was what slowly and eventually led to the War On Smokers.

Absolutely.

I haven’t smoked pot since the first year of the Bush 41 administration. The crap never agreed with me, just made me paranoid.

But it’s the same idea.

“Show me how much oppression the people are willing to take and I will show you how much will be heeped upon them.”

Like me and elk talked about yesterday, left wing liberals are miserable. They hate America and want to change the greatest country in the history of the planet. Whenever they succeed, like when a smoker ban is successful it just makes me and you and everyone else miserable.

Let them wallow in their own filth and misery. I’m just going to sit on the computer with you and laugh at them.

I’m going to heed the words of that great poet and philosopher William Joel.

From what I’ve heard about China, cigarette smoke is cleaner than the surrounding air.

Libs are like schoolyard bullies. Ouch is right.

That’s what the bully said when we punched him in the mouth when we were kids.

No we’re not. We’re closer than people think. I quit smoking but it was my idea....not my governments.

I quit smoking becuase of the policy in U.S. against smoking. There was no longer anywhere it was legal to smoke. The government most certainly made this decision for you. Who are you trying to kid.
