Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, said Sunday that the leader for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, would be "absolutely" qualified to be president, should the voters elect him. But, he said, "I believe that my talent and my background and my experience, which has led to my judgment, ... qualifies me more."
In his first Sunday talk show appearance since locking up the GOP nomination last month, McCain criticized Obama and others for making too much of his comment that the United States could remain in Iraq for 100 years, or a period similar to the length of the U.S. presence in Germany and South Korea.
"Senator Obama and anyone who reads that [comment] knows that I didn't think we were in a 100-year war," he said on "Fox News Sunday."
Days after going to Memphis to mark the 40th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, McCain repeated that he "was wrong" to vote in 1983 against establishing a federal holiday to honor King. He added, as he did Friday, that he thought better of his mistake in time to back such a holiday in his home state of Arizona.
McCain also confirmed that he would meet next week with Secret Service officials next week and expects to have agents protecting him "shortly thereafter." McCain previously had refused such protection.

Same here. I never vote for him for senator either, but the Dems here in AZ all love him.
Bravo, SAJ!
I choose not to vote for Prez or to write in a non-candidate. Let’s fergit about that spot and concentrate on getting Pelosi out of the Speaker’s chair!! A GOP/conservative landslide in Nov. taking back the House! That’s our only hope, no matter which scumbag is elected...
The McCain pig won’t sit still long enough for its supports to get the lipstick on it. heh

You got it. McCain would be called a racist if he had attacked Obama in any way.

Textbook answer. Well said: avoiding the negative sell, McCain instead sells his own positives, proving he is a classier act than his opponents.
Salesmanship 101.
> HRC and BHO are both liars, JM is is proving himself to be as dumb as a post.
Americans have only themselves to blame if none of these candidates are suitable to run the country during a time of war.
And if Conservatives wanted a conservative GOP candidate they would have done a more competent job, surely, during the nomination phase. What a clown-show that was!
So now the choice is between HRC/BHO and JM. The latter unpalatable for some Conservatives, the former unthinkable.
Tho’ some Conservatives think it is “only four years” until 2012 I would point out that four years is a very long time, particularly during a time of war. The US was only at war for four years during WW-II, for example — a very long time. And alot of damage can be done in four years.
I do not intend to tell Americans how to vote — I am a foreigner and it is really not my concern: at least not directly. As a citizen of the world I cannot help but be concerned because of the long shadow America casts over the free world: when you guys sniff, we all catch ‘flu.
That said I do hope conservatives have the good sense to swallow hard and ensure that HRC/BHO never set foot in the Oval Office — four years with them running the US would be tragic during a time of war. For some it will be far less than ideal for JM to be there as the alternative: well, should have thought of that during the GOP nominations.
America is at war — as is most of the rest of the free world — and these are ugly times. A perfect conservative White House is not going to happen this time around. But surely a RINO is better than flat-out Socialists?
(Trust me — it is. We have lived with a flat-out Socialist nanny-state government in NZ for 9 years and I assure you that you don’t want that.)
I hope there aren't two of those!
When I am at my wits end with "W," I think "Gore and Kerry" to remind me how much worse it could be.
Finally someone said this. Anybody born in the US and at least 35 years old is qualified. There is nothing mentioned abour foriegn affairs and such. These are the only qualifications to be CIC.
If McCain thinks Obama is qualified to be President, then it is pretty obvious that McCain doesn’t understand the job description himself.
