Font size has been a royal pain in the butt. Are you using Internet Explorer 5 by chance?

Thanks so much for the link. I’m going look into this.

I got a larger screen recently and at night it’s so bright that I feel like I’m under the spotlight on American Idol.

I’m using Internet Explorer...as for the version, I have no idea. Is there a way to find out?

In your web browser, go to the “Help” menu and click “About Internet Explorer”. Or something very similar to that depending on what version you are using. ;-)

I use an IE-based browser called Fastbrowser. I have used it for years. Yesterday, I dumped IE 7 and went back to IE 6, which I had used for several years.

I also use Firefox for other things, but use Fastbrowser for FR, because it is tabbed and has built-in MS Agent reading (great for long articles).

Me, too, Tom...the “beta” site has huge fonts that leap out at me. When I tried to shrink them, they became too small.

Why would you want a different background color?

The last 2 weeks, I have modified the browser, IE Options and Windows desktop fonts 6-8 times, each, trying to get the fonts as close to the old format (i.e., readable) as I could.

Then, something would change and the fonts would all be out-of-whack — either too huge to read or too tiny to read.

I’d go through the setting again, trying to get them readable. Yesterday morning was the latest adjustment.

It is getting frustrating — to the point of being ridiculous to have to reset and tweak my whole computer font system every day just to read one website.

Staring at the white background is like staring at a light bulb. It hurts.

Gonna rework the font system on beta.

What I did in the recent updates is switch from font tags to using style sheets. But due to poor browser support and poor mapping from font tag to style sheet settings, it's been a nightmare. So I'm going to adapt an approach I've seen on many major sites: using fixed size fonts with an option to scale them up or down. I really hate that, because in an ideal world the browser's text size menu should select the font size, but reality is setting in: current state of the art is broken.

Beta is being updated.

I much like the way the comments I post are a different color from comments posted to me.

I’ll just mention that the “Browse by Forum” block should have the “window=_blank” option disabled even if the user sets his option to new window in My Preferences.

As of now if in My Preferences a user selects Windows - Blank, when you click on the “Browse by Forum” Everything link to update the page, or click to switch sub-forum, it opens in a new window, something that was not the case for many years here on FR. And it’s quite a bit annoying.

Everything else is looking really good, and I’m just amazed (and a bit scared) FR will have a full search engine soon.

One more thing, could you make sure to save the old FR CSS files, so people like TomGuy can revert back to it using a css extension on firefox?

I’ll volunteer to maintain the CSS file, but I’ll need a copy from prior to the changes as a starting point.
