Obama Needs a History Lesson (Excellent read!)
realclearpolitics.com ^ | May 09, 2008 | Jack Kelly

Posted on 05/09/2008 6:23:24 AM PDT by kellynla

In his victory speech after the North Carolina primary, Sen. Barack Obama said something that is all the more remarkable for how little it has been remarked upon.

In defending his stated intent to meet with America's enemies without preconditions, Sen. Obama said: "I trust the American people to understand that it is not weakness, but wisdom to talk not just to our friends, but to our enemies, like Roosevelt did, and Kennedy did, and Truman did."

That he made this statement, and that it passed without comment by the journalists covering his speech indicates either breathtaking ignorance of history on the part of both, or deceit.

I assume the Roosevelt to whom Sen. Obama referred is Franklin D. Roosevelt. Our enemies in World War II were Nazi Germany, headed by Adolf Hitler; fascist Italy, headed by Benito Mussolini, and militarist Japan, headed by Hideki Tojo. FDR talked directly with none of them before the outbreak of hostilities, and his policy once war began was unconditional surrender.

FDR died before victory was achieved, and was succeeded by Harry Truman. Truman did not modify the policy of unconditional surrender. He ended that war not with negotiation, but with the atomic bomb.

Harry Truman also was president when North Korea invaded South Korea in June, 1950. President Truman's response was not to call up North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung for a chat. It was to send troops.

One more quote Obama would profit from:

“Assosciate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; it is better to be alone than in bad company.”

From the (personal) history of Obama, how could anyone expect anything else from Obama ?

Tyrants sometimes indicate, in arrogance, exactly what they’re going to do with power - knowing that their cult of admirers will only lap it up.

Obama has more than a little of the arrogance of a budding tyrant.

The greatest tendency of humankind is - to forget. To forget its blessings and its accomplishments.

Sir Winston’s observations remain very well made.

As Sir Winston Churchill said:

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

This quote is ironic when you realize that in England now, NO MENTION of Winston Churchill will be in the text books! (as of last summer) Were it not for Churchill, they would all have grown up speaking German...

I don't know how much protest there was in England itself, but there was a hue and cry from us on this side of the pond - I was in contact with Churchill's grandson - a member of Parliament - who emailed me with this included; "

It is always a source of immense satisfaction that so many of your fellow countrymen cherish his memory and I can assure you that we, his family, are deeply grateful."

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

Putin warns Kosovo will 'come back to knock' the West, as NATO envoy lashes out
MOSCOW: President Vladimir Putin on Friday issued a sharp warning to the West about the consequences of recognizing Kosovo's independence, saying the decision would "come back to knock them on the head."

The comments, made during an informal meeting of leaders from ex-Soviet republics, were the strongest by the Russian leader since Sunday when Kosovo made its declaration of independence from Serbia.

They followed statements made earlier Friday by Russia's envoy to NATO, who warned the alliance against overstepping its mandate in Kosovo and said Moscow might be forced to use "brute military force" to maintain respect on the world scene.

Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
Reuters: Aug 17, 2007

CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.

"Today's exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples," Putin said.

Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia's Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.

The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.

Russia's growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

U.S. Navy Intercepts Russian Bombers Flying Near Ships

WASHINGTON (Associated Press) U.S. fighter planes intercepted two Russian bombers flying unusually close to an American aircraft carrier in the western Pacific during the weekend, The Associated Press has learned.

"The steps that have been taken (by Russia) and the rhetoric that has been used concerning the threat of force have increased tensions and have undermined Georgia's territorial integrity," NATO spokesman James Appathurai said. "The allies are unanimous in supporting, endorsing Georgia's territorial integrity and will not recognise or support steps that undermine that sovereignty," he said. NATO announced at a summit early this month that Georgia would one day become a member of the 26-nation military alliance, in the face of fierce Russian opposition. Russia objects to NATO moving closer to its borders and is deeply concerned that the breakaway regions could be destabilised by Tbilisi's rapprochement with Moscow's old Cold War-era foe. Georgia claims that Russia has, over the last three months, strengthened its control over Abkhazia and established direct ties with the local authorities. In a tit-for-tat measure, Tbilisi vowed Wednesday to block Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organisation unless it drops plans for direct trade links with the two regions. The Russian peacekeeping announcement is only fuelling problems, said President Mikheil Saakashvili's new "special representative" and top Georgian diplomat, David Bakradze. "It's hard to believe that this is being done for the purposes of peacekeeping, it's rather the beginning of full-scale military aggression," he told AFP by telephone during a trip to Brussels. ......more

Obama Promises to Dismantle Our Armed Forces
by Robert Maginnis
Posted 04/10/2008 ET

(Mr. Maginnis is a retired Army lieutenant colonel, a national security and foreign affairs analyst for radio and television and a senior strategist with the U.S. Army)

YouTube has an undated 52-second clip of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barrack Obama outlining his plans for America’s national defense. Obama’s presentation demonstrates either total naivete about important national security programs or he is just pandering for votes among the extreme left.

Note: Although I sent Human Events the ORIGINAL youtube video several weeks ago (original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE ) and asked that they replace the copy they refer to (copy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl32Y7wDVDs ), they still have not yet done so. The original comes directly from the Obama camp itself and so is a lot more credible. In any case, Col Maginnis does an excellent in-depth must read analysis of Obama's proposed defense policies (see: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?print=yes&id=25942).-Eye On The Left

Exactly! And none of them are thankful!

"I was in contact with Churchill's grandson - a member of Parliament - who emailed me with this included; " It is always a source of immense satisfaction that so many of your fellow countrymen cherish his memory and I can assure you that we, his family, are deeply grateful."

I was born 15 years after his "finest hour" speech, but everytime I hear one of his speeches played on TV, I cheer! Churchill was the only European politician with the spine and balls to stand up and spit in Hitler's eye. If he hadn't done so, we all might be speaking German, as FDR at the time couldn't move the isolationist public and Congress to see the danger Hitler (and Tojo) were to the world. No, Churchill was not perfect. But I cherish and bless his memory.

What he needs more is an economics lesson.

Whether he needs one or not, he says what he believes will endear him to the sheeple. Certainly, when it comes to economics, too many Americans are naive and/or clueless.

Given the number of so-called conservatives helping us along the journey toward The Great Society, it's apparent that the entire political spectrum is shifting leftward. What used to be termed "moderate" now passes for "conservative"; yesterday's abject socialism is well on the way to becoming mainstream liberalism (see Obama).

The economics lesson will be a hard one not only for those who so desperately need it, but also for any caught in their wake.

Reality, Barry Obama is an old school Chicago politician and mouth piece of the far left Democrat Party. He is the left-winged messiah the socialist have been hoping for - those on the left hoping for change - that is.

"The guy is clueless, and on every economic issue he drops back to his default Marxist position." Just leave it at "he's clueless".

Obama is not clueless. He has a very specific anti-American agenda. It's no accident he embraced Jeremiah Wright's Black Liberation "church". Or that he's 'friendy' with the communist revolutionary/terrorist, Bill Ayers.

The Real Story Behind Rev. Wright's Controversial Black Liberation Theology Doctrine
Monday , May 5, 2008
FoxNews/Hannity's America
[special Friday night edition--original airdate May 2, 2008]

(some key excerpts)

REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."

SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO NETWORK: "Liberation theology in Nicaragua in the mid-1980's was a pro-Sandinista, pro-Marxist, anti-U.S., anti-Catholic Church movement. That's it. No ifs, ands, or buts. His church apparently supported, in the mid-'80s in Nicaragua, groups that supported the Sandinista dictatorships and that were opposed to the Contras whose reason for being was calling for elections. That's all I know. I was there.

. I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."

The Real Story Behind Rev. Wright's Controversial Black Liberation Theology Doctrine:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354158,00.html

Bill Ayers, TODAY, April 6, 2008, from his own red communist star-headed website, begging to debate communism vs capitalism with Sean Hannity! Yet Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and nearly every other conservative commentator FAILS to mention that these people were and still are revolutionary communists. Instead, they describe them as simply "domestic terrorists". Seems nearly everyone these days is afraid to use the 'C' word! Even in this extremely rare case where one of them actually admits it.

Bill Ayers, April 6, 2008:
"Imperialism. I’m against it, and if Sean Hannity and others were honest, this is the ground they would fight me on. Capitalism played its role historically and is exhausted as a force for progress: built on exploitation, theft, conquest, war, and racism, capitalism and imperialism must be defeated and a world revolution—a revolution against war and racism and materialism, a revolution based on human solidarity and love, cooperation and the common good —must win.

We begin by releasing our most hopeful dreams and our most radical imaginations: a better world is both possible and necessary.

Source: http://billayers.wordpress.com/2008/04/

Note: Ayers is very likely quoting Bob Avakian, chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, with the phrase 'both possible and necessary' in regards to a communist overthrow of the US government. See these Yahoo search results for "bob avakian" + "possible and necessary"--Eye On The Left

"In July 1969, Bernardine Dohrn [Ayers' co-terrorist wife], Eleanor Raskin, Dianne Donghi, Peter Clapp, David Millstone and Diana Oughton, all representing 'Weatherman', as Dohrn's faction was now called, traveled to Cuba and met with representatives of the North Vietnamese and Cuban governments."

From David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com/DiscoverTheNetworks.org:
"FBI files from 1976, recently made public under the Freedom of Information Act, confirm the connections between Weatherman, Havana, and Moscow. Weatherman leaders like Mark Rudd traveled illegally to Havana in 1968 to engage in terrorist training. There, camps set up by Soviet KGB Colonel Vadim Kotchergine were educating Westerners both in Marxist philosophy and urban warfare."

George Santayana. But, this is a huge column by Kelly. Dem liberals never seem to remember history because they never apologize for their huge domestic and foreign policy issues such as the Great Society, tax hikes, appeasement, and cut and runners against America’s enemies. I have been teaching history for 47 years and have never found a liberal in a class who even remembers their stands against America on almost every foreign policy endeavor or war that we have been in at least since the days of FDR. Even Truman, JFK and LBJ who tried war, were undermined by their own voters, Party and the media. They have been socialist pacifists for two generations now.

Two excellent quotes from our great first President, George Washington.

I do not believe Obama cares much for our founding fathers.

He says whatever he thinks will make people “feel” good - no real substance.

I am so perplexed that people don’t have a gut reaction to this guy that he is a fraud.

not to worry, after he becomes the ‘Rat candidate;
the 527’s will inundate the airwaves with so much of the Wright/Obama connection that Obama won’t know where to hide. Before this is over, Obama will wish he NEVER even considered running for POTUS! LOL

Most folks don’t pay any attention to elections until after Labor Day anyway...

I think you’re slightly confused.

The main enemy now is Islam, and on Kosovo, the Russians are, bizarrely, on the side of American interests, while NATO, the US State Department and Bush admininstration (and before them the Clinton administration), are on the side of our enemies.

Russia now has private property, a flat income tax, and religious education in its public schools. Doesn’t sound like they’re following Marx or Lenin’s playbook any more. Until America’s wrong-headed policies in the Balkans are reversed, we have made Russia our enemy, and lost the support of the people in the whole Orthodox Christian world, even if their governments are still pro-NATO (Greeks, Romanians, Russians and Bulgarians all joined the Serb army during the war in Kosovo).

The ChiComs (now actually fascist, rather than really communist) are still a danger, but that’s the next war, and if we stop being a**es toward Russia, one in which Russia could be turned into an ally, rather than an enemy.

Wright/Obama will wear thin by Nov. The 527’s better pick up on O’s connections with William Ayers and Dorothy Tillman (3rd Ward Assemblyman, that Obama endorsed), and hit the airwaves with those, as well.

“The question is, how many levelheaded voters will actually turn out for a complete RINO?”

Enough...LOL

Since Reagan, there have been enough Independents and Reagan Democrats to elect an “R” every time except for the two times Clinton ran.

What we need for the foreseeable future is for more conservatives to “step up to the plate” and run for local, state and federal offices.
We just need more conservative governors so that we have a better field to choose from for POTUS.
And we all need to encourage, support & campaign for those conservatives if we are ever going to turn this whole mess around!

“But we have an enormous number of Americans either not getting the news they need to know and/or too dumb to understand it even when they do get it.”

And I don't concern myself too much with them because they are also probably too lazy to get off the couch and go vote.LOL

Just look at the small percentage of registered American voters who actually vote much less those who are even registered to vote!!! It's embarrassing! They had a better turn out in Iraq!

Russia, allied with the U.S. against China?? And you think I'M confused??

From the Russian News and Information Agency:

I’m surprised that everyone has forgotten all those summit conferences where FDR and Hitler posed for photos shaking hands, and where Eleanor and Eva Braun kissed each other on the cheek.

Actually, there was a leader who followed Obama’s advice. His name was Neville Chamberlain, and his “peace in our time” initiatives only encouraged Adolf to be even more aggressive and brutal.

“Wright/Obama will wear thin by Nov.?”

not necessarily...the ads won’t start until Sept.
so a good 8 weeks of pounding and Obama’s head will be so far up his rear, he won’t know what hit him! LOL

“The 527’s better pick up on O’s connections with William Ayers and Dorothy Tillman (3rd Ward Assemblyman, that Obama endorsed), and hit the airwaves with those, as well.”

Oh, I’m sure they will not be forgotten. BIG SMILE

The 527’s will hand Obama his arse before this election is over!

... we have an enormous number of Americans either not getting the news they need to know and/or too dumb to understand it even when they do get it.

IMHO, it's a combo. The Imperial Federal Government School System has been dumbing down the American citizenry for at least 40 years, maybe longer. That's the first part.

The second is, as a result of the dumbing down, a change in people's mental priorities. They have a very hard time dealing with complicated stuff like socialism (which they unknowingly understand very well as a result of their education) vs. democracy (which, for the same reason, they know little about).

IMHO, consider that it is entirely possible Obama does not know that he speaks gibberish. And the people he's speaking to, in their dumbed down state, don't recognize it as such. They just know that it "sounds good."

Sad.

Obama sprays the roses and lollipops Kool-Aid. And the people, in their dumbed down state, suck it up, roll around in it, take showers in it and drink it like it's water.

IMHO, McCain's most difficult job will be trying to get these poor people to see the truth. I fear they will refuse simply because they can't understand it.

Pray for our poor country.

You're exactly right on every count. Since communism is 'too complicated' to talk about, hosts such as Sean Hannity, O'Reilly and Rush just ignore it (foolishly assuming they know beans about it themselves). This is dangerous because the movement is very much alive and well today. They still run the bogus "anti-war" movement, with large coaltions such as United for Peace and Justice (Communist Party USA), A.N.S.W.E.R. and Troops Out Now (Workers World Party) and World Can't Wait--Drive Out the Bush Regime (Revolutionary Communist Party). The groups still get a total pass from the head-up-their-butt media (FoxNews included) as to who and what the organizers of these groups are. Dumbed down is being too kind.

FDR chatted with Stalin at the Yalta Conference in 1945.

If that's his idea of a hero or role model, he really needs to starting studying History more carefully.

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." "

Actually, it was George Santayana who said that. Churchill did say this, however:

"When the situation was manageable it was neglected, and now that it is thoroughly out of hand we apply too late the remedies which then might have effected a cure. There is nothing new to the story. It is as old as the Sibylline Books. It falls into that long, dismal catalogue of the fruitlessness of experience and the confirmed unteachability of mankind. Want of foresight, unwillingness to act when action would be simple and effective, lack of clear thinking, confusion of counsel until the emergency comes, until self-preservation strikes its jarring gong — these are the features which constitute the endlless repetition of history." - Winston Churchill, speech, House of Commons, March 19, 1935.
Churchill - The Last Lion Roars.
