Pray for President Bush - Day 2817

Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
look at the earth beneath;
the heavens will vanish like smoke,
the earth will wear out like a garment
and its inhabitants die like flies.
But my salvation will last forever,
my righteousness will never fail.

Hear me, you who know what is right,
you people who have my law in your hearts:
Do not fear the reproach of men
or be terrified by their insults.
(Isaiah 51:6-7)

TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS: military; nation; pray; presidentbush
Holy Father, we confess before You that You are the only God, the Creator and the Lord of creation. This earth and all who are in it will pass away, but You remain, and Your word stands firm forever. Your glory and Your majesty will never be dimmed.

Lord, we stand before You on behalf of our president and brother in Christ, George W. Bush. As You have saved him, so put Your law in his heart. By Your grace and the strength of Your Spirit, may he never fear the reproach of men, or be terrified by their insults. May he seek the praise of God, and walk in the light of Your Son.

Father, we intercede also for our troops. We pray that You would give them peace, and open their eyes to the love You hold out to them in Jesus. We pray that Your eyes would be on them, to protect them from the enemy and give victory into their hand.

Lord, we thank You for our country, and pray that You would grant her Your peace. We pray for Your church, asking that Your Holy Spirit would be on us in grace and power.

We glorify You, Lord God, and praise You that Your righteousness never fails, and Your salvation endures forever. In You is all our hope, and we will not be disappointed. We offer these prayers to You in the Name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Speeding Ticket
There is none righteous, no, not one. —Romans 3:10

I had been driving in Singapore for 34 years when I received my first summons for speeding! It was not the first time I had exceeded the speed limit, but it was the first time I had been fined for doing so.

My first reaction was one of disgust. But as I contemplated the spiritual lesson, I realized that no matter how long I had been driving without a ticket, I was still accountable.

If I can break such a clearly defined law as a speed limit, think how easy it is to break God’s perfect law, which covers every aspect of life. No one, no matter how moral or religiously fervent, can keep it perfectly.

Paul wrote, “By the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin” (Rom. 3:20). Keeping the law can’t save us; rather, through the law we become aware of our sin (3:7-12). That’s why God sent His Son to save us. We need the righteousness of Jesus, because we can’t be justified through our good deeds. Paul concluded, we are “justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law” (v.28).

If you have put your faith in Christ, you can say with Paul, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin” (Rom. 4:7-8).

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued? —Wesley

God’s law shows us a need that only God’s grace can supply.

A Presidential Psalm, if there were to be such a thing ~

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a]

2 I will say [b] of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Amen to your beautiful prayer, Irish.

Pegita, thank you for posting the 91st Psalm. I have been convicted to pray that Psalm over our President for nearly 8 years and I know that others have probably done the same. May the Lord God, our Mighty Father, continue to uphold George W. Bush with His righteous right hand, and may our President forever dwell in the secret place where he is safe in the shadow of the Almighty.

What a Blessing, dear Faith, to claim the Word of God for our beloved President. To God be the Glory ... Great things He has done, and continues to do, in the life of George W. Bush.

(NKJV)

“Who healeth all thy diseases.”
- Psalm 103:3

Humbling as is the statement, yet the fact is certain, that we are all
more or less suffering under the disease of sin. What a comfort to know
that we have a great Physician who is both able and willing to heal us!
Let us think of him awhile to-night. His cures are very speedy-there is
life in a look at him; his cures are radical-he strikes at the centre of
the disease; and hence, his cures are sure and certain. He never fails,
and the disease never returns. There is no relapse where Christ heals; no
fear that his patients should be merely patched up for a season, he makes
new men of them: a new heart also does he give them, and a right spirit
does he put with them. He is well skilled in all diseases. Physicians
generally have some speciality. Although they may know a little about
almost all our pains and ills, there is usually one disease which they
have studied above all others; but Jesus Christ is thoroughly acquainted
with the whole of human nature. He is as much at home with one sinner as
with another, and never yet did he meet with an out-of-the-way case that
was difficult to him. He has had extraordinary complications of strange
diseases to deal with, but he has known exactly with one glance of his eye
how to treat the patient. He is the only universal doctor; and the
medicine he gives is the only true catholicon, healing in every instance.
Whatever our spiritual malady may be, we should apply at once to this
Divine Physician. There is no brokenness of heart which Jesus cannot bind
up. “His blood cleanseth from all sin.
“ We have but to think of the myriads who have been delivered from all
sorts of diseases through the power and virtue of his touch, and we shall
joyfully put ourselves in his hands.
We trust him, and sin dies; we love him, and grace lives; we wait for him
and grace is strengthened; we see him as he is, and grace is perfected for
ever.
