In another excerpt from Rev. Michael Pfleger's sermon last Sunday, May 25, from the pulpit of Sen. Barack Obama's now former church, Trinity United Church of Christ on the South side of Chicago, the longtime Obama associate condemns America for racism in fairly harsh terms.
Watch HERE.
"Racism is still America's greatest addiction," Pfleger says. "I also believe that America is the greatest sin against God."
There seems to be a mixed reaction to that from the pews. But Pfleger explains:
"If the greatest command is to love, than the sin against love must be the greatest sin against God who IS love and who calls us to love one another. So that this greatest sin against God, racism, it's as natural as the air we breath."
Obama, of course, resigned from Trinity on Friday, saying he didn't want to be held accountable for every word spoken from the pulpit at the church, and he didn't want the church to continue to have the media disrupting its worship. The last straw may have been Pfleger's mocking of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, from the pulpit in this same sermon.
But Obama's relationship with Pfleger -- who is the priest at a different, Catholic, church -- spans decades.
In September, the Obama campaign brought Pfleger to Iowa to host one of several interfaith forums for the campaign. Pfleger has given money to Obama's campaigns and Obama as a state legislator directed at least $225,000 towards social programs at St. Sabina's, according to the Chicago Tribune. Pfleger appears to have been scrubbed from the Obama campaign's page that features the testimony of faith leaders, but you can see the cached version HERE.

UPDATE: Asked for a response to this newly-posted excerpt from the sermon, the Obama campaign has re-released the same statement it issued last week after the video of Rev Pfleger's mocking of Sen. Clinton was released: As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us. That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause. - Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois
The statement of a terrorist.
And he is welcomed at the church that formed Obama for 20 years.
Shudder....
Hmmmm...Does the Catholic Church have any track record of failing to address serious issues in a timely manner? Nothing comes to mind...
Honkie say wha... ?
Racism is alive and well in the streets of Chicago, however it is the black segment that exhibits that racism. As a young person that has lived in New Hampshire, Texas and now NW Indiana (about 35 miles from Chicago) I have never seen such hatred from the black population as I have experienced in the Chicago area.
Glad to see this made ABC news.
As much as I hate the MSM, this needs to get out to the general public. Obama is one scary dude and I hope he loses the Catholic vote because of this.
I thought that Pfleger was part of the Obama campaign, his Catholic outreach guy, or something.
This Lutheran can remember a time when priests like this would be taken out of the public eye and sequestered in a monastary for a couple of years.
Worked then, should be tried now.
A big YES! I think this guy (he's not a priest in my opinion) is Catholic in name only. If you go to St. Sabina's web site and link on to the calendar on Sunday he lists "worship service" Catholics don't have "worship service"----- we have Mass.
Just the place, even if a little white for his taste.
In that case padre, go somewhere else, "and sin no more."
This guy claims to be a Christian? "America" is a place. A place cannot commit a sin. Only an individual soul can commit a sin. All Americans are sinners. So are Canadians, Mexicans, Tibetans, Germans, Moroccans, South Africans, Australians, etc. None of those countries have sinned, but every living soul within those countries continue to sin.
The "greatest sin among God," according to God, (Proverbs 6:16-19), "These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren."
I'll let God sort out your sins, but your words seem to be proud and are certainly sowing discord. Arguments can be made that you're guilty of the other five, as well.
Before anybody brings it up, I'm certainly aware of the board in my own eye.
To suggest that a piece of dirt can commit a sin is pure ignorance, to put it mildly. Kindly take off your collar, step away from the mic, and get to know Jesus. He will help you.
No, the greatest sin against God is for a hateful rabble rousing racist to wear a Roman collar and pretend he is a Catholic priest in an effort to gain notariety for his own egotistical self and his godless political cause.
Pretty smug comment, we Catholics are used to it on this web site! Name your religion and I am sure we can find some scandal/scandals.
Shame on you then!
