Acknowledging that public opinion is against them and that a loss in the Supreme Court of the United States is likely eminent, gun control groups are regrouping and preparing to try new tactics to accomplish their unpopular goals.

They are also holding out hope for support from the presidency next year. Democrat Barack Obama has a history of favoring gun control schemes and is their candidate of choice. However, they are clinging to Republican John McCain's past support for closing the (non-existent) "the gun-show loophole" as a sign that he may be receptive to their goals.

They are biding their time until the next administration, which will necessarily be somewhat 2A-averse.

The frustration that Paul Helmke expresses over the fact that most Americans understand their right is indicative that his propaganda has not worked. Helmke: it IS an individual right.

However, by gum, that pesky Second Amendment doesn’t say ANYTHING about a right to LOAD the arms you are bearing!

Nor about pulling the trigger!

They will never stop.

>While some pro-gun advocates fear this may lead to a push to confine guns and self-defense only to the home, others believe this points to a new trend of redefining entire classes of firearms as "assault weapons."

I am so tired of the ignorance of the American public.

An assault weapon, by definition, is capable of semi-automatic and/or automatic fire.

Assault weapon

People this stupid don't deserve freedom.

"... Why are we arguing a theory anymore? ..."

The anti-gun left concocted this poppycock that the Second Amendment is some sort of attenuated "collective right" in order to try to destroy the meaning of the Second Amendment. Now that this absurdity appears to no longer be useful, they will happily consign it to the dust of the history books.

Lies and misrepresentation are all they have, and when a lie is no longer convenient, it is abandoned.

I give 2A rights another two decades at most. If the SCOTUS doesn't mess it up (and that's a big IF), their decision will define the rights more sharply, and leave in its wake a lot of restrictions, provisos, and malignant howevers. These will be converted into new gun control demands and eventually into new laws.

Fortunately, it would appear that 75% of Americans are on our side.

Yes, and I'm sure 75% are against abortion on demand, euthanasia, homosexual marriage, the removal of Christian symbols from every last square inch of public property, welfare and free tuition for illegal aliens, nukes for Iran...et cetera. But these things are just around the corner.

It doesn't matter what 75% of the sheeple want.

I don’t believe that 75% bulldung statistic, not for a minute. WTH are these people thinking? Banning guns is NOT the answer to crime. Look at the UK. They’re in the midst of a knifing epidemic. Will they ban knives? This just drives me nuts!

My individual rights are spelled out clearly in the 2nd and I intend to fight any attempt to curtail them.

"Universal background checks don't affect the right of self-defense in the home.

Lie. Tell that to the woman who was delayed, and was murdered during the delay.

Banning a super dangerous class of weapons, like assault weapons, also would not adversely affect the right of self-defense in the home," said Brady Campaign Attorney Dennis Henigan.

Lie. Anyone who is made a criminal because of possession of a certain gun has had his rights affected. And by the way, the right to self-defense extends beyond the home. Oddly, when the JBTs go through people's home on a no-knock, what do they choose to use for maximum protection of themselves? Sawed off, fully automatic, high-capacity assault rifles. If it's good enough for our "protectors" it's good enough for us.

"Curbing large volume sales doesn't affect self-defense in the home."

Depending on what a "large volume sale" is, this too might be a lie. 2?

It's the same old same old from the gun grabbers. "Oh, we're not trying to restrict any rights, just enact some reasonable, modest, gun safety measures." Liars all.

Where does the Constitution say that the police forces of America should be armed with assault weapons either?

If the higher firepower is needed, bring in the ATF or National Guard.

No high sherriffs with their own personal militaries.

“Brady Campaign Attorney Dennis Henigan said there are multiple gun control measures that would not run afoul of a Supreme Court decision striking down the D.C. gun ban. “

“Universal background checks don’t affect the right of self-defense in the home. Banning a super dangerous class of weapons, like assault weapons, also would not adversely affect the right of self-defense in the home,” said Henigan. “Curbing large volume sales doesn’t affect self-defense in the home.”

Let us not forget the alternatives to gun control. Such as ammunition control (being tried right now), make everybody a felon control (well on the way), ammo-tax control, etc.

What is obvious is these anti-American jerks will not stop their quest for “what is best for all us peons” even if the Supreme Court of the United States clearly states beyond any shadow of any doubt that it is an individual right.

Even if the SC completely affirms the right to bear arms, I look for some of the following bills under an Obama Presidency:

-Ban on importing all surplus military ammo (too affordable, and "for killing").
-Ban on importing all parts for "assault weapons".
-Ban on .50 cal rifles.
-Ban on "unusually destructive" hollowpoint or "armor piercing" ammo.
-Massive tax levies on ammo to fund "medical costs to cities".
-More schemes to require registration and licensing, and to prevent private sales and inheritances.
-More schemes to classify more and more people as somehow unfit to have their rights.
-Endless false statistics and propaganda about rising gun deaths and "assault weapon" attacks.

It's going to be an interesting four years for the Tree of Liberty.

I hope it is, but two recent 5-4 decisions, with Kennedy the swing vote and author of each, makes me wonder about that. The first one involved according rights to illegal combatants captured on the battlefield, in spite of centuries of precedent to the contrary, with no intervening change in the Constitution to justify a change in case law. The second involved an illegal alien who overstayed his visa, being granted the right to stay in the country, in spite of other transgressions against the immigration laws, and with no question that he'd had his "due process" hearing. He'd even signed a voluntary agreement to leave! (He is Nigerian, not that that matters)
