The owners of a small South End gallery say they had the best of intentions when they commissioned a famous and often mischievous street artist to install a massive political mural on a construction wall lining one of the artiest strips of the South End.
The mural, 13 feet high and nearly a block long, features multiple composite portraits of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln, their faces melded together in a rainbow of colors. It is meant, the gallery said, to inspire dialogue.
That it did. The morning after artist Ron English and his band of volunteers finished the mural, "Abraham Obama," it stirred a tempest in this insular arts community, though it had nothing to do with Lincoln, Obama or English himself.
Rather, residents, business owners, and even fellow gallery owners expressed frustration, angst, and anger over the way some English enthusiasts descended upon the city, plastering windows, telephone polls, and other surfaces with miniature posters meant to advertise the massive exhibit.

This artist did a series called New World Order. Interesting style based on Picasso's Guernica and a message even most on FR would agree with. Was in one of the mass emails circulating with illegal billboards in the past.

And Obama hired Shepherd Fairey to make the famous HOPE and CHANGE posters knowing full well that he posts graffiti on stop signs. He mentioned it in his letter.
I think it was English who made the “King of Beers” “King of Jews” vandalism of a billboard in Houston.

NO, you bare ALL the responsibilty for that since you decided to hire a known vandal of private property. Just because you didn't anticipate or plan to avoid his "followers'" typical vandalism doesn't make you any less culpable you idiot. You wanted a left-winger to make a portrait of the "massiah" and the results WERE predictable. Would English-the-hack have been hired to paint McCain? Only if it made him look bad, I'm guessing.
English made a name for himself by co-opting corporate billboards in New York City and pasting over them with his own billboards that lampooned corporate excess, war, and other hot-button topics. His website, popaganda.com, displays a gallery of illegal billboards he has erected.
Someone somewhere probably has video. ATMs are cameras. Traffic lights have cameras. Security cameras are at many businesses.
Find a single shot of the vandals in action.
The one with the eye patch is probably the most life-like to the real pirate Obama. Arrrggghhh!! Ahoy Whitey!!

"Inspire dialogue" is code for a propaganda technique known as the Self Evident Technique, specifically an APPEAL TO AUTHORITY, where the propagandist will cite authoritive, "prominent figures." It's straight out of the U.S. Army's PSYOPs field manual.
