Chowdhury Got Angry When Garage Door Didn't Open Quickly.
A state legislative candidate from Jefferson County accused of slapping and choking his 16-year-old daughter pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree assault.
Vince Chowdhury, 48, got angry when his wife and daughter didn't open the garage door quickly enough when he honked his car horn in their driveway on June 17, according to an arrest affidavit. The document said Chowdhury, a Jefferson County school board member, sat in the driveway several minutes honking his horn.
His wife and daughter apologized for making him wait but he thought the apology insincere so he slapped his daughter's face and then began to choke her with both hands when she backed away, the girl said.
Chowdhury said after his courtroom appearance Tuesday morning. "I feel that I should have used better judgment. And the three minutes of anger ... I felt that I could have done a better job of handling the situation."
For the misdemeanor, he was given a one-year deferred sentence and ordered to take anger management and parenting classes.
"The intent was to discipline my child who I felt was being disrespectful to her father. I know now there's a better way of handling the situation, I should have done that," Chowdhury said. "And I want to move forward with this...

When asked if he planned to resign from the school board or quit the race for the House seat, Chowdhury replied that he is taking it one step at a time and will address those issues at a later date.

This Dad committed 1st degree assault on his minor child. I don’t know why he didn’t get jail time, like any other father would. If he did that to an adult, it would definitely be 1st degree assault also. Laws in this country are never applied fair or equitable.

As far as a gun being the “great equalizer” yes, that may be true, but not all of us live, eat, sleep with our sidearms and I don’t expect a teenager to, especially.
Krav makes it possible to get out of these situations quickly and *incapacitate* an attacker so that you can get to a safe place. It isn’t a gun, but it’s a damn good way to disarm someone and flee, and anyone can do it.

Hands choke people. If we didn’t have such easy access to hands, they couldn’t choke people. They need to be locked up. He won’t be able to opne the lock and get them (he’s without hands) but that is just a logistical problem...

He’s still serving on the school board until 2009.
