“But multiple wives? Imagine 6 women nagging you for the rest of your life.”

Not to mention a mother-in-law from each one.

Once, in front of boys and girls gathered in the meeting hall, Warren grabbed Annette's long braided hair, twisting it slowly around his hand, tightening his grip until she dropped to the floor, her face turning crimson and contorting in pain.

But that's Biblical, so it's OK. If the Koran authorized it, though, that would be an outrage. ;)

Sure, it’s “Biblical”.

Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

"There's biblical sanction for polygamy."

Yep, there is also biblical sanction for owning slaves, selling your daughter and killing someone for planting his crops in the wrong fashion.

In my book they are all wrong.

You sir, are correct.

So, why choose to charge him with bigamy, instead of polygamy?

Are they legally the same thing, or is there a difference?

Did they have some reason for that choice?

I find it odd they went with bigamy, don’t you?

Polygamy, as conducted by the FLDS, is simply a pyramid scheme.

Same rules, and pretty much the same results.

“There’s biblical sanction for polygamy.”

As far as we can tell, the Bible is fairly accurate on the details of the descriptions of the ‘people’ of the time.

Polygamy wasn’t the only questionable activity being practiced.

Christianity did not exist, at the time. The stories had to be written, before they could be collected and turned into a Bible. So, How could the principles in Christianity be applied to descriptions of what was accept or die behavior , way back then?

There is biblical sanction for nailing a guy to a wooden cross, and stabbing him in the stomach.

It was the ‘law’, as well, at the time.

“So, How could the principles in Christianity be applied to descriptions of what was accept or die behavior , way back then?”

There is some validity to the argument that without Law there is no sin, but that is probably beyond the scope of the current question: Can Scriptural evidence be given to show Biblical sanction of polygamy?

“There is biblical sanction for nailing a guy to a wooden cross,”

Do you mean capital punishment in general or Jesus’ execution in particular? Big difference.

One way this subject is obfuscated is by taking the law given by Moses out of context. The law could not change the heart. Polygamy, unbiblical divorce etc. were found among the people. The law regulated what was sinful behavior so as to restrict it. Regulating something is not a sanctioning of it. Jesus'commentary on divorce illustrates this when he says, "Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered (tolerated or endured)..." He then adds "but from the beginning it was not so." Matt. 19:8.

Technically bigamy is polygamy. I don't think Texas has a polygamy statute per se.

You know, this polygamous issue is practiced among various Mizrahi Jews. & I am biased toward them & hesitant to ever criticize them or anything that they do in public, so I don't like to comment on this. But what you said is very true & something that I've been thinking for a while. Thank you for putting it so clearly.

When people are adults, they can do as they darn well please.

Should adults be allowed to smoke marijuana because they darn well please?

Just imagine, each new wife brings a new mother-in-law. ;0)

Within the FLDS both might be sister-wives. Warren Jeffs married a bunch of his step-mothers when his father died.

I wear a long braid but I wouldn’t advise someone to try that on me . . . not if they wanted to continue to breathe.
