In Loose Style, McCain Leads a Camp Divided
The New York Times ^ | 2008-08-09 | Adam Nagourney & Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 08/09/2008 11:09:03 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

WASHINGTON — Senator John McCain is so quick to pick up his gold-colored cellphone to solicit advice — from senators, campaign consultants, even the stray former deputy press secretary — that aides, concerned about his tendency to adopt the last opinion he has heard, have tried to cut back on the time he has to make calls.

Mr. McCain hungers for information.

Too bad he doesn't read Free Republic, though plenty of his mugwhores do.

But if Mr. McCain’s management style....recalls the freewheeling ways of the last Republican senator to win his party’s presidential nomination, Bob Dole in 1996.

First the NYT decides the McCain campaign is screwed up and then it chastises it for this problem.

In actual fact, what little basis they have for their assertions is off-the-record discussions by anonymous figures.

No one stops to think, that Senator McCain and his campaign are tied in the polls with Barak Obama in spite of a 12 point generic Democrat over Republican finding.

Previously, the war was lost. Then the surge would not work and now McCain does not have a chance.

his tendency to adopt the last opinion he has heard

Well therein lies the solution!

Dump Lindsay, Joe, Steve Schmidt and the lobbyists and give McCain a full-time conservative Freeper nurse
who constantly whispers conservative thoughts and solutions into his ear!

“No one stops to think, that Senator McCain and his campaign are tied in the polls with Barak Obama in spite of a 12 point generic Democrat over Republican finding.”

Must be pretty frustrating for at least two groups:

The democrats, who expected a cakewalk, and

The true conservatives who repeatedly swear they won’t vote for McCain, and those who claim it will be best for the conservative cause if Obama wins.

I for one can’t help but sort of admire the maverick in him, who seems to just soldier (sail?) on, in spite of the threats, the advice givers, detractors, etc.

And, about 500 million dollars in free advertising for Obama from the gushing in the old media. I've seen a lot of presidential campaigns now. The media has been clearly rooting for the dem in every one of them. But since 1980, it gets worse every election cycle. 2008 is far and away the worst. (I just wonder what NBCCBSABCCNNMSNBCNYTWAPO has planned for a week before the election this year. It's going to have to be a doozy to be worse than the DUI in 2000 and the RatherGate and Al Qaa Qaa blitzes the media ran in 2004 and the corrupt R's blitz in 2006. It's amazing that the only last minute scandals that erupt before an election are perpetrated by R's, isn't it? They wouldn't dream of holding the Larry Sinclair story until a week before the election and then giving it wall-to-wall coverage into election day. But that's basically what happens to R's every single presidential election.)

To his credit, McCain's quixotic ads have knocked the media off the Obamessiah hope and change crap and the TRIUMPHANT VISIT TO EUROPE crap a little by embarassing them and forcing Obama to talk about tire guages and oil drilling. To be sure, the media will regroup and there will be a new narrative that requires Obama to be elected. But they have been knocked off stride.

In 1992 by this point, the old media had already been running a focused, twelve month campaign to convince Americans that all of us and our children would be dying soon because of the health care system and that we needed a national health care system so our children could survive the decade and that GHWB was a dork.

The closest equivalent to that this year is the Global Warming Crisis. But they haven't managed a convincing case that Obama has any useful ideas in that regard. And, McCain has neutralized that issue (even before 4.00 gas) by being as wrong about the issue as Obama.

So they are left writing articles wondering why Obama isn't further ahead.

The only way McCain’s aides are leaking to the NYSlimes is to spread disinformation. I think McCain figures anyone with half a brain will remember Jayson Blair, Greg “man on the street” Packer, and other fiction from the Slimes.

The NYT is not a credible news source.

It actually is...a news source for Democrat and anti-American propaganda.

Right if it's true, which it probably isn't.

Why don’t you just go ahead and call your ping list the “Just Say Yes to Obama Ping List”, Democrat troll?

I look forward to the hysterical cries of vote fraud both here and over at DU on election night after John McCain crushes Obama in a landslide. Should be quite entertaining.

I beg to differ. When he was a 'Maverick Senator' [still is in my book], the most prominent tabloid trash ass wipe that hawked his name in a good light was the NYT. In that respect, it would be inconceivable that he didn't regularly look for his name there. And, I believe that it is very likely that he still does scan the NYT, if even out of habit.

Somehow I think we will be seeing a lot more of this between now and November - "conservative" posters who have been here a month calling FReepers, who have been here for years, trolls, because they refuse to drink the McCain kool-aid.

John McCain = America's last hope

Stop insulting our intelligence. If mccain wins it'll be ONLY because the alternative is so unacceptable as to be even considered. Other than that most of us know the hope mccain offers is not to conservatives but to liberals and their policies along with his illegal alien friends he seems to care so much about.
