'Nazi' Atrocities Shock in Georgia - Civilians 'Slain & Sent to Camps'
nypost.com ^ | August 14, 2008 | CHRISTOPHER TORCHIA in Gori, Georgia, and CHUCK BENNETT in NY

Russian troops are indiscriminately murdering civilians and interning them in concentration camps, the embattled Georgian president charged yesterday, as he begged the West not to "appease" Moscow as it did with Nazi Germany.

The startling accusations came as Russian troops blatantly violated a cease-fire by sending an armored convoy through the strategic city of Gori.

The invaders first poured into Georgia five days ago - ostensibly in defense of a pro-Moscow breakaway region, South Ossetia. "What they are doing is exactly what Stalin did to Finland, what they've done to Afghanistan, what in the Second World War Germany was doing to Poland and to other European countries," Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said.

Saakashvili, a US-educated lawyer who once practiced law in New York, described the situation in Georgia as the rape of his country.

Use it , teach it !!

That is an old as the ages military quote .........during my entire career from enlistment to retirement 26 years later that was repeated and hammered into our brains by all levels of leadership.

I live by that to this very day !...........:o)

...and interning them in concentration camps...

Wow, the Russians must have created these concentration camps in record time. They've only had, what, about a week to construct these camps (?).

The Putin regime has had journalists killed. That it would set up death camps sounds perfectly plausible to me.

How long does it take to set up a camp? Take a Fence, barbed wire and set out a field. Bunch of armed tugs to guard. Voila.

They can also use deserted Military facilities.

What you are describing is a detention center - not a concentration camp - there is a difference.

A concentration camp can be anything. It's a camp... to concentrate lots of prisoners in it. Nothing more. I guess you imagine the fortified, thoroughly planned and constructed Nazi concentration camps with rows of barracks... well what the British set up in the Boor war, were also concentration camps, many smaller units of the Gulag were also little more than shacks surrounded by a fence.

And as I said if the Russians are putting civilians into deserted Military facilities, then you have the fixed buildings, watchtowers and electric fences already standing.

I have no idea whether the Russians are doing this. I have not seen evidence yet. But I won't put it beside them. In fact I imagine the Russians to have committed every possible viciousness by now. But my point is that it's logistically no big thing to set up a camp or use a standing facility.

Sure...I understand your point.

However, I think we all need to settle down and get a handle on the rhetoric that is being used - by all sides.

For example, Putin's claim of Genocide is just flat out ridiculous.

Absolutely correct. Russia and China must be listed as states sponsoring terrorism. Both are officially involved in depraved human rights violations. Both use political enslavement and murder as tools of their repression.

Russian death camps have been operating continuously since the Tsars. Tens of millions, perhaps hundreds of millions have disappeared into the murderous maw of Russian terror. This is nothing new. It is standard operating proceedure. Wake up and smell the rotting flesh emanating from Moscow for the past 100 years.

Perhaps I could get more worked up about this if the city of Gori wasn't STILL promoting Stalin worship...

I apologize if I have misinterpreted your post but it seems that you feel Georgian reverence for Stalin somehow justifies the current Russian aggression.

If so, please consider the following:

A lot of people in Tennessee still revere Nathan Bedford Forrest, the great Confederate cavalry commander. Before the Civil War Mr. Forrest was a trader in slaves. During the Civil War General Forrest was the author of the Fort Pillow massacre against Union troops who were attempting to surender. After the war Mr. Forrest was one of the founders of the KKK.

Queen Elizabeth the First of England ran a religious police state that oppressed Catholics, butchered thousands of innocent Irish civilians, murdered Spanish war prisoners and used piracy as a tool of national policy.

Joseph Stalin was a beast, responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people. After Mao he ranks second on the long list of 20th century butchers.

That said, if you think the reverence of the Georgian people for Stalin justifies the current Russian aggression, do you think similar attacks against Tennessee or England would be similarly justified?
