(Fred) Thompson Speech Hits Media on Palin, Obama on Abortion
The Weekly Standard ^ | September 02, 2008 | by Stephen F. Hayes

Posted on 09/02/2008 5:06:04 PM PDT by library user

Fred Thompson will forcefully defend the selection of Sarah Palin tonight in a speech Republicans are characterizing as "red meat." He will argue that the feeding frenzy over Palin's is the result of "panic" from the Democrat-friendly mainstream media.

"What a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is. She is from a small town, with small town values, but that's not good enough for those folks who are attacking her and her family. Let's be clear, the selection of Governor Palin has the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. She is a courageous, successful, reformer, who is not afraid to take on the establishment."

Thompson will also criticize Barack Obama's answer on abortion from his recent appearance at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church. Warren had asked: "Now, let’s deal with abortion. 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade. you know, as a pastor I have to deal with this all of the time. All of the pain and all of the conflicts. I know this is a very complex issue. 40 million abortions. At what point does a baby get human rights in your view?"

Obamas responded: "Well, I think that whether you are looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade."

Thompson will criticize Obama for dodging the issue: "We need a President, and Vice President, who will take the federal bureaucracy by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shaking. And we need a President who doesn't think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade."

The bulk of Thompson's speech will be a testimonial on behalf of John McCain, his character and his leadership. John McCain has "the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders."

Here’s hoping Fred spends a lot of his time eviscerating the Obama Machine (including its right arm, the MSM) for what they’re doing to Sarah Palin and her family. I’d like to hear him spend the second largest chunk of his time extolling Gov Palin’s character and life experiences that uniquely qualify her for the VP position. It would make me happy if he spent the least amount of time trying to sell me on how John McCain walks on water. I’m afraid there’ll be too much of that for my taste, but I’ll listen anyway.

Go Fred!

I think I recall “BO” at a “town hall” type gathering a few months back, speaking about pro-choice and spoke hypothetically about unwanted teen pregnancy. I wish someone could find that tape and run it.... What a statement way above his pay grade would it make.

I voted for Fred in the primary. He got 8 votes in my town out of 2000 cast. Thompson got almost 600 in my state of about 150,000 cast.

Maybe the hurricane timing WAS an act of God. It gave the press another day to dig it’s hole deeper. It will be interesting to see the republican responses to all the Palin bashing and where that leaves the attackers.

Fred was also my choice. Sing it Fred to the highest mountain and lowest valley. Rip those mutha’s a new one for what they’ve attempted to do to Palin. Let all who hear and read embrace the truth. The Lib’s aren’t just scared they are PETRIFIED of Palin. And they wonder how she would do up against Putin? Shoot, just mention her name and a Die Hard Dem gets the trots. SING IT FRED!!! Looking so forward to his speech.

I love Fred, but do you think it will seem defensive and angry to the average person watching, or do you think it needs to be said and out of the way??

Man, I wish Fred had really, really wanted to be President. I voted for him despite knowing that McCain had already won the primary. His views are much closer to mine than are those of McCain.

I wish I could watch his speech tonight, but alas, I'm going to watch the first half of this Dirty Harry movie and go to bed. O400 hours comes early!

God bless Thompson. I remember him in the senate Chinagate hearing. Larry Klayman kept bashing him. But I still think Thompson laid out a good case back then. The rats were just so stubbornly opposed.

I do think it needs to be addressed for what it is. To verbally acknowledge just exactly whats been going on with the MSM and reminding the base it’s all based on horrifying fear. It will fire up the base tonight when someone tells them.. WE ARE WINNING.. and they know it and this is why Gov. Sarah Palin is being ripped to shreds. It will be a loud enough voice that can be re-played as often as needed from this point on.

My choice, too, primarily due to his obvious disdain for the pop-culture politics of our age.

“Rino” McCain was my last choice..I said i would not vote for him....

HOWEVER...with his pick of Palin...he's half changed my mind...

NOW...if he can fix his stance on amnesty...

He'll get my vote...AND my money! (Conservatives should hold his feet to the fire now....unless u want a "RINO" government.)

I love Haley Barbour, too. But who was in charge of the traffic flow in his state this past weekend when people were trying to evacuate from Gustav? It was as bad a traffic situation as I’ve ever seen. We were trying to head to Huntsville from a suburb of N.O. and on a normal day it would have taken us 6 hours to get there. It took us 13 hours. I realize that this was not a normal day, but it was a horrific experience. People actually had time to get out of their cars and hold long conversations with each other on the interstate.

Fred Thompson is the perfect antidote to the Obama media-led assaults. What is Barack Obama’s position on late-term abortion? On unconditional negotiations with a genocidal maniac, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Why does Obama believe that Americans “cling” to religious faith?
