A Clear and Present Danger To the American Left

A Clear and Present Danger To the American Left September 3, 2008

St. Paul

Notes from the convention:

Drafts of John McCain's acceptance speech have been bopping around the inside of the campaign for at least a few days, and a question is whether or how much it will be changed to account for the hurricane in New Orleans and the Gulf coast. An early draft is said to have been direct to the point of rambunctious in drawing contrasts between the policies of Obama and McCain. "Lotta biography, lotta foreign policy, taking Obama straight on," said a GOP strategist Tuesday afternoon. The final draft may be different, softer.

Advice? By Thursday night rambunctious will be fine, and a relief. Great political parties must show compassion, but they don't want to wilt with the weight of it.

And: Wit, wit, wit. Humor. "A maid laughing is half taken," said a randy old Elizabethan poet. A voter laughing is half yours, and just received a line he can repeat next weekend over a beer at the barbecue or online at Starbucks. Here is a fact of American politics: If you make us laugh we spread your line for free.

"Great political parties must show compassion, but they don't want to wilt with the weight of it."

The wacko left is already out demanding paternity test for her downs baby.

In all this, and in its involvement in this week's ritual humiliation of a 17-year-old girl, the mainstream press may seriously overplay its hand, and court a backlash that impacts the election.

We've certainly moved beyond "may" in my book, at least concerning the overplaying of its hand. The backlash remains to be seen, but it started yesterday and I think will explode tonight and tomorrow. (Palin and McCain speeches)

Peggy Noonan is not to be trusted. She is too in love with New York and that intellectual environment. However her last paragraph is great and should be taken to heart by McCain. As with Princess Diana thrown into Buckingham Castle and mauled by the high and mighty homosexual male staff and minions around the queen, Sarah will suffer unless she is protected from the minions of John McCain who see themselves as more important that any “VP” in waiting. They are not easy to spot this type of person close to a powerful person and drunk with that power. McCain should personally put her in the hands of someone who will stay by her side and do the right thing for her in the moment - Fred Thompson would be great for this next two weeks or so and then just hire Fred to call her and check in with her twice a day and someone as a personal assistant to make sure she has a cone of protection. She is a jewel that needs protection until he can shine. People are nasty in the world of politics and I am sure John McCain’s castle has some orcs in there waiting to carve Sarah up too.

Great summary of events and great line:

“That was a long way of saying: Dig deep into Sarah Palin, get all you can, talk to everybody, get every vote, every quote, tell us of her career and life, she may be the next vice president.

But don’t play games. And leave her kid alone, bitch.”

LOL!

The left knows that she kicks ass.

Alaska was a training ground for her, a place to exercise her ass kicking skills, wiping out entrenched corruption.

The left IS entrenched political corruption. The left IS entrenched bureaucracy. The left IS political cronyism.

And they know she’ll wipe them out in DC.

I don’t underestimate the Great Mz. P. I just give great weight to the arena that she has entered. I worked on W’s campaign in Florida in 2004 on the front lines of Orange County. Let me tell you there were people “running” the campaign that county who hated W and loved Hillary Clinton. They worked for ans ran Lindsey Graham’s Senate office. If Lindsey Graham comes sniffing around Sarah with speech suggestions she should RUN RUN RUN THE OTHER WAY. Lindsey Graham and his staff worshiped Hillary Clinton in 2004. Don’t know about now BUT Lindsey might be double agenting for her in the McCain campaign and standing around like WORMTONGUE IN MORDOR. SARAH BE SCARED OF HIM PLEASE!!!!!!!! Lindsey Graham thinks HE SHOULD BE VP.

“because she is a feminist not in the Yale Gender Studies sense but the How Do I Reload This Thang way” Nice line.

And I hear your concerns about the minions in McCain’s campaign and in other areas of the party. Someone suggested Fred Thompson as an aide, not a bad idea. Add to that a stalwart or two who can help her navigate in those choppy Washington swamps(Bolton, maybe even the Cheneys)

Again, any complaint against Palin comes back 10x on Obama. If they want a paternity test on her baby, we want conclusive proof of his birth location ... and a ‘failed’ paternity test means little, but a ‘failed’ proof of birth citizenship totally disqualifies him from the race.

Noonan says Palin is a “Hail Mary pass” on McCain’s part. That may be true. However, the current attack on her also has all of the elements of a Hail Mary pass. If it fails to take her down, this election is over.

John McCain would not leave his comrades to waste away in Hanoi. There is no way he will allow Sarah Palin to twist in the wind. He sees her as a comrade. The political animal may cast her aside. a coward might keep her only to avoid the accountability for the choice. A man of honor will fight to defend his ideas and actions and to defend the target of abuse.

With honor anything is possible in a leader. Without honor only chaos, defeat and disillusionment are possible. If we know only one thing about John McCain it is that his sense of honor is greater than his sense of self preservation. He will defend Sarah Palin and America will be the better for it.

More of the excellent analysis that I've come to admire here at FR.

Thanks!
