If 34% state that a debate will determine their vote, then there are 34% very ignorant voters.

Debates should never be the issue in making decisions. It is the experience of the candidate, and even more important, the issues that will affect the nation. These may or may not be articulated to a sufficient degree during a debate. Ifell probably will be like Couric and want to know what newspapers she reads,

nd, debating skills are not relevant to being a good VP or president.

Actually the article is saying this debate is important. Given that he biggest gap in the polls has been 8 or 9% 34% saying their decision will happen tonight (that’s what the article says) is huge.

As much as I think McCain has made a lot of bad mistakes during this campaign, I can’t help but wonder if they kept Palin hidden to avoid the “Obama fatigue factor” and use the VP debate as an opportunity to “reintroduce” her to the American people for the final push home. I mean it’s strange:

McCain’s campaign should have been done in June 07, but he survived. After shoring the nomination, he ran a lackluster effort during the Obama-Clinton battle and let Obama steal the early air....but then hit Obama with the “celebrity” ads and some other good ads that made the press. He left doubts among social conservatives...then had his Saddleback performance. He left concern on who his VP pick would be, then picked a true conservative woman. It seems like at every angle, although waiting until almost the very end, McCain has found a way to claw his campaign back from the jaws of defeat.

Which is why I think he saved Palin for an October reintro to offset the anger among the bailout issue. I suspect she’ll have the gloves off, name the names, and do and say all the things we wished McCain would have in his first debate against Obama.

I see no problem with her stating her positions and saying that she disagrees with McCain.

She could also point out that Biden thought Obama was selling out the troops, and Obama said that nobody that voted for the war is qualified to be POTUS.

I thought about this, but honestly, I expect McCain to turn her loose. And Gov Palin is by far the best (and only) person I can think of who has been able to intertwine the “maverick” message with the conservative message without the conservative message looking like an afterthought.

I don’t think she’ll come out against the bailout. But I do believe she will name the names and explain how McCain and GOP put forward tough regulation legislation and how “our opponent” got the 2nd highest amount from Fannie lobbyists and fought regulation tough and new (or voted present) to maintain lead us down this disastrous road.

nd can clearly communicate their message (because they believe it, not because its a prepared speech) always leave these liberals looking dazed and confused. And it will show through to the American public.

As long as she isn't held to some predefined role foisted on her by the campaign staff

I agree that this debate tonight is important. Curious though, because normally the VP debates are not very important at all. This is an election where lots of the conventional wisdom has been turned upside-down.

What a long, strange trip it’s been.

Don’t ask me why but I have a very deep suspicious feeling that Obama had the questions in advance and was allowed to prepare with them. This is why there were very few Um’s 7 Ah’s. All he did was recite the answers.

The same will occur tonight with Biden.

I believe Gov. Palin should say what she really believes in this debate. Some answers might not be totally in agreement with Sen. McCain but so what? If she comes off as genuine and sincere she wins big and so does McCain. What is McCain going to do? Replace her? If so, she is better off and can run again in 2012.

I pray that you are right and McCain ‘saved Palin so that she’ll have the gloves off, name the names, and do and say all the things we wished McCain would have in his first debate against Obama. Governor Palin is the game changer.

That might be what he said on Hannity but that’t not what this article says. This article is in complete agreement with you.

Yep! If Sarah will just be her true self Joe Biden will need a few weeks of therapy when she is done with him.

so what if they have the questions? The difference is that this time if Biden wants to spew off about the failed Bush economic policies...blah...blah...blah, instead of talking about earmarks (for the 1 millionth time), Sarah’s going to lay out the truth about Obama’s tax plan and call these liberal weaklings on it.
