“We need (all of us) to stop being so emotional and think with our heads like the opposition..”

It is not emotional to point out that McCain is screwing up. It is speaking the truth.

“they have gone out of their way for a year now to yank our emotional chains and demoralize us to elect Obama...”

It is not us here on Freep who are the problem. We’ll vote for McCain anyway. It is the message this sends to undecided voters that is deadly, and there is nothing any of us here can do about that. Under those circumstances, there is nothing wrong with expressing frustration that McCain seems intent on throwing away the last chance he might have to keep the WH out of the hands of a Marxist. We deserve better than this pathetic, half-hearted campaign he is running, and I see nothing wrong with saying so.

After the bailout vote, (which my GOP presidential candidate, senator, and rep. all voted for) I will be pulling the Libertarian lever next month in protest.

Yes, I am voting against Obama AND McCain as well. Sorry it had to be that way, pubbies.

McCain supporters, take hope! IMHO no matter what Juan does, Billary won't let BOH become POTUS. She wants it too badly for herself.

Whoooops! I have said I'm acronym and abbreviation challenged. It's getting worse. BOH=BHO.

I promise to shut up now.

What exactly do you want him to say? Join in the character assination? He is taking the high road and not blaming the man but his judgment.

In your emails maybe just mention to McCain and team that when your the quarterback of a football team and you have the ball on the 50 yard line in a close game and the ball is hiked to you, YOU DO NOT turn around and run a touch down for the other team.

He needs to pick his words a little er a lot more carefully.

I believe he could have handled that situation alot better and not pissed off either side.

Thanks for holding his feet to the fire.

You must remember that the crossover vote in those first few state primaries got McCain elected....Now you know why...

You are assuming there would be free and fair elections in the future after four years of Obama.

As you know, with you I was and am one of Duncan L. Hunter's biggest supporters, sent (for us) a lot of cash to his campaign, and gave my time and effort to his campaign in the form of phone calls and hours of tedious data processing on his behalf. I'd support him in a heartbeat if he decided to run again in the future.

Fast forward to 11 October 2008: we're faced with the prospect of a Justice Stevens retirement on (fittingly) Jan. 22, 2009 should The Obama get in. The question is, do we plan to do about it? Are we going to sit home on election day smitten by the ruse that "this campaign is over, what's the point in voting?" THAT'S THE GOAL OF ALL THE NEGATIVE PRESS!

Are we even going to HAVE a free republic (or even a FreeRepublic.com), if Obama gets in? What can he do to ensure perpetual power for himself and his ideology? Do leftists have a propensity to warp and even disregard the Constitution? Is it possible they may use problems created by Democrats (e.g. Fannie/Freddie and the ensuing meltdown) as impetus for more Democrat "solutions" - using the failure of their policies under the old system as an excuse to dismantle the old system in favor of a new socialism? We all know the answer.

No, we're faced with a choice between an honorable military veteran who is a mediocre candidate and conservative, and a shady 100% hard leftist on the order of scoundrels like Hugo Chavez.

You’ve been here nearly as long as I have. Bipolar disorder is in FR’s nature, and sadly we’re left with no choice but to accept it.

Just remember that some of these people were pessimistic about Reagan.

“Just remember that some of these people were pessimistic about Reagan.”

Great observation. America IS going to come to her senses and vote like ADULTS on 11-04-08. No doubt.

“ankle biting retards...”

You run around expressing joy in Palin’s teenage daughter’s pregnancy, use clipped quotes to attack McCain, and write poorly thought-out anti-McCain vanities, flamming anyone questioning your comments with personal attacks, and then you wonder why people consider you a troll?

The third party clowns who are once again rooting for the far left candidate always seem to flood this site just before an election. They tried to do the same thing in ‘04 when they came here ralling against Bush.

Then why doesn’t McCain champion any legislation which is Republican? Where is his ‘honor’ in this regard?

Why is global warming, amnesty and campaign re-election protection his priorities and not earmark bans, balanced budgets or pentagon reform? The ones he champions are popular with the other guys and the latter issues won’t get enough democrats to pass a filibuster.

McCain talked, almost openly, on two different occasions about switching parties since 2000. Honor? Sounds more like opportunity. Maybe personally criticizing people doesn’t match his personal definition of honor but then he is putting corrupt Senators ahead of taxpayers. Maybe you understand something I don’t about him. But I don’t know if Navy would explain it.

Exactly, all these pundits that are blaming Palin have no clue.

Just as an experiment, if you were to simply to an objective analysis of this election as Democrat X vs Republican Y, look at the various economic data, employment figures, market data, Bush’s approval #s, the third term thing, a recession, the continued decrease of the white vote compounded by an increase in the black and hispanic vote, the amount of money being spent by Obama vs McCain, the party ID edge which has the dems at +10 or higher, the media being completely in the tank, if you were to add all that up and more, there’s really no way any Republican should have a chance in hell of even coming close to winning.

In fact, there a few statistical models that use economic data and other figures to predict the outcome of elections and they all predicted a big Dem win, and this was back in the spring and summer before we had a month of the worst economic crisis and news since the Great Depression. And people think an incumbent party who just got tossed out of Congress and whose President has been below 30% for close the 3 years should have a good chance at winning a 3rd term?

Palin has nothing to do with any of the above. None of it. In this environment no Republican would win and no Democrat would lose. It could be Kucinich vs McCain and Kucinich would be ahead. Any of the dem contenders would be ahead now. Clinton, Dodd, Richardson, Biden, whoever, and probably by more than Obama is. No Republican would be doing any better than McCain is and most would probably be doing worse. If all this economic stuff and other factors were here four years ago, Kerry would have won easily. As it was, he still got 48.3%! And that was woth Bush having just about everything going for him . Think about that for a second. Is it really too hard to imagine Obama adding a couple pts to that given all that’s happened in the past four years?

Palin is probably the only reason or at least one of the bigger ones that this thing is still even remotely competitive. I still think a natl tv ad buy with her and a few high profile appearances on TV could swing things a bit in our direction.

But there are times when the facts on the ground are simply too much to overcome, and this appears to be one of them. McCain’s campaign has been far from perfect, but under the circumstances, I can’t imagine any Republican doing much better.

It may just be that we have to take our medicine, like we did in 1976, and hope to come back in strong in 2012 after the country sees 4 years of Obama/Pelosi all dem/all liberal leadership.

But Palin has been a breath of fresh air and a breakout star. If the economy hadn’t tanked in the middle of Septe, ber, I think things would look a lot different now and McCain might even be ahead, but the economy did tank and that pretty much ended any hopes we had of winning.
