I have many Republican friends who are disgusted that I'm voting third party this election year. They believe stopping Barack Obama from becoming president outweighs all else. Meanwhile, I have many Democrat friends who are equally disgusted; for them, seeing John McCain defeated is more important than who wins. They are all wasting their votes.
Imagine a reckless teenager who constantly runs up his parents' credit cards, smashes the family car every Friday night, is failing in school, and has serious drinking and drug problems. Now imagine that no matter how reckless and dangerous that teenager became, his parents believed his behavior was worth tolerating simply because he was "their" kid. No reasonable person would consider this good parenting.
And yet this is exactly how otherwise reasonable people vote.
No matter how bad the Republican or Democrat nominee for president is, the party faithful support their own without fail. The message to politicians? They may lie, ignore their party's platform, and betray every supposed principle, but they will never be held accountable by most voters. Like the reckless teenager, there is simply no reason for them to stop their irresponsible behavior.
The greatest power the people have is their vote, and in supporting the lesser of two evils each election, voters ensure eternal evil.

And what better way than to vote for a guy nobody's ever heard of, who's running under the banner of a party that traditionally runs neck and neck with the Libertarians in their headlong race for the cellar!

I have no qualms about people that vote third party. It is not a wasted vote, nor is it a vote for someone else, as many would say.
I will be voting for John McCain (Actually Sarah Palin) this election cycle.
Does he represent me? No.
But he represents me as much as any other candidate in the race, I respect his service to his country, I admire that he sticks to his guns, even when lambasted by his party, the other party, or anyone else for that matter, and this is the only candidate that has a chance of keeping BHO out of the oval office.
Can you provide a better solution for us to break out of the “vote for the lesser of two evils” death spiral? Getting kinda tired of doing that here.
I like Baldwin, and the CP is mostly OK except for their isolationist planks, but those could be changed over time.
The problem, of course, is that they’re not going to win.
I have no problem with those who make a principaled vote. I don’t say things like, “They’re just voting for Obama.” I don’t think they are. They’re voting their principles, so I take them at their word.
I vote for McCain because I think it is mathematically more likely that Obama will win the fewer votes that McCain gets. It’s simply a math problem for me. It’s not about anyone’s intentions or ethics.
If it’s a lost cause for McCain, then I’ll vote for Baldwin.

McCain has problems but has shown to change his mind in our favor. Look at the drilling issue.

You have to think past today. When I mistakenly voted for Ross Perot, it did NOTHING but give us 8 years of Clinton. And your vote for a third party candidate will give us Obama.

To me, nothing is above life. I must vote for someone who will get in, and appoint Supreme Court judges who will protect life.

I’m not arguing that. Lord knows McCain was not even on my short list a few months ago. But it still doesn’t change the fact that there’s only two teams in this championship. And if we lose this game, the sport will NEVER be the same.
I think the author and anyone else who is voting third party this year is handing the election to Obamanation. Don’t do it!

Start supporting, with CASH DeMint’s group that is trying to get conservative Senators elected. It sends a signal to the GOP if your money goes there instead.
In the meantime, vote in Sarah Palin.
