I'm not a fan of vanities, so I apologize in advance. In fact, I don't recall ever posting one until now.
I have been thinking about Biden's "crisis" gaffe the other day but I don't recall anybody equating it with Hayek's The Road to Serfdom and wanted to get some Freeper opinion.
Hayek warns that war will create a central planning government and the citizens would be so desperate for leadership they will go along with whatever is presented to "fix" the "crisis." In order to get popular opinion on their side, the planners will infiltrate the workplace with propoganda celebrating the leader.
Is this what Biden was hinting at?
"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. "And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him - we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him . Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."
"Gird your loins," Biden told the crowd. "We're gonna win with your help, God willing, we're gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It's like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than think about it, literally, think about it this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy."
"I've forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I'm not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it. This guy has it. But he's gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, 'Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?' We're gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I'm asking you now, I'm asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you're going to have to reinforce us."
"There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, 'Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don't know about that decision'," Biden continued. "Because if you think the decision is sound when they're made, which I believe you will when they're made, they're not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they're popular, they're probably not sound."
"We have the ability to straighten it out. It's gonna take a little bit of time, so I ask you to stay with us. Stay with us."
As a worshipper of Hayek, I would like to have your opinion...
I’ve never read Hayak but when I read what Biden said I thought of martial law.
My initial thought was more along the lines of the Soviets having spies in every neighborhood and apartment building, and local “committees” to report on malcontents. Very scary stuff.
We’ll be told there is a national crisis, one that the Dems will claim was caused by Bush. It will be so blown out of proportion that the only way to “solve” it would be to support Obama in everything he did...even it meant getting rid of the present US constitution and replacing it with one more in tune with the times, one that wouldn’t be so objective to the rest of the world. Those that didn’t support Obama would be considered enemies of the State.
As the intellectual power behind Reagan and Thatcher, Hayek will provide any reader with the detailed, analytical arguments to support their economic conservative views. If you haven’t read him, you should.
If the state should betray me like that, then I think it should be good that the state and I should be enemies.
American Citizen may be killed because Øbama is to be tested by our enimies
We must keep him out of the White House.
It’s possible that Barack Hitler Obama will feel the need to compensate for his feelings of inadequacy by recklessly causing another war.
It should have never gotten this far. The Republican party was asleep at the wheel.
last i heard this crisis will be january 21 or 22nd, or at least that it could be( a on another thread ). so my thoughts were that there would be riots, including muslims in our country (nation of islam) and this would bring in the muslims from the middle east in to the equation. obama will insist on martial law. this will need support because most of will think WHOA! obama will then reason that this anger is directed at the system which has let them down. he will blame years of economic injustice toward blacks and minorities. this will allow him to usher in his marxism and wealth redistribution, claiming it will bring peace and stability to our troubled times. as for privacy, we will have very little. the internet will be loaded with snitches who report any dissenting thoughts. consitition will no longer be a “negative” but reinterpreted in a “positive” way. we will no longer be FREE.
Never read Hayek but do listen to Charles Kurault and today he said something very odd which this article puts in perfect context: He said that Biden has been talking about Foreign Policy lately as if he was living in a Fantasy world, or on another planet, and for a man with all the years of Foreign Policy experience he has, that is remarkable..
I see his point now..Which makes the scene even scarier- a Pres candidate who knows zip about foreign policy coupled with a Foreigh Policy chairman/so-called expert who has such screwy ideas about how foreign policy works...In other words, 2 very incompetent people that millions of Americans are willing to turn over the reigns of government to simply because they do not have the time or inclination to study the truth about Biden or Obama..Kissinger used to use the word RealPolitik which goes back to the 1700s-1800s but it basically means tough diplomacy and recognizing real, not imaginary facts..Biden has no clue, nor does Obama...RealPolitik is hardball...Obama wants to take the USA back to a non-interventionist,neutral state, except in the case of a certain continent, and he would abandon the Realpolitik- as Pelosi, Reid, and the other dimRATS have already done...thus a weak nation is indeed on the road to serfdom and slavery to political masters...
No. What you left out was Biden’s comment about military capability.
“We do not have the military capacity, nor have we ever, quite frankly, in the last 20 years, to dictate outcomes,” he cautioned. “It’s so much more important than that. It’s so much more complicated than that. And Barack gets it.”
Obama and Biden are not planning to engineer a crisis to justify centralized authority - they are planning to surrender in advance.
Biden knows Barak will not be popular when he responds weakly to an attack against American interests. Hence, Biden urged the donors to stick with Barak even when he is down in the polls etc.
