Gun Sales and the Election
WBTV ^ | Oct 30, 2008 | NA

Charlotte, NC (WBTV)- "They're worried about it...worried about their second amendment rights." Larry Hyatt of Hyatts Gun Shop told WBTV's Rob Tufano

Usually this time of the year Larry Hyatt's gun sales pretty much consist of hunting weapons but the last few months most of his customers have been grabbing up pistols and military type weapons.

"They're buying self defense guns and military type guns because they feel like they'll be the first one's to have anti gun legislation passed on them."

He wouldn't call his customers panicked just concerned that if Senator Obama wins the White House and Democrats continue to control the House and Senate they're second amendment rights may be scaled back why this cause for concern?

"They NRA has put out a lot of info"

They have also hit the air with these blistering commercials that claim Obama supports banning shotguns and rifles used by hunters.

Nonsense according to the Seanators website which says the Obama respects the second amendment will protect the rights of hunters and other law abiding Americans to purchase own and use guns.

The Senator does support reinstating the ban on assault weapons and closing what he calls a loophole that lets people buy pistols at gunshows without thorough background checks but most a lot of Hyatt's customers don't buy what they call the rhetoric a lot of them convinced an Obama Presidency just may be the start of that slippery slope to abolishing the second amendment.

As soon as I acquire all of the weapons I plan on buying, I'm going to "sell them all at a gun show for cash" soon after. /wink

I just picked up a Baretta Storm in .40 S&W. I think I'll sell it at a gun show, too.

Nobody. I did see some killer deals in the Pakistan frontier last time I was there. Russian 5.56mm NATO go figure.

They will not take your guns from you. too risky.

Instead, their stealth maneuver will be to tax the ammo - will have same effect and they will not blamed for violating second amendment.

How much ammo will you buy if the tax is say $5 per shell.

Stock up now.

“I see Grannys stocking up on ammo”

What concerns me is the more aggressive measures that the Obama will take. He’s talking about a civilian defense force that is as big and well funded as our military.

I would not be suprised if he enlists a hoard of “brown shirts” from the inner cities of the blue states to help him enforce his “mandates”, which would likely include door-to-door illegal gun and ammo checks nation wide.

This would surely launch a civil war in this country, which is what the marxists want.

BLOAT

Does anyone here have any experience with the Sig Sauer P220 Compact SAS? I was waiting for my truck to pass inspection and found an article about in the shop's waiting room. I liked what I read, but don't like the price. I do like the quality of the Sigs I've shot other than the P230. It bites me every time I shoot it.

It’s still unclear who will be sworn in January 20.
Next Wednesday, either there will be a big sigh of relief and sales will plummet, or stores will be empty by the end of the week.

Here is a pic of training the anticipated Barack Hussein Obama "civilian defense force".

Good price for that police carbine.

I thought so too. They had 5 left and debated getting two but didn't. I may just go back and get another today.

“They’re buying self defense guns and military type guns because they feel like they’ll be the first one’s to have anti gun legislation passed on them.”

I’m 44 years old. I have never owned a gun in my life, I’m not anti-gun (spent 8 years in the Army) but never saw a reason to own one. But obama scares me and if he wins (God forbid) I think I’ll need one.

So you folks out there in-the-know about guns, What do you think would be my best choice for home defense without going overboard?

I would.

I'm going to probably pick up another SKS or AK-47 this weekend.

For strictly in-home defense, a 12 gauge pump shotgun from Remington, Mossberg, or Winchester fits the bill. If you want something for a little farther out, an AR-15 carbine in 5.56mm(aka M4gery) from any of the major AR manufacturers works. If you really feel the need to engage from a distance, anything in .308 (FAL, AR-10, et al)will work.

Handguns are last resort. Or to buy you time to get to a real gun.

Well, I for one am going out at lunch today and buying another 3,000 rounds of .223. If the zero wins I expect it to at least double in price in another year or two. Ammo will be the new hot commodity, they ought to base the dollar on it.

Great choice. I started buying SKS when you could find them every where for about $125. It's due to the SKS that I actually have the bulk of my ammo in 7.62x39. That was the only reason I hesitated on the .223 - new caliber. But I partly bought the 7615P hoping that prices on .223 ammo will drop (some time) to where it was a few years ago. If not, the 7615P will just have to fill a different niche :-)

Anyone know how many rounds of 22. LR I should keep on hand?

It’s cheap right now (less than 3 cents a round) and I’m considering buying two more bricks (550 rounds a brick) for my ruger 10/22 carbine.

Nobody wants to be the only one on the block that doesn’t turn in a banned weapon.

Unlike the 1994 ban, I fear they will do it 'right' this time.

Which may include a retro-active ban to 1 January, 2009. How long are 4473's retained? Buy now.

Be careful...selling more than X number of firearms in Y number of months may require an FFL...and they’ll take a dim view of it if you don’t have one.

You can pick up a Yugo SKS for pretty cheap right now...

They're going up. And the ones from other nations have chrome lined barrels.
