Redstate.com: Obama wants to reshape the agriculture industry

Below, Moe writes on some shocking statements by Barack Obama about "bankrupting the coal industry" in order to address global warming.

Obama has it in for another industry: agriculture. Check out these statements from an interview he gave with Time's Joe Klein:

As a consequence, our agriculture sector actually is contributing more greenhouse gases than our transportation sector. And in the mean time, it's creating monocultures that are vulnerable to national security threats, are now vulnerable to sky-high food prices or crashes in food prices, huge swings in commodity prices, and are partly responsible for the explosion in our healthcare costs because they're contributing to type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease, obesity, all the things that are driving our huge explosion in healthcare costs. That's just one sector of the economy.

He is blaming our agriculture policy for global warming, obesity, stroke, heart disease, etc.

If he is willing to "bankrupt" the coal industry over global warming, what's he going to do to the agriculture sector which "actually is contributing more greenhouse gases than our transportation sector"?

“he is beyond naive if he thinks he can get legislation passed which will bankrupt or harm coal producers or farmers.”

Oh yeah, the Farm Lobby will go balls to the wall to kill any legislation harmful to agriculture.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic. If you weren’t, you are correct.

Obama is ignorant.

Not really. It's about the money -- charges on those greenhouse gases (agriculture, coal industry, etc.) = cap and trade, carbon credits, and a thriving market for his backers.

Way back in the distant year 2000, the Joyce Foundation of Chicago, with Barack Obama on the Board of Directors, announced:

"The third Millennium Initiatives grant, a one-year award of $347,000, will go to the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University to help fund the design of the first U.S. market for the trading of carbon emissions. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are believed to be causing climate changes such as global warming that threaten the stability of the earth's environment."

From that initial grant grew the Chicago Climate Exchange, and....

"In the spring of 2006, well before he launched his presidential campaign, Sen. Barack Obama delivered a keynote address on climate change at the Associated Press' Annual Luncheon in Chicago. Among a myriad of potential remedies for America’s dependence on fossil fuels, the Illinois senator made sure to highlight the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), a local institution that had only been in operation for three years. “To deal directly with climate change, something we failed to do in the last energy bill, we should use a market-based strategy that gradually reduces harmful emissions in the most economical way,” he said. “Right here in Chicago, the Chicago Climate Exchange is already running a legally binding greenhouse gas trading system.”
The name check was gratifying for leaders of the burgeoning CCX, many of whom had spent the market’s early days trying to establish its legitimacy in both environmental and financial circles.
Although balancing the demands of both greens and venture capitalists is tricky -- and the exchange has generated plenty of criticism from the two camps -- the CCX has undergone serious growth in five short years and has solidified its role as the nation’s premiere carbon trading market. Now, with politicians and environmentalists clamoring for increased carbon regulation, it’s well situated to become a crucial player on the national stage."

Indeed.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can,” Obama said. “It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

Like so many other ignorant liberals, including most college professors, Obama doesn’t know the facts about greenhouse gases. First, they occur naturally in the atmosphere, and without them the earth would be too cold for humans. A major greenhouse gas is water vapor. Carbon dioxide, despite all the noise made by liberal morons, is only present in trace amounts. A recent estimate is less than 400 parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Obama’s plan is to make the United States even more dependent on foreign oil, much of which comes from countries which are unfriendly to the U.S. -— countries such as Iran, Russia, and Venezuela. By crippling the generation of electricity using coal, opposing nuclear generation, making war against capitalism, instigating class warfare, and increasing taxes for almost all of us, Obama would push the U.S. into a deep, long-lasting economic depression. In short, he seeks to wreck our economy.

Then he would seek and likely get vast new extraordinary powers, become the new socialist dictator of Amerika.

I just finished a book about Mao’s Great Leap Forward that resulted in 20,000,000 - 40,000,000+ deaths from starvation within two years.

Stalin's collectivation of the farms resulted in about 20,000,000 deaths too. USSR's population was about 20% of that of China. So by comparison, a much larger percent of Ruskies died of starvation than the chinese.

WHERE THE F&$# IS THE GOP OPPOSITION REASEARCH???

The problem is, of course, that for opposition research to be effective, one needs a media outlet to disseminate the information....

Thanks neverdem. I'm almost positive this is the last of the off-list-topic pings, my apologies all.

Agriculture causes global warming? Like for example, maybe Al Gore's family's business, tobacco growing?

Type II diabetes obviously has nothing to do with baby bottles full of cola and piles of candy bars -- just as deep fat and overcooked vegetables and meats have nothing to do with stroke, heart disease, and obesity.

Be sure to check your tire pressure.

He's promising far more than anyone could ever deliver and all but his most avid his supporters will be enraged at him within a year.

There may be lots of Hussein voters with buyers' remorse after they learn the truth about this slickster they elected (If he gets elected).

We can't let up on exposing Hussein for what he is. Drive his approvals to zero.

It makes all the sense in the world, that he’d be for something like this.

Radical environmentalism was a huge trend in Nazi Europe. It got reinvented by the marxists in the US and Europe to fit their end goals. Those goals centered around paralyzing US and western European industry and food production capability much more than any real efforts to actually protect environments.

The binding thread of current eco-totalitarianism is now more concerned with punishing humanity, and in the more extreme elements of the movement, to radically reduce human population across the globe.

There is nothing about Obama’s mindset that is not tied directly to the totalitarian philosophical feces and blood that flowed out of the ruptured anus of Europe throughout the later 19th and early 20th centuries.

The entire Kyoto bull***t was never designed to be anything other than a massive redistribution program that dismantled industrial/economic capacity in “the West” and force the West to also finance its reconstruction in “non-aligned states”.

One safe bet is, that if Obama is allowed to scam his way into office, and is backed by a filibuster proofed DNC majority, we will sign Kyoto, and you, me and all the rest, will pay through the nose in carbon taxes. And those payments will be exacted by whatever force the gov deems necessary to “save the earth” from a non-existent threat that was invented out of whole-cloth by agitpropers posing as scientists.

He has also happily accepted the endorsement of HSUS. The so-called “Humane Society of the US” has no connection to the fine local humane societies that protect unfortunate animals; instead this is an enormously rich organization that does nothing for individual animals but instead works to prevent meat consumption, farming involving animals, sport involving animals, or fishing. The president of the HSUS has stated clearly and publicly that he advocates a “petless, meatless society.” They are an animal rights outfit, not an animal welfare organization—there’s a very big difference.

So, let’s review the bidding. Obama wants to punish agriculture, and he doesn’t want you to eat animals either. What are we supposed to eat exactly, Lord Obama? Soylent Green?
