Vanities used to be well thought out, researched and/or funny and somewhat rare. Now the vanities consist of whatever crap pops in someone's head and they are drowning out whatever news is being posted.
I'm not the forum police, but please add you're rant, joke or pearl of wisdom to an ongoing thread.
We see a world where our freedoms are eroding, where so many of us feel our voices aren’t heard, and you’re telling people to shut up. Were it up to you, unless you are linking to a news story that half of us heard an hour ago, you should keep your mouth shut. The free flow of ideas is what democracy is about. You have the option not to listen (or read as the case may be). I’ll grant most of the vanities are exactly that and from someone who would like some validation——so what. With what we just went through, it’s understandable.
Some vanities have worthwhile thoughts in them, but you would throw away the wheat with the chaff. There are a lot of new people on FreeRepublic due to the recent buying of the Presidency; give them a chance to fit in. Dictitorial edicts such as yours belong on the Daily Kos or the Dummy underground.
Were Thomas Paine alive today, he would be posting Vanities and you would want to stifle him.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO READ THE VANITIES, but it might not hurt you to read them.
At least put them in chat, then they’re easily filtered out of the news of one chooses to do so.

The recent vanity posts (excluding the Trolls) are good for Freepers. We’ve been so involved in concentrating on the conservative news reports for the past couple of months or so, and with the outcome of this past election, Freepers needed to vent, encourage, discourage, support, babble..............
The beauty of Free Republic (especially for you, kristinn) is that you can just ignore and not click on the vanities if you don’t feel like reading them. It’s not as if you are being forced to read the threads.
So, relax, be thankful that despite the outcome of this election, we don’t live in Siberia, and we still enjoy freedoms many across the globe do not have. I know. I know. With Obama in office, we’ll lose more liberty. Well, we may, but I’m praying and being grateful. My grandparents on one side of the family immigrated (legally) to this country many many years ago. They never returned to their homeland. Not even for a visit, and for good reason.
By the way, if you haven’t noticed....I took kristinn’s advice and used this thread to post a mini-vanity here. :^)
90% of all media are either looney lefties or often pussies from the so-called right that often quickly escape conservative principles.
I actually enjoy some of the vanity posts here because they reflect better true conservative principles.
As the fairness doctrin grows from the axis of stupidity (Pelosi, Reid and Obama) we will see even less true conservative information reported.
We don't need more censorship. We need less
I would like to see Vanity in all caps automatically inserted in front of the headline on any vanity to help us avoid them.
One thing you need to do, to get back to substantive posting, is learn the difference between “your” and “you’re.” Be clear, concise and educated in your posts, then they won’t look vain.
‘round these parts we usually end posts like that in “/s”. Or maybe you weren’t kidding. Who knows... based on your join date.

How about a 24 hour ban on posting anything about Democrats too? A day with just car chases, rescuing animals, etc.... :’)
If I wanted to read news articles all day there are twenty million sites that I could go to.

You guys are becoming like grouchy & lame radio talk show hosts (B. Suits, M. Savage, etc.) that act arrogant and above all the “rif-raf” that call their shows (the “rif-raf” is the audience that pays the hosts salary). It’s a real let-down as a LISTENER. If the listener could express his ideas as well as the host THEY’D HAVE THEIR OWN SHOW! Give ‘em a break. Sometimes the idea is good but the delivery is horrible.
Note: R. Limbaugh treats his callers great, by-and-large — and he’s a true artist when it comes to handling the one’s that attack him — can you say: 15-20 million listeners per week? With quite a few other hosts you’re left wondering if they’re arrogant a-holes and why am I listening to this guy?
Anyway, I don’t know Jim or his staff but I think it’s a wise move to stem the vanity attacks.
If you’ve been here a while and know the score then perhaps try offering up VERY POLITE instruction on how to make the post/vanity better each time a lame one is thrown up.
If you put emphasis on quality then many will wait for more important things to post — knowing that a critique is to follow if they don’t mind there P’s and Q’s.
I’ve seen this in other forums and it seems to work pretty well for them.
My one cent. (I’m saving-up for 0bama’s paycheck culling)
