Why not a new contract with America?
Myself ^ | Nov 6 2008 | Nateman

Posted on 11/06/2008 3:55:21 AM PST by Nateman

I knew this country was in trouble after McCain won the California primary , but I also had great hopes after Republicans got control of the congress under Clinton. They kept the promises of their contract then dropped the ball and went back to pork as usual. Why not a new contract that fixes the problem at its source: federal spending?

Imagine Republicans getting together at all levels, state and federal, and hammering out a proposed constitutional amendment which freezes the budget until it is balanced then keeps the budget frozen until income tax can be limited forevermore to some fixed amount? (I like 0 % myself, which it was for the first century ) Imagine putting that and other fiscal restrictions and so on in writing (unfounded mandates comes to mind). All these would be office holders then sign it, pledging that if elected this is what they would enact . I think it would become a huge rallying force that would not only throw the RATS out but make it much harder for them to buy the votes of our enemies in the future. (Should, heaven forbid!, they ever get power again.)

Other changes could be debated too but get it all out there in writing so it becomes a national referendum. The great thing about this is a president can do squat about it. Such things are within the power of Congress and the State houses alone. It would not only get control of the House but eventually the Senate if the RATS kept fighting it, and I have no doubt they would do so.

Need someone like Newt who can articulate conservatism. Don’t see anyone like that.

Mike Pence.

"Rush said yesterday that the strategy will take some time to develop, but he’ll begin naming names in the process, i.e. targets. My thoughts."

I heard Rush too and it's not really in opposition to him.I believe my plan will work because a similar plan worked before and it would take out , once and for all , the cancer that is killing this Republic!

If anyone had a GOOD plan for this time around, it too was ignored.

Conservatives were swindled this cycle.

Above I said,”I really wish to click up for this story, many times.”. This was intended as a show of my enthusiastic support for this overdue idea.

If voting up and down is considered,I think it should be one per person,to get a valid picture of what folks are thinking.

Certainly, only folks who are signed in would be able to do this.

I also suggest a waiting period before voting is enabled for new members.

Perhaps after 30 days and 10 comments, for example.

My intent here is to prevent meddling from the Kossacks,Dhummies and HuffingPuffing fools.

Keep the faith,as always.

This needs to happen. For all the snide remarks about how the Contract with America didn’t work, I suggest you read Major Garrett’s book “The Enduring Revolution”. He recounts the sweeping political shift and its lasting positive contribution to our nation... even 14 years later.

Time for a new contract...

you still need more specifics. The biggest problem is that most Americans just don’t care about the constitution anymore.

The potential candidates would work that out at some kind of convention. The left would get so enraged that their venom alone would get people interested.

More than half the people want the government to take care of them. The rest want the government to just leave them alone.

Here in Liberaland (California) almost all the spending measures on the ballot FAILED . There is hope and its not the false Obamessiah kind.

>>>Another unread vanity post.

Another attempt to suppress free speech?

I can understand the need and desire to keep the breaking news category free of vanity posts. But this post is about Activism, and appears to me to be properly categorized.

Maybe you should start a vanity on the difference between a news thread and an opinion thread instead of denigrating ones like this as if it didn’t even matter by calling it a vanity.

Maybe you could offer some suggestions that encourage free speech such as this, while at the same time preserve your precious news list integrity. Maybe we could start by separating News/Activism into their own categories.

I’m sorry, but posts like yours kinda piss me off.

They promised it would be tiny it order to pass it but it has been like a cancerous growth on this great nation

Yep, and the backers of the 16th Amendment also said at the time that it would only affect "rich people". Taxes are certainly a necessary evil to provide funding for the gubmint. However, the cancer started when the gubmint started using the tax system to control behavior. It really got bad when they convinced a majority that taxing corporations and the movement of capital was a good idea in a Capitalist system. It's beyond out of control now. People can argue income tax rates until they are blue in the face, but when you add up all the other taxes, FICA, Medicare, property taxes, tangible taxes, telephone taxes, etc., as I have done, my real tax rate is more like 56% of my gross income.

It's really sad when a "former" Communist country like Russia has a flat tax and we here in a "free" country have a "progressive" tax system exactly as it is laid out in the Communist Manifesto....again, I fault the gubmint skools and a complete and utter lack of historical perspective amongst the majority of the populace. We need only look as far as last Tuesday to see the depths of the ignorance......

CONTRACTS???... hell no.... TEACH PRINCIPLES!

The very debate this brings would in itself become a way of getting Americans to learn. I sure don't trust the indoctrination camps (public schools) of ever getting it right.

You mean the GOP would actually comeupwith ideas! That would be almost impossible. How can they claimtohav new ideas when they never did anything about the old ones. The anger on this board plainly shows that we have been duped and it is disgusting to see what little was accomplished during the last 8 yeas of Republican dominance.

They have to do something like this. You know be responsive to majority of the people in this country.Come p with a platform that is right for the time and we can support with passion.

But on the other hand we ju st lost every state North of the Ohio river and east of the Missouri river. people here think all they need to do to get back into power is live up to the conservatism of small town America and the south. that is a ticket to suicide. The party has got to become responsive to a majority of the people including its on middle class conservative base..

It would be portrayed as the “politics of the past.” We need more than just gimmicks. We need new personalities.

BINGO! It's not the message, it's the messenger.

When I tried posting something like this years ago I got 3 comments. Some things just have to wait until the time is ripe.

>>>I sure don’t trust the indoctrination camps (public schools) of ever getting it right.

Interesting you bring that up.

Do you think public schools would allow a return to principles? Hell no.

Where did education begin in America? public schools? or Church?

This is all about the systematic replacement of the Church by Government. We will obviously not be able to do this in the public schools. It will basically be a battle over our freedom to have private schools, because in order to regain the educating edge in America, we have to be able to COMPETE with the public school system.... not take it over.

The Constitution is the only “contract with American” that any political party needs to succeed. The ‘Pubbies should try adhering to the “original Contract with America” and all would be well.....

Why not both? Adhere to the Constitution, and put forth a new contract of laudable goals to pass.

You mean the GOP would actually come up with ideas!

Its hard for the GOP to deny access to the loot when the RATS offer it so freely. This helps put an end to that.

It is my firm belief that the income tax was 180 degrees out of phase with the rest of the constitution and that the horrible outcome of our election is the natural end of such a fundamental flaw. It has been in effect almost 100 years and cannot be eliminated overnight, but the overall effect of this plan would attack the problem right at its source.
