Obama wants forced labor for school children
Office of the President-Elect ^ | 11-05-08 | Office of the President-Elect

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

My parents forced me to go to church as a child and I’m the better for it. Is it a good idea for government to do the same?

The basis of your argument is utterly without merit.

You're right. It is wrong for the Federal Government to REQUIRE community service from citizens at all, unless it is associated with the penal system.

See post # 141:

The clear goal of any Marxist/Socialst plan is to turn the Government INTO A PENAL SYSTEM itself, of which you have no choice but to serve. That is the only way the system as a whole can make it's own ends meet.

Please explain how forced servitude will build a child’s self esteem.

That is exactly what they have in mind Slapshot. And don’t think they don’ know what they are doing.

Another example of why the Obama administration is in for a rude awakening. The only “change” the voters wanted was more freebies or, at least, a stabilization of the economy and rapid return to economic growth. People are concerned about their jobs, their mortgages, their savings, their retirement.

Obama was elected because millions of swing voters were terrified enough about the future to vote for Obama after going Bush in 2000 and 2004. People don’t want to be sent to reeducation camps or other “change the world nonsense. They want the good times back. If this is the sort of BS Obama has in mind he is going to destroy himself pretty quick.

If people would only reconnect with the Constitution, they wouldn't need to worry about Obama's Constitution-ignoring community service plans. In fact, enforcement of the Constitution Obama would essentially make Obama a lame duck president.

The truth of Obama's community service plan is that not only does the Constitution not authorize the feds to run such programs, but the 13th Amendment prohibits involuntary servitude.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm beginning to think that G-d is allowing constitutionally clueless Obama to run the country so that the people will rediscover the Constitution. Then the people will be able to protect themselves from Obama Socialism.

I am a life long Reagan Conservative, and even I

Even a Reagan Conservative? You gave yourself away in the first sentence. You must be new. In your reply be sure to use the words "lockstep" and "propaganda."

“We” here at FR didn’t nominate McCain. Rinos, democrats and independents did.

“We” did try to defeat Obama by voting for McCain/Palin. Rest assured if McCain had won and tried to push this crap, it would have been opposed to most long term Freepers just as Bush/McCain amnesty was.

Sorry, Barry. After 28 years in the US Navy, I’m retired.

Sorry, Pabiance. You want to get that retirement check certified so you can cash it?

Do your 100 hours of "community service" like a man and stop shirking. When you're finished and filled those squares, we'll authorize it and send it!

P.S. - The same will go for your Social Security check...

The point you may be missing is that they don’t want the government to control their lives, they want government to control other people’s lives.

They just haven’t made the link that a government with that kind of power will eventually turn on them. Liberals can’t link.

Well said. And it’s backed up by the strong opposition we had in word and deed to a number of Bush’s moves. Immigration reform, Harriet Meirs, etc.

"An important note is how this will be done. For years, whenever the federal government adds requirements to local public schools, they do it with the threat of "compliance, or lose your federal aid money."

Fixed. BTW, it's Open House Week at our local parochial and private schools. Christian beliefs, Christian philosophy, Christian teachers.

It is CDE's vision that 50 percent of all districts will include service-learning as part of their regular instructional practice, engaging students in at least one service-learning experience at each grade span (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12).

But this shows it is an option, not a requirement for each district. We've been lucky and always been in somewhat conservative areas. Looks like it's more important than ever that parents investigate the schools and districts before they decide to send their kids there. Same with private schools - so many are no better than public. Silly to give academic credit for public service - just another way to water down academics so kids are too stupid to understand who and what they are voting for.

Homeschooling is by far the best - for yet another reason now. I hope Obama and the other socialists don't take away that right.

Thanks for the link. I'll add it to my list of reasons why my friends should homeschool. (Those that ask me, anyway. ;)

Compulsory volunteerism has nothing to do with coercion?

Please respond with the definitions of compulsory and coercion and explain how they have nothing to do with each other.

The arrogance is astounding, isn’t it? And presumptuous to boot!

Most high schools already have opportunities for volunteerism. My daughter has DECIDED on her own to get involved.

Also, I can imagine no organization wants kids that don’t want to be there. It creates more work for them!

Yep, it's a weak crop come'a cropper. The '00 trolls were much more inventive.

Oh well, they'll be gone in a month, while I'm still sowing 1000+ dissention daily on Daily POS and DUmmie Underground. And believe me, those DUmbasses have the shakes from buyer's remorse already. They fear the 2010 mid-term elections!

Just another jobs creation program for the government.
