Obama wants forced labor for school children
Office of the President-Elect ^ | 11-05-08 | Office of the President-Elect

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

I think the only thing more important to Obama than his party is his agenda here on earth.

I think community service is good for our youth. If you don’t require them to do it, they won’t. Besides, it will build their self esteem.

The fact that you think so is sort of irrelevant, isn't it ?After all, no one is stopping you from having your own children do this.

Who gave the state, federal or local government the right to make this decision for other people's children?

I’d forgotten that with the administrators picking the ‘acceptable’ places to volunteer, the lib agenda will be all over this mandatory volunteering. Of course, volunteering in conservative causes won’t be allowed!

There is already so much liberal brainwashing in the schools (I know first hand - having gotten a teaching credential). I starts in universities where the so-called education classes are nothing more than indoctrination techniques.

Their mission has fled so far from academics, that now they are trying to give credits to children for nonacademic work to help them graduate.

America truly has been dumbed down, to be so accepting of this bold grab for power over a child’s social and civic training.

Can you imagine a parents from the 50's with a child in school in the 50's putting up with this for one second? With a stable family structure at home, mom home and aware of what's going on each day with each kid, the cold war looming and new technologies needing well-schooled kids,, with academics still being the ONLY reason the kids go to school each day and with especially math and science being taught deeply - this sort of 'curriculum' would be a laughingstock.

And today, 'parents' don't bat an eye.

Or are they going to mandate that homeschoolers and private schools also comply?

They're going to adopt the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child and then they're going to make homeschooling illegal. Check out ParentalRights.org .

Under the UNCRC, instead of following due process, government agencies would have the power to override your parental choices at their whim because they determine what is in "the best interest of the child."

In essence, the UNCRC applies the legal status of abusive parents to all parents. This means that the burden of proof falls on the parent to prove to the State that they are good parents—when it should fall upon the State to prove that their investigation is not without cause.

Personally, I'm just praying for my family to be out of the country by then.

California, the last 11 years, for my (now) teens:

Elementary school: you do things for your school and get “extra credit” for it. Not mandatory, but no kid refuses as it’s done as a class. So becomes de facto part of your grade.

Middle School: recommended hours of community service in the immediate community (neighborhood and on campus). Things such as cleaning yards for neighbors who have their yards trashed as students walk to and from school. Awards given to those who serve. Irony Award anyone?

High School: 60 hours (minimum) REQUIRED for graduation. You cannot attend graduation, attend any graduation events, prom is predicated on nearing the 60 hours, and you don’t receive a diploma. This requirement is drilled into the students for the full four years and gets pretty insane for seniors who refuse. This is the best high school in the county where a 4.0 (in tough classes) ranks you 56/500 students making you ineligible for auto UC acceptance, 5% rank rule.

Trust me, it doesn’t encourage what they think. My kids are great and they, like most others, were encouraged to think like a weasel and see how they could get the hours the easiest and fastest way. I do not like how it turned my once charitable giving children into doing it only for the hours.

For those who think I should have put them in private, the private school system here (unless you have 13K per year per child at one good school) is even worse. :-( Homeschooling could not provide the specific education both my kids needed, though I do help homeschool my nephews and wish I could have done the same for mine.

I wonder if the programs will be called the Young Pioneers...

As I've said before on this topic, "Reichsarbeitsdienst". You can be certain Hussein knows exactly what it means.

Sounds like it's been going on a long time in your areas. I've been blissfully ignorant.

I do not like how it turned my once charitable giving children into doing it only for the hours.

That's what 'forced' volunteering will do!

For those who think I should have put them in private, the private school system here (unless you have 13K per year per child at one good school) is even worse. :-( Homeschooling could not provide the specific education both my kids needed, though I do help homeschool my nephews and wish I could have done the same for mine.

I
now wish I had homeschooled my son the entire time. Oh, well. He's been in every type of school environment available. Homeschooling was by far the best, but public school was ahead of the private schools and even a charter school. The best I can do now is help others NOT make the same mistakes.

I hear ya on private schools. Many are no better than public schools, some are even worse. I taught for a short time in an expensive (for our area) private school that touted 'academic excellence'. The reality was anything but. It was all about getting the tuition money and giving out A's in return. Parents were ignorantly happy, until their little darlings went to college and had to take all remedial classes! It's caveat emptor where private schools are concerned.

Sending a child to government school really ought to be considered child abuse. Or are they going to mandate that homeschoolers and private schools also comply? (Or else!)

Of course, how else can they indoctrinate our kids.

They must start at an early age. The younger the better.
