I actually like Moon and his program very much, and I take your point about simple = standing on his principals.

The late support for the tax cuts is possibly a larger question. Was he simply studying the issue or is he truly just a vocal conservative? Jindal may simply need to improve in his communication of his reasons for his actions.

I was in the middle of the Stelly Tax rollback and the Lege Pay Raise issue, lobbying legislators and providing research and communications for our side. Jindal had to be FORCED into the tax cut and the pay raise veto.

I admire your courage in stating what you feel is true. I have a lot of hope for Jindal and read you comments with concern. BTW as an Alaskan I have faced the same vitriol for stating almost the same things about Sarah. I have come the the sad realization the many Freepers will blindly fall lock step into formation behind “the one” just as the socialists do behind their next messiah. Keep on keeping on. Jindal and Palin may be the next best hope for the party but I want a real small government conservative and not another Bush/McCain debacle.

"The tarring begins. First Palin now Jindal."

I might be wrong, but Moon Griffon is right about Jindal.

I don’t think I’m up to date on the downside of this issue...loophole? I may have missed something here.

I thought our jump to 2nd place in the country from a rank of 46th was a positive thing... ?

Back last spring during all the ruckus I posted several threads on the pay raise and tax issue. Do a search using the title JindalWatch and it should bring them up.

To be clear, I like Jindal. I think he’s conservative for the most part. But you can take it to the bank that he’s a Big Government guy. There is a paper trail to prove it.

This is not to say I wouldn’t vote for him and support him for national office in 2012.

But conservatives in general and FReepers in particular need to do the research. It’s all documented.

Jindal made a huge misstep in his very first week in office regarding the congressional pay raise issue. This is a conservative taking issue with him, not the Drive By Media. I personally don’t think Jindal is ready for prime time but he’s head and shoulders above McCain.

Was it the percentage of the pay raise that stuck in everyone’s craw?

Yep, that was the biggest part of it. As you noted, some sort of pay increase *was* merited, given the state's improved financial situation (thanks in no small part to Jindal's work in the House of Representatives, IIRC).

It is exactly this sort of behavior that got us John McCain in the first place. We had a weak field to begin with and we ended up getting rid of the guys just a bit better than him and we ended up with the worst possible candidate outside of Ron Paul.

.....he still isn't Ronald Reagan made over. He is a social conservative but BOBBY JINDAL IS A BIG-GOVERNMENT REPUBLICAN.

Most people on this forum will disagree with you about this since the debacle of the last election (Republicans desperately need a real conservative leader), but you are unfortunately right (so far) about Jindal. He may prove us wrong yet, I really , really hope so.

From what I understand, Griffon is a Romneybot. It fits.

“But apparently you can’t keep away.”

How is that? I have not been in the US for 4 years, and from here in Slovakia, I move to the Philippines in January.

They can disagree all they want. I was in the big middle of the tax and pay raise issue and I know what happened. All the rest of Conservatism needs to do research and get up to speed.

Jindal had to be FORCED into the tax cut and the pay raise veto.

Governing in this republic is the art of compromise. He does need a certain amount of good will from the legislature.

How long has it been since the legislature had a raise? Did it make sense to support the raise? (unfortunately there is no merit raise policy for legislatures).

On the tax cut; where does La. stand in relationship to other states on taxes. A tax cut although almost always a good idea does not necessarily make sense if you are already very competitive and your state has just been hit by a hurricane.

"The tarring begins. First Palin now Jindal. Anybody that’s might be mentioned for 2012 is going to get tarred and feathered before the next election. Get used to it."

The big difference, the GIGANTIC difference between Palin and Jindal, is that Palin is a Conservative, and is being "tarred" as best they can by liberals generally and the liberal media.

Pay close attention now, because this point is important:
Jindal is NOT a Conservative, and it is the true Conservatives in Louisiana who are "tarring" himm!

By doing so, they're doing the rest of us a favor: hopefully, they are helping to stop the "Jindal Express" long before it roars into Washington, and we find ourselves scratching our heads and wondering, "Where did THIS RINO come from?"

I think trimming Rhinos, attacking your best and brightest like Jindal is utterly stupid. Go and hone your message and sell it and quit trying to thin your own ranks, when you should by persuasion be increasing them.
