Berkeley College: Arabs Attack Jewish Students

The attacks on non-Muslims in non-Islamic countries continue to rise. Just a few days ago a Catholic girl was killed in the UK for dating a Muslim. Recent attacks in the US include the Washington attack on a man because he is gay, the Philadelphia subway hammer attack, the attacks at the
hospital in Minneapolis, and the Israeli man attacked by Arabs in NY. The latest attack is on Jewish students watching a concert at a pro-Israel event at Berkeley College. The Jewish students were assaulted, called dogs and threatened with death by up to 20 Arabic students. At then end of it all the Muslims do what they usually do, they played the victim card. One of fights was broken up by a Senator at the school. For this the Muslims are filing a petition to get him removed from the college office.

Arab students disrupted a pro-Israel event at the campus of the University of California at Berkeley Thursday night, unfurling a large Palestinian flag in front of a crowd of hundreds of supporters of Israel who were enjoying a pro-Israel hip-hop concert. The event was sponsored by the Zionist Freedom Alliance student group.

The Arab students unfurled the large flag on a balcony above the outdoor site where the concert was taking place, inciting a provocation right in front of the concert-goers, who were enjoying the event as part of the campus' Israel Liberation Week. Several Jewish concertgoers went into the building to ask the Arabs to remove the flag – but were viciously attacked, with one male concert goer knocked down from a blow on the back of his head, witnesses said.

College alumnus Gabe Weiner, who was helping run the concert, was assaulted by the leader of the anti-Israel group, Husam Zakharia, who also attacked one of the performers, Yehuda De Sa. The fight was finally broken up by John Moghtader, a senator in the UC Berkelely student organization. Police were called in and arrested Zakharia along with others from his group, charging them with battery. Witnesses said that the Arab students shouted anti-Semitic curses and epithets throughout the incident, calling the Jews “Nazis” and “dogs,” and threatening to kill them. According to one witness, as many as 20 anti-Israel students participated in the attacks.

In a statement, the Zionist Freedom Alliance said “we call on state officials, the President of the University of California, the Chancellor, the Dean of Students, faculty, and the student body to take a unified stand against the continued harassment of Jewish and pro-Israel students on this campus, particularly by members of Students for Justice in Palestine,” the anti-Israel group whose leaders began the incitement and attacked the concertgoers.

Pro-Israel students at UC Berkeley have long complained of the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic harassment they have been subject to. Tikvah, a Jewish student group at the college, displayed on its web site numerous examples of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic graffiti, with anti-Israel elements defacing property with their screed. Jewish students complained that the only media coverage given to the event, in the Berkeley campus newspaper, was one sided. “Funny how the battery citation against Husam of SJP isn't even mentioned [in the article], and the comment which purports to be from an objective bystander is actually from one of the top people in Students for Justice in Palestine,” commented Ariel, one of the concertgoers.

Meanwhile, the anti-Israel group is planning to file a petition to remove from office Moghtader, who tried to break up the fight.

If the arab assaulters are known, they should not just be expelled, they should be deported. If some are American citizens, then some jail time with a very large cellmate, preferably a mass murderer, is appropriate.

I emailed a Jewish colleague of mine regarding Obama wanting to return Israeli borders to pre-war status. He sent a scalding email back to me that I was just mad that the government was not going to be run my way and that I was blind to the good that the new President will bring.

Yup, anti semitism is on the rise, especially moreso in Africa and Europe. When I talked to people about the election, they were all rooting for Obama for the sole purpose in their minds that he would “put Isarel in its place” and would give the UN and the ICC more money. The fact he was black was a plus but not the reason why they were rooting for him.

In older times, such behavior would have been resolved without resorting to courts or college administrations. People present at the scene would have resolved it.

Berkeley protesters prevent speech by Netanyahu

The arrests came inside Wheeler Hall, where Students for Justice in Palestine and supporters from around Berkeley held a three-hour sit-in. All but one protester were cited for trespassing and released.

UC Berkeley student Roberto Hernandez, 23, was arrested for biting an officer and booked into Berkeley City Jail for felony assault about 5 p.m. He was released on $5,000 bail a short while later. UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor John Cummins said the university made the arrests because the students were given ample warning about occupying academic buildings.

When it came time for the question and answer period, the group of MSA students all got up together and left, chanting ‘’racist’’ and ‘’Zionist’’ over and over again. However, a few stragglers were left in the audience, and they eventually had to be escorted outside by the police because of their unruly behavior. One of these was the man who had been babbling about Gandhi. By this time he got down to basics, calling Pipes ‘’a racist Jew.’’ Sadly, it took several more of these epithets before he was forcibly removed.

The atmosphere required extensive security — which made me feel that without it I would have been physically hurt at UC Berkeley. The first statement from the Al-Jazeera representative to me was: “You are the most hated woman in the Arab world.” The hatred was also felt from the far leftist American audience.

From noon to about 1 p.m., when the plaza is at its busiest, a group of at least 150 people sat down directly in front of the steps Mario Savio made famous and now bear his name. The demonstration, organized by a number of Jewish student groups, came in the wake of the alleged Oct. 9 beating of Aaron Schwartz by a trio of thugs just off campus. The 23-year-old says he was grabbed and punched after approaching a group of men he claims were mocking him and others celebrating Simchat Torah, taunting them with Nazi salutes and chanting, “Heil Hitler.”

Dear Brothers,

On Saturday night while our entire chapter was out of town at their Fall Formal the house (university owned) was attacked by a Molotov cocktail and set on fire. Luckily passerby’s saw it and quickly called the fire department. The damage was confined to a relatively small area of the front door and front porch. There is smoke damage in the house but it’s livable.

Last week was very tension filled at Emory with “Palestinian Week” and it culminated on Friday with a mock fence set up degrading Israel’s security fence. Tensions were high all week but the week ended and we thought that it was over. Unfortunately, the chapter was called back from their out of town formal to find the fire and it’s remnants.

We have all been in touch with the university president, Greek Life people and security personnel. The undergrads are very shaken by this incident. Luckily we have excellent leadership and we have arranged for security for the next few nights as well until things calm down. Our Epsilon Chapter is the largest on campus and very identified as Jewish. The group numbers more than 100 men and they are not a squeamish bunch by any means.

These “Palestinian Weeks” go from campus to campus across North America - about a half dozen or so a year and cause a varied amount of havoc in their wake. We’ve seen much worse than this in California and Canada but it’s scary certainly anywhere it happens. These groups are sponsored and funded by the MSA “Muslim Student Association” and you can probably guess where their funding comes from.

We had another scare tonight at 7:00 PM at Emory and the police emptied our house. An unidentified book bag was on the porch and the bomb squad was called in. It turned out to be nothing but made the kids even more nervous. I am speaking with them every couple of hours and after the early evening scare all is quiet now. Although this is a university building and I believe they are doing all they can, I expect the phone to start ringing tomorrow morning from parents. We will do our best to assure them that it’s calming down.
