Planned Parenthood Lays Off Staff Over Economy, South Dakota Director Fired

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Americans across the country are hurting due to the poor economy, but, for pro-life advocates, there is a silver lining. A Planned Parenthood affiliate has announced that the abortion business will lay off 10 employees covering nine and a half positions including its South Dakota director.

Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota said hard economic times forced the layoffs.

That includes South Dakota director Kate Looby, who confirmed to AP that she will be fired form her position.

Lobby has overseen the lone South Dakota abortion business, run by Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, since 2003 and has been a thorn in the side of pro-life advocates who have tried twice to get voters to approve an abortion ban.

AP quotes Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Kathi Di Nicola who said the abortion business fired employees whose positions had more to do with public relations and lobbying as opposed to staff at the abortion centers themselves.

That could mean less of a pro-abortion lobbying presence in the three states during the upcoming legislative sessions.

Other positions were cut in Minnesota and Di Nicola indicated none of the Planned Parenthood abortion centers or facilities, including those in Sioux Falls and Rapid City, would close.

The news of the layoffs comes one day after the South Dakota health department announced that abortions declined 5.5 percent from 2006 to 2007. http://www.lifenews.com/state3679.html

Abortions declined to 707 in 2007 after there were 748 in 2006 -- and both are down from the 805 abortions performed in 2005. Abortions done on South Dakota residents decreased 3.8 percent, going from 633 in 2006 to 609 in 2007, according to the new figures from the South Dakota Department of Health.

That means 98 abortions were done on out-of-state residents at the state's lone abortion business, run by Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls. Looking at the numbers further, 54 Minnesota residents, 31 residents of Iowa and 13 residents of other states went to South Dakota for abortions.

“...the abortion business fired employees whose positions had more to do with public relations and lobbying as opposed to staff at the abortion centers themselves.”

Abortions will still be performed. We just won’t hear the lobbyist mouthpieces whining that only 500 babies were killed a day and they have not met their goal of 1,000 babies killed a day...so send more Federal funding via taxpayer dollars and private contributions! :(

Then this is the time to start really hitting them hard, hard, hard. When resources are down and staff is thin, it is much harder to fight back. What are the legs that keep this thing walking? Time to take ‘em out. Is it true that Susan Koman’s breast cancer events donate a certain amount of money to planned parenthood? There was a story on here awhile back that I believe did make a connection. I feel that is one place to shine a light on that money going to such an organization if it is true. Regarding the article. That is great news.

How long before we seen abortionists walking South Dakota's streets carrying signs that say “will kill babies for food”...?

I do want to honor by the way all the great work pro life folks have made in making a dent in planned parenthood’s activities and in general working to shift the acceptability regarding abortion to not so accepting. My post sounded a bit simplistic when I know for years people have been donating much of their time and even money to taking out the legs of this monster. I guess I wanted to suggest a renewed let’s go get ‘em attitude. But I know it is taking time and will take time.

It won’t matter. They will get federal funding from the new government. Each and every one of us will be paying for the murder of someone’s child.

By the way, what will we do when it gets to that point where we are paying for abortion with our taxes? The supreme court will not overturn it, so what will we have left besides the choice of participating in evil, going to jail, or having to leave the country?

This bothers me to no end and I cannot bear the thought of it. I would be willing to march on the Capitol and the Supreme Court over this one.
