SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - December 8, 2008 (OWSweather.com) Rare 50 year Arctic Blast Sets Sights On Southern California.

With a week away, and a sure sign of things to come, OWSweather.com is making preparations on the server to handle the traffic from this next event. UJEAS is in line with the majority if not all the other models in keeping a near historical arctic air mass into the Southern California region.

With a warm November, Southern California is finally ready for cold storms to make their way in. Resort level snow will be likely next week, and in pretty hefty amounts if things stay on track. OWSweather.com Meteorologist Kevin Martin predicts a 50 year event. While Martin is usually conservative on these events, the pattern highly favors it.

"We are in a pre-1950 type pattern, "said Martin. "We know we are due for a winter storm sometime this year. The type we may be dealing with will be ranked up there with the known years before 1950, which set record low daytime temperatures into the forecast region. With this, may come low elevation snow."

Nothing shuts them up. Gore is in a meeting with Obama and Biden this morning and then are supposed to have a press conference... short of the entire country being under ice they will keep trying to pass this scam off on the world.

Kevin Martin says he has proof to shut Gore down nationally. He is not posting it on his site because it may target him.

Forecast low for Sunday night up here is around 15F. We can handle that. I wonder if there’s been some moderation to the synoptic picture.

What’s coming behind it? Look at the air charts on Sunday.

Why would anybody that lives in the desert be tired of 75 degree days. I say BOOOOOO to this cold front. I want another 84 degree Christmas in Tucson, that’s good weather.

As of right now early Monday morning is predicted to be the coldest here in the Columbia Basin, with slow warming to follow. I am already looking forward to the slow warming even if it is only a degree or three.

Global warming is a lie! Here in Watertown N.Y. we hit -16 degrees on Sunday night, and that was not the wind chill!

Yes, mostly Sun-Mon as the wind comes up after the snow ends. They don’t give a number; just “very low”. This isn’t a factor for freeze planning, except that things cool down to ambient temp faster.

Cool down to ambient temp faster and ... stay frozen longer.

Dallas is a tool. Not even mentioning it. Kevin Martin is all over the media today on this call. I believe in him.

I remember that, too. It was just a slight bit of slowflake action where I was down on Honolulu Avenue...

I lived on Montrose Ave. back then, between Rosemont and La Crescenta Avenues, across the street from the churches. In my 15 years in Southern California it was the only snow I saw outside the actual mountains themselves.

It was so unusual that when my girlfriend and I went into Pasadena that evening to eat, I tried snails for the first time. I never saw snow in La Crescenta again, but I ate snails a lot after that.

Every pool that hadn't run a pump overnight had two inches of ice, the pump frozen, and other problems that could only be detected later (when you could thaw things out and get things primed again).

Aha! Thanks, budwiesest!!!
