The Republican Party paid a steep price for race-baiting in the presidential campaign. Remember the ferocious backlash against the California Republican group that produced a racist newsletter depicting Barack Obama on a food stamp, surrounded by images of fried chicken and watermelon?
Then there were those two congressmen who were rightly excoriated for condemning Mr. Obamas candidacy in the language of the Jim Crow South one describing him as a boy and the other as uppity.
We thought after all that and, oh yes, losing the election everyone in the Republican Party leadership would have figured out that race-baiting alienates young, minority and all reasonable voters.
Clearly, not everyone has.
Chip Saltsman, a veteran political operative, is pushing his candidacy for chairman of the Republican National Committee. He distributed a compact disc containing a parody questioning President-elect Barack Obamas racial authenticity.
The song entitled Barack the Magic Negro by a writer often heard on the Rush Limbaugh radio show, has split the Republican leadership. One faction thinks the parody is just fine and seems prepared to defend it to the death. The other is condemning it and shuddering at its political consequences.

Considering Barry’s exhibitionist behavior in Hawaii the past two weeks
and the MSM’s focus on his body parts,
Shanklin should retitle his parody-Barack the Magic Nipple.
“The Editors” are showing themselves to be of ill temper.
If the GOP had greater access to the hearts and minds of the masses and knew how to use it to counter the efforts of the demonrats and the msm, things might be different, but they don't have a clue or know where to find one.
If anyone can instruct the Republicans on basic media savvy and sales psychology, please, for the sake of the Republic and all it stands for, help them!
>>>”...but then nobody ever expects the Times to rise to the excellence in journalism that Fox news regularly attains...”<<<
No one expects the New York Times to rise to the level of excellence of the Rogue Community College “Byline” in Grants Pass, Oregon: http://clubs.roguecc.edu/Byline/
The first thing the party -- and conservatives -- need to recognize is that the MSM is a sworn enemy. They will never be "on our side".
Thus, the party (and conservatives) should feel free to openly attack the MSM in turn. And ignore its propaganda.
It's not a question of "handling the media". It's a matter of recognizing the media as an adversary and joining battle with them.
On our side is the public's opinion of the media -- rating them one step lower than lawyers. Let's use it to our advantage. Run against the media.
Precisely!!!
Here's a clue: They aren't. It's only a big deal in PC-ville.
The NYT ownership, on the other hand, might profit by consulting the continuing referendum represented by the Times's continually-declining ad and newsstand sales, and getting a clue that most of America couldn't care less what a bunch of gay New York Times editors think. Or you, Pinchy.
News flash: They invented the "imperial presidency" back in the 50's, when they were waiting impatiently for a chance to push the Republicans and that doddering old Ike out of the way (after all, all he ever did was liberate Europe and destroy the most powerful and hateful military empire the world had ever seen), so they could smooth the way for a young liberal prince like, say, Jack Kennedy.
Richard Nixon took the powers the toadies like James Macgregor Burns and Arthur M. Schlesinger had oohed and aahed over when they were Kennedy's to wield, and shoved up up the liberals' you-know-what. Sideways. Tricky Dick gave everyone a five-year clinic on what happens when you act like a slavish dork and give vast, unaccountable, criminal powers to the Executive.
Nixon was one of our best Presidents for keeping everybody honest and teaching young people a lesson. He made the liberals puke up their own garbage. They're still resisting the lesson and hoping for another Imperial Prince to come and reintroduce them to sweet subservience.
I suspect that all of this can be traced to Soros’ Media Matters:

Latching onto L.A. Times op-ed, Limbaugh sings “Barack, The Magic Negro”
The fact that it is “newsworthy” again, leads me to question the timing of this “controversy”.
The Stalinists in the media are again revising history by pretending that it was Conservatives and not the REVEREND Al Sharpton who coined the term and applied it to BO.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_the_Magic_Negro
That there is a December campaign usage of the song cannot be the sole reason for NATIONAL coverage of the “controversy”.
Oh please, that type of mean spirited personal attack in no way compares to the gentle mocking of Chimpy McBushitler. < /sarc >
Lets expose the Democrats for the racists they are and call Governor Blagojevich to offer praise of his appointment of Roland Burris to fill the seat left empty by Barrack Obama.
