So, what are your plans for the coming debacle?
Vanity | January 18, 2009 | WCF

Posted on 01/18/2009 7:25:44 PM PST by WorkingClassFilth

This thread (if it survives the moderators) is meant to be an end of the Republic commemorative. Bracketed by end of the Julian calendar and the Chinese New year, I thought a repository of comments marking the rise of a new leftist messiah to be sardonic and fitting.

Before any FReepers hit the ABUSE button, please look around youself . . . with kooky vanities about just-the-right-puppy-breeds and the non-stop religious scripts and debates abounding on NEWS/ACTIVISM, I thought a simple question about what conservatives were personally considering doing during the promise of a new age of fascism might be worthwhile.
So, given that we're all of a conservative mindset and that (as adults) we all recognize what the next four years (or decade and beyond) might herald, I ask: What are your plans? Where do you plan to go and what do you plan to do in years of the coming darkness?

Alton is about 40 miles of bad road (but a beautiful drive) west of Doniphan. The only drawback of that area for older people is if you have emergency medical needs you get air-evac helicoptered to West Plains or Springfield.

Let's put it this way. I've been known by quite a few in and around Mtn. Grove, in the Early Modern sense. ;-)

Well you sure have my curiosity going here. As Mtn. Grove is not a place you just happen to drive to or by. It is somewhat off the beaten path. One of my relatives surveyed Wright County many many years ago and is buried in a private cemetery near Mtn. Grove..

If you don't mind telling how do you know Mtn. Grove or how is it you are known in and around Mtn. Grove?

Did you perhaps once stop by the Brandin’ Iron during my younger, more stupid nights, look up at me, and say, “I thought you’d be bigger?” ...didn’t really happen in Jasper, you know. ...or years before then, maybe have a chat with a tall, young man from Texas? ;-)

But then I’m gettin’ kind of old. ;-) It was a nice area to pick blackberries and mushrooms in, though. And because of the Army training and personal change toward conservative ways since then, old friends there wouldn’t recognize me.

We live only about 40 miles from Mtn. Grove, do I need to investigate this for you? :-)

I saw some at Amazon for $19 used. It is a wonderful book, but I couldn’t bring myself to pay that much for it.

Night! I’m going to try to turn in too. Hubby’s snoring has lessened to a dull roar.

No first hand information, just 'tales' from relatives regarding the area.

LOL.... I sure did find out what "Early Modern sense" means now didn't I....

It is a very very pretty area, but has been years since I have been there. The 'tales' I heard as a kid regarding the area sure sounded like mountain men lived there...

BTW, my great-grandfather worked for the Long Bell Lumber Co. (later International Paper) way back when (after the Depression) and chose pine forests around that part of the country for cutting (Missouri and Arkansas). ...reason for so many oak trees there now. :-)

That whole area got hit really bad a couple of years back with an ice storm... mile after mile of broken trees, looked like a war zone.

Nice chatting ... got to get rest .

Been hesitant to bother you since you posted your IRL hassles, but please sign me to the gardening list.

I am interested right now in any advice on Park Seed’s peat seed plugs. They aren’t working for me, at all.

Mtn. Grove area is still pretty but not as isolated now with US 60, a dual highway going right near it. I don’t know if there are still mountain men around now but my forbearers would have qualified, as we have 8 generations in So. Missouri.

Ordered a catalog from Baker Creek around the first of January. I’d order online, but I prefer to send a money order. Call me old fashioned...

Your post prompted me to quit lurking and make this comment. First, be warned, the language here is not pretty, but there is a "Frankenstein" similar to the Echelon or Carnivore projects. Take it for what it's worth, but it's not something I'd put past this new ominstration. I was turned on to this site while the media refused to report any good news about Iraq (while my daughter was over there), and the owner did a fabulous job of reporting, similar to Michael Yon.

To celebrate Tuesday, I'm buying myself a Beretta .45, I believe it's the Px4 model, but it's late and I might have that wrong. I'm excited to get to the range and finally start practicing.

We are buying a generator, and also revamping the fireplace. Currently, it's a waste (we've lived here 13 years and used it 2-3 times. It's old and the heat just gets sucked up the chimney. We're lucky, because we have lots of trees, and still have 3 really crappy cottonwoods that be perfect for burning, plus the normal loss of a branch that's as big as a city tree.

We're on a well, so water won't be a problem, but the generator will come in handy if brown or blackouts occur. We've already learned that coal is eeeevil.... yada yada yada

Like many mentioned on this thread, I'm expanding our tiny patio garden and starting to learn how to can and perhaps get a dehydrator. If I can bake bread from scratch, I'm sure I can learn to can food.

I also am crafty, and am looking for ways to sell my sewing and knitting. We have a local farmers market, but you need to be licensed to particapate, so, a monthly/weekly "farmers market" in my yard might be an option.

We are trying to go "low tech". The less info out there for the enemy to gather, the better. See the above Frankenstein.

We are working on paying off the rest of our bills, and possibly bury gold in our yard (just seeing if you're still awake on that last one...)

On the TV issue, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is an awesome movie site, they play non stop movies and have their lib actor interview now and then. In 2007, we bought a DVR recorder, and my hubby has recorded over 1000 movies (That's not a typo). They range from 1917 to 2008 (the 2008 is a doc on 9-11). I know, I've cataloged them in a database. If you're not into old movies, I suggest you might try them. Especially the pre-code era, but hide the kiddies. The WWII movies are awesome, and there's a ton less PC junk in them. Cary Grant is a favorite of mine. Other than waiting for season 5 of Lost to come out on DVD, I'll continue to ban any liberal TV.

PS. Google has it's MLK graphic up, I can hardly wait for Tuesday's graphic.
