'They say we're too old to care for our grandchildren': Social workers hand brother and sister to gay men for adoption
By GRAHAM GRANT and MARCELLO MEGA 12:16 AM on 28th January 2009
Two young children are to be adopted by a gay couple, despite the protests of their grandparents.
The devastated grandparents were told they would never see the youngsters again unless they dropped their opposition.
The couple, who cannot be named, wanted to give the five-year-old boy and his fouryearold sister a loving home themselves. But they were ruled to be too old - at 46 and 59.
For two years they fought for their rights to care for the children, whose 26-year- old mother is a recovering heroin addict.
They agreed to an adoption only after they faced being financially crippled by legal bills.
The final blow came when they were told the children were going to a gay household, even though several heterosexual couples wanted them.
When the grandfather protested, he was told: 'You can either accept it, and there's a chance you'll see the children twice a year, or you can take that stance and never see them again.'
The man said last night: 'It breaks my heart to think that our grandchildren are being forced to grow up in an environment without a mother figure. We are not prejudiced, but I defy anyone to explain to us how this can be in their best interests.'
Social workers themselves have admitted that the little girl is 'more wary' of men than women.

God have mercy on the children.
May every bureaucrat and judge and lawmaker involved fall in the pit they have dug for such innocent children.
May every bureaucrat reap 10 fold the horrors that await those children.
I’ll not say what I’d do in such a situation but needless to say many bureaucrats worries would be over.
How have people allowed themselves to be so tyrannized by government. My God this is devastating.
Step One: The British were disarmed under the guise of controlling crime.
I will pray the same thing.
Diabetes makes someone unfit to care for a child??? Pray for the children.
The last time the couple saw their grandchildren was shortly after the agreement for them to be adopted but before the decision to place them with a gay couple.
They took dozens of photographs and tried, for the sake of the youngsters, not to break down.
Excerpt fromt he article:
‘Granny, I’m not going to see you for a very long time,’ said the five-year-old boy. ‘Maybe when I’m in Primary Seven I’ll be able to see you.’
‘We’ll try our very hardest to see you soon,’ said his grandmother, choking back tears.
The boy told his grandfather: ‘Grandad, if you want to see me you will have to pick me up because I will be a very long way away.’
Then he added innocently: ‘We are getting a new mummy and daddy.’
(the children did not know they were going to a gay couple-—how criminal to rip them away from the only family they knew)
Thanks for joining in such a prayer of agreement. AMEN!
And DasCallie; and FormerLib;
thanks for your kind affirmation and shared incredulity.
And to think, this is just the beginning of the slide into the abyss . . . in some respects.
No, they’d just be eternally settled into a new abode.
This is heartbreaking...
Then I won’t say that I’d do the same thing.
Too old? At 46, the grandmother could have been a mother herself to 5 and 4 year olds. How very sad.
Good grief. 49? That is unbelievable. My sister had her last child at 45.
Any society that allows themselves to be treated this way deserves it. If this doesn’t make your blood boil and compel you to action, your a lost cause.
Reading the story I think I can guess the ‘social worker’s’ sexual orientation and/or agenda. This is sickening.
Reality has turned upside down.
It is the long reach of technology—mass media communication—to influence, to entice, to impress, to manipulate—this is the hammer that will shape our new world and control our choices.
We are being broken down by madness. And we just watch it happen.
I don’t have any objection to gays adopting, though sending a little girl who has been noted to be uncomfortable with men (probably due to experiences with mommy’s boyfriends) to a gay male couple doesn’t make any sense at all. But I suspect the rejection of the grandparents as permanent caretakers may not have been just age/health-related. After all, it appears they didn’t do such a great job raising the children’s mother who, at 26 years old, is a heroin addict who’s had two children, apparently neither of them sired by men who are willing or able to parent them.
I think they paid more for the kids.
