Sorry for the vanity - I need some Freeper help. I was defending Rush Limbaugh in a forum today, and the person I was debating presented a series of Rush quotes which was supposed to prove his "racism."
I'm a huge Rush fan, and clearly the man is not racist. The mainstream media misquotes him on a daily basis, and I assume these are misquotes or taken out of context.... Does anyone have any "debunk" information/links, that I can use to address the following quotes?
"I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."
"You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed."
"Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"
"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."
"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."
"Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller)"
Thanks in advance!!!
Those don’t sound like any comments that Rush has ever made.
This is a classic trick question. Kind of like “Have you stopped beating your wife?” The better way to handle this is to have the person making the claim that Rush said this, prove it. Have him provide actual source material.
Are those actual quotes, or lib talking points (made up)?
First thing I’d do is ask them to provide the dates when he allegedly made these statements, as well as documentation. For all youknow, these folks just made ‘em up when they started typing. They claim he said these things, they have to provide some proof.
I call complete BS. If you can show links to these quotes, fine, otherwise — see ya, troll!
I have to agree, I’m not a 15 year Rush listener, but those don’t sound like things he would have said. Maybe one of them.
Isn’t it easier to just say “OK, so he’s a racist. So what?”. Then link them to:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2180558/posts?page=1
Agreed. Have them provide the EXACT source of the quotes.........and not in the length of a ‘sound byte’, either. Those can be taken completely out of context.
Snopes.com has a piece on the bone and Jesse Jackson quotes. They acknowledge all evidence is anecdotal, but state that it has been widely reported and Rush hasn’t denied it and in fact acknowledged feeling badly about the “bone” quote, so they “mark it” as true (for whatever that is worth). Probably should note that those comments were made in the 1970s on a show Rush Limbaugh was hosting as a disc jockey, not a commentator.
Take any of those remarks IN context, and no debunking is necessary.
One you did miss:
I like “Barrack the Magic Negro” - except Rush didn't make it up - a liberal columnist at the LA Times did.
Mr. “Snerdly” is black and hasn’t talked to TMZ or one of those rags about how Rush does drugs or whatever. He seems very loyal and that has to come from some where...
how do we know this thread is not a fake in order to spread the urban legend?
this should be deleted as a “no thanks”
These quotes, and make him prove they are actual quotes, are not by Rush, and if they are they are taken out of context. Rush doesn’t say things like that. Make this turkey send you a transcript of the program, either audio or written and then confront him. He won’t be able to send you one. This is a typical lib trick, ascribe dialogue to people that is untrue and make you go on the defensive. Turn it around on him and make him prove Rush actually said these things and in what context.
Yes, i made that exact point on re: the Magic Negro song - that it was a satire proving the racial-obsession by mainstream outlets like the LA Times. Pointing to and lampooning racism is not a racist act.
When i googled these quotes, i got a list of websitesa from the left’s fever-swamp... Disgusting.
I agree. Defending conservative values to liberals is a waste of time. Living and working in a blue city, I have experience.
BUT I have made headways with some of my co-workers. Libs are hypocrites and they hate it when I’m right.
You cannot argue about racism in a one sided argument. The person you wre arguing with is convinced and nothing you can say or do will convince him/her. Dont waste your time you will only get in deeper.
I agree with the former poster who said get this person to show you proof Rush said those things. I personally dont believe he did.
You’re probably right. Somedays they can get to me more than others, i guess. I’m just tired of dealing with ignorance on such a grand scale.
Frustrating!
While yours is good, I would say that the first step would be to agree on a definition of “racism” that does not include references to a ^specific^ race.
Then make the opponent prove the statements (some I do recall) are Rush’s and then how they fit into the already agreed upon definition of racism.
So when did you stop beating your wife?
LOL. Why are you wasting time on this?
This whole new Rush is a Racist thing is going to backfire bigtime....
Step one: Don’t get into “debates” with idiots and liars, as you did. You can’t win, since your opponent is lying. Call him a liar, demand he produce proof, and forget him.
“Never argue with a fool. A listener won’t be able to tell the difference between you and he.” That’s the only quote from Rush that is real. Its also good advice.
Damn right!
Debating a true dyed-in-the-wool Socialist is a complete waste of precious time and sanity...Don’t even bother.
It’s like trying to argue with a 4 yr old about why they cant have Skittles and M&M’s for dinner.
Don’t lower yourself to their level.
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
I have no idea if this a true Rush quote, but either way, its damn accurate!
I am sick of Rush working in his paid commercials into his monolog, “Carbinite” ?? “Back up your computers!” Very annoying
Look if you are for tax cuts you are racist. No other explaination. Conservatives are by liberal definition racists. Jack Kemp was stupid when he said Capital Gain tax cuts will attract blacks to Republican party in droves. They want tax credits not tax cuts.
Wikiquote can tell you which of these quotes are sourced, unsourced and disputed. Note that many of the sources given are of leftist authors.
They don’t to me either. Of course you do realise that liberals make things up. Make them prove where he said any of these things. They usually shut up.

He's making an accusation, simply ask him to prove it. Show you a tape or recording. Everything leaves a record.
The libs used to deny that Al Gore ever said that he 'created the internet' until a mysterious tape appeared.
I created the Internets!
I doubt Rush made those comments I can’t even imagine the context of how they would be made. In particular, what gives the lie here is the last point:
“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller)”
I will bet dollars to donuts he did not make that comment or anything close.
An article on these very same quotes (and others):
http://andrews.blogtownhall.com/2008/10/21/a_request_for_rush_fans.thtml
Here’s all the debunking you need. Anyone who said You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed. on the air would have been thrown off the air. (Imus lost his job for far less) And since that quote is a flat-out lie, let the lyin bastids PROVE the others.
I know Rush and asked him about these supposed quotes and here is his reply on each one:
“I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”
NEVER SAID IT
“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”
NEVER SAID IT.
“Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”
Did say it on TV show, forget context?
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
Said it after New England San Diego playoff game in 2008
“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
Said after Spike Lee wanted all black kids out of school to watch his movie Malcolm X and learn their history
“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back (to an African American female caller)”
Totally out of context. Told story of how management at KUDL KC wanted me to be insult host....I told current audience how much I hated it....was given this line by management to use....related in in a story about how insult radio was NOT my cup of tea and how I knew I had no future doing it.
Here’s what I would do. Ask for sources and if they can’t give you any (they won’t be able to - not real ones anyway) then ask them to listen to Rush for the next 3 weeks and give detailed documentation, (date, time, exact quote) of any ‘racist’ comments he makes. This should shut them up.
To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed....
All you have to say, “I listen to Rush on a regular basis and I have never heard him say anything racist. You don’t listen to him, so why I take your word for what he says over the evidence I have heard with my own ears.”
I have listened to Rush since ‘93 or earlier and I never heard him say these things or anything remotely like them. They are all made up.
Thank you. I thought so.
Agreed. IBTZ.

“Of course you do realise that liberals make things up.”
Oh, yea. In the last 3 or 4 months we have seen the biggest lies that the liberals have ever laid on the ignorant masses.
Right.
How would anyone know that a caller was / is an African American Female? Wouldn’t that be the sign of using stereotypes?

It’s my full post and breaks down the James Earl Ray lie.
I will have more during the week.
