Kate Winslet's chances of Oscar glory are being hit by an orchestrated campaign to dismiss her film The Reader as an apologia for Nazi Germany.

She’s a terrific performer who never does the expected. ‘Little Children’ is excellent for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
I do agree. She will do movies that don't have car chases and laser fire fights.
“And the winner of Best Picture . . . MILK! Take it to the bank.”
Yup, Gay is the in thing amongst the Hollywood establishment. The will reward the makers of this “film” with an Oscar. They will also reward Sean Penn with a best actor Oscar in part for his “courage” to take on such a roll and in part to punish Mickey Rourke for his recent kind words about George W Bush.
“And the winner of Best Picture . . . MILK!
Take it to the bank.”
Sean Penn as a gay man? It can’t lose.
the only way you can really hurt your Oscar chances is by coming out of the “conservative closet”. If she had posters of Hitler in her bedroom it wouldn’t matter to Hollywood-so long as she’s not a dreaded conservative.
No doubt MILK will win. And there is no doubt I will not be watching.
LOL! I bought the book in an airport on my Kindle because my mother (a raving liberal) and her book group thought it was wonderful. I couldn't even finish the thing, it was so preposterous.
What a slacker.

Y’know, for awhile, I thought Kate had it written into her contract that she HAD to do a nude scene in every film she was in.
A practice which should be encouraged.
Or, The Pedophile. If the roles were reversed, every woman’s group in the world would be calling for the banning of the movie. The first hour of the movie is nothing but soft-core pedophilia pornography.
My wife and I went to see knowing absolutely nothing about it other than it’s an Oscar contender. We were both shocked - and we are by no means prudes. It’s very, very racy.

I thought THE READER was a fine movie...
OK, the movie could be called “racy”...That’s because you see Winslet character and her “lover” nude. There are other movies which are more graphic.
After watching THE READER, one would not get the idea that
an affair between a teenager boy and an older woman leads to a happy ending. The boy eventually becomes a lawyer...But, he has problems in his personal life.
Winslet really did a good job.
