I’m not hurting Brownback. Brownback has now hurt himself.

And your so-called smart political thinking is vexing.

There are no two choices in this matter. Abortion is wrong. Now and forever. Get over it.

Sebelius is dangerous with her thinking and should not receive support.

Did you realize that Lincoln did NOT free “All of the Slaves” but ONLY those slaves in the Rebel states?

Lincoln also started the 13th Amendment, freeing all slaves, through Congress. He was killed before it was ratified.

Compromising with evil never works, no matter who you are, no matter what name you want to call me. Be my guest.

“Sebelius, being a “Catholic””

You’ve got to be kidding. Does she openly admit this, a la Pelosi?

Yes, and she has already been scolded by her Bishop.

This appointment might well be the best way to get the “moderate” Catholics to understand the issue better, as her Bishop is not likely to shut up.

True
But Lincoln used strategy.
Lincoln took steps towards his goal.
Lincoln often worked with those who did not share his views, but did not care as much about the issue.

The radical prolifers want a “Human Life Amendment” making all abortion illegal, nationwide.

Anything less than that, they pretty much consider to be a compromise. Yes, I would support the final goal that the radicals have, but it is not possible to do this all at once.

There is nothing at all wrong or immoral about doing the best we can, today, and coming back tomorrow to fight for more.

Walk a mile in my shoes.

First, I believe that Sebelius is a “poison pill” in the Obama Administration. I think he will cause Obama far more harm than good.

Second, I believe that getting Sebelius out of Kansas is a fantastic advance for the prolife movement, in Kansas and nationwide.

Third, I do not believe that Brownback, should he bash Sebelius, would gain any votes, and Sebelius would win confirmation, anyway.

Fourth, I do believe that if Brownback would use this opportunity to bash Sebelius, Sebelius would win confirmation anyway, and Brownback would lose a great many votes for appearing to be a “radical” on the issue. (Again, Kansas voters have shown that they will vote for a prolife candidate, they just do not want a prolife “zealot” or one-issue candidate).

This morning Sebelius’s Bishop condemned her appointment as a bad day for Catholicism, Kansans, and Americans. It looks like Browmback is now at war with the Catholic Church in Kansas.

Notice, the Bishop did not rebuke Brownback.

Most Biships know how to play politics, to some degree.

Folks, there is a chance the Sebelius will be in trouble over an ethics problem, and that might cause her some trouble in the confirmation:

http://kansasmeadowlark.com/2008/06/03/did-sebelius-violate-ethics/

However, I still say that getting Sebelius out of Kansas is great for Kansas, and great for the prolife movement.

If she does not get this cabinet position, who ever takes her place will be just as bad on the issue, but not as harmful to Obama.

At least she won’t be in the Senate. If that is what the Obama Administration is going to do then they will get someone else to do it. If they are not going to do it then it won’t make any difference.

So when Sebelius says, “Catholics like my good friend Senator Brownback understand that reasonable people can disagree...” Brownback’s response will be what, exactly?

Cooperation in the procurement of a single abortion is a mortal sin—Brownback is new at this Catholicism thing, so he might not fully appreciate the gravity of what he’s done.

Notice, the Bishop did not rebuke Brownback.

That is because bishops follow Scripture and will talk to some PRIVATELY before making it public.

If she does not get this cabinet position, who ever takes her place will be just as bad on the issue, but not as harmful to Obama.

Highly unlikely, there are very few people at this level who are anywhere near as militantly pro-abortion as Sebelius, Daschle certainly wasn't.

As governor, Sebelius has systematically ignored the law and promoted abortion as much as possible, at HHS she will push her policies nationwide.

We lost the race for President.
Obama lets babies die, who survive abortion.
Obama would be calling the shots, not Sebelius, and not whoever would replace Sebelius.

You have no right to sit in judgement.

None.

“God Grant me the Serenity to accept the things
I can NOT change
The Courage to change the things I can
And
The WISDOM to know the difference”

Who ever takes this post will be a pro abortion radical.

This pick helps the prolife cause, in that it removes her from Kansas, lets us have a chance at a prolife Governor, and saddles Obama with Sebelius.

NO, Lincoln followed the LAW. Lincoln COULD NOT apply the Emancipation Proclamation to states that were not in rebellion.

The radical prolifers want a “Human Life Amendment” making all abortion illegal, nationwide.

Strange that you would describe the belief that abortion should be abolished as "radical".

I suppose you prefer a more "moderate" approach. Are you a proponent of laws that say, "You must do X, Y and Z, and then you can go ahead and kill the baby"?

There is nothing at all wrong or immoral about doing the best we can, today, and coming back tomorrow to fight for more.

And for Brownback, "the best he can, today" IS NOT supporting a radical abortionist to be Secretary of HHS. If Sebelius was nominated for a position where she could not affect abortion policy (say Secretary of the Interior) it would be different, but the FACT is that Sebelius will now be in a position to spread her militant abortionism nationwide.

Sebelius is, pretty much, an excommunicated Catholic.

Pelosi tried to speak for the Church, and was slapped down.

Sebelius will make the same stupid mistakes, Bishops will then rebuke Sebelius, and millions of people who would other wise not be paying attention will realize that Obama is a proabortion radical.

The “proabortion President” has already been elected, we are wasting time trying to force Obama to hunt for an anonymous proabort, for his cabinet, someone with no paper trail. The end result will be exactly the same.

Brownback didn’t need to say a word. He has supported the advancement of someone he knows supports abortion to the Cabinet position most able to advance abortion. This is material cooperation.

I’m not judging his soul, I’m judging the moral consequence of his actions—which we have to be able to do in order to distinguish right from wrong.

“Don’t judge,” usually means “look away while I do something I’m not willing to defend,” in my experience.
