Diabetes Blogger Experiences Joy Over O's Embryo Destruction Spending

Stem Cell Research Finally Unleashed! (Follow it via JDRF’s New Twitter) As a person with Type 1 diabetes, whose life is all wrapped up in helping others with this incurable illness, it’s hard to express the relief and yes — joy — that I feel knowing that researchers hands will finally be untied by Obama today to freely explore the enormous possibilities of stem cell research!

Fortunately for me, another journalist living with Type 1 named Mike Littwin at the Denver Post has just done an excellent job explaining “our viewpoint” and the ramifications in a column titled “Years Late, Science is on Top in DC.” Mike wears a pump and a CGM, and is grateful for the technology, but he feels like an android, he says. And he cannot understand those who refuse to “go where the science leads.” Bravo, Mike!

In case you somehow missed the big news, President Obama will be signing an Executive Order lifting the federal ban on funding embryonic stem cell research on Monday in a ceremony at the White House. JDRF has been sending out updates, and will have various volunteers and staff members on hand to represent the Foundation.

“This is a special moment for everyone who has worked so hard over the past decade. JDRF wants to make sure that, even though everyone that made this moment possible can’t be at the White House, we can get you as close as possible to the Oval Office!”

My father has Parkinson’s and has jumped on the Michael J. Fox bandwagon of “why not”?

My wife is Type 1 and she is horrified by the stem cell news. She does not want her cure to come from killing embryos.

My Catholic grandmother was diabetic. She would be HORRIFIED at the idea of making her life better at the expense of an unborn child. We should all be crying rivers at this obamanation.

Embryonic stem cells are just nothing more that cover for abortion.

Exactly. Kind of like smoking pot for chemotherapy. Who can argue against a dying cancer patient wanting a little relief from pain. But that is not why it is an issue, it is used to rationalizes bad behavior.

Mike (the author of the article), I just wish they would have started with your fetus a long time ago.

It’s only about killing babies.

I doubt it. That's just the side effect of what they really want, which is unlimited funding forever and ever.

Planned Parenthood doesn't much care about whether abortion results in dead babies, AIDS activist don't much care about AIDS patients, and all other special interest groups don't much care about their cause.

What they ALL care about is attaching themselves to the government tit for as much as they can.

It is time to re-read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Here are some excerpts:

"These," he waved his hand, "are the incubators." And opening an insulated door he showed them racks upon racks of numbered test-tubes. "The week's supply of ova. Kept," he explained, "at blood heat; whereas the male gametes," and here he opened another door, "they have to be kept at thirty-five instead of thirty-seven. Full blood heat sterilizes." Rams wrapped in theremogene beget no lambs.

One egg, one embryo, one adult-normality. But a bokanovskified egg will bud, will proliferate, will divide. From eight to ninety-six buds, and every bud will grow into a perfectly formed embryo, and every embryo into a full-sized adult. Making ninety-six human beings grow where only one grew before. Progress.

Fetal stem cells have produced no positive results

Adult stem cells have produced some downright miracles

It’s only about killing babies.

Amen !

Sure is- something that’s NOT alive doesn’t have its own DNA, doesn’t have its own blood supply and doesn’t undergo cellular reproduction ( unless, of course, it’s dead. )
0bama’s lack of regard for the sanctity of human life is appalling. To him, it’s expendable and a commodity to be exploited.

My comment on the site (under my MoonbatBane sig):

The sole result of this change will be diversion of federal funding from politically boring adult stem cell reseach to politically useful (for the far left pro-abortion crowd) embryonic stem cell research. The biggest difference between these two is that adult stem cell research shows real potential and has led to some actual real-world treatments for real-world diseases (see, e.g., here: http://www.stemcellresearchfacts.com/cures_failures.html), while embryonic stem cell research mostly leads to horrific tumors and has led to ZERO real-world treatments. Therefore, while this change might be all feel-good, the result is going to be a negative for actual advancement of cures for diabetes and other diseases.

It is scary that someone whose very life is affected by this disease and whose very future might depend on good research in this area is so politically and scientifically ignorant. Wow, just wow.

Killing embryos or not, fetal stem cells are not the solution. Adult stemcell research is responsible for curing or successfully treating 85 or better conditions. By the same token, fetal stemcells, even before the research was ended HAVE PRODUCED NOTHING!

The real problem is medicine and medical research linked to treatment versus cure of diseases. All hail government mandated medical insurance, and the cut rate payments to doctors that turn practices from competitive businesses into patient mills.

“If you are not part of the solution, there is BIG MONEY to be made in prolonging the problem!”

The blogger is totally incorrect. Stem cell research didn’t stop with Bush’s order, and it’s ongoing, so Obama’s order doesn’t start it again.

No, it was just an analogy of people using a small side issue instead of promoting what they are really for. Sorry if you were somehow offended by it.

If her life is wrapped up in helping others who suffer from type 1, then how doesn't she know that researchers could always freely explore embryonic stem cell research? SURELY her time spent has included getting out there to raise private funding for such exploration...which has always been legal.

I just checked out her blog and she has a response from “Lucifer.” He says that there is even more potential in aborted fetuses pancreatic beta cells. He encourages her to get the ball rolling on using not just embryo’s but fetuses. Then he blesses her.
