Stem Cell Research Finally Unleashed! (Follow it via JDRFs New Twitter) As a person with Type 1 diabetes, whose life is all wrapped up in helping others with this incurable illness, its hard to express the relief and yes joy that I feel knowing that researchers hands will finally be untied by Obama today to freely explore the enormous possibilities of stem cell research!
Fortunately for me, another journalist living with Type 1 named Mike Littwin at the Denver Post has just done an excellent job explaining our viewpoint and the ramifications in a column titled Years Late, Science is on Top in DC. Mike wears a pump and a CGM, and is grateful for the technology, but he feels like an android, he says. And he cannot understand those who refuse to go where the science leads. Bravo, Mike!
In case you somehow missed the big news, President Obama will be signing an Executive Order lifting the federal ban on funding embryonic stem cell research on Monday in a ceremony at the White House. JDRF has been sending out updates, and will have various volunteers and staff members on hand to represent the Foundation.
This is a special moment for everyone who has worked so hard over the past decade. JDRF wants to make sure that, even though everyone that made this moment possible cant be at the White House, we can get you as close as possible to the Oval Office!

Fetal stem cells have produced no positive results
Adult stem cells have produced some downright miracles
It’s only about killing babies.
“researchers hands will finally be untied”
When were they tied? All that Bush did was keep my taxes from paying for more killing. Now, in addition to my neighbors mortgage, I have to pay so scientists can play Frankenstein on a bunch of human embryos.
here’s the issue. This was happening all along on a private funding level, from what I understand. All this did is stop government funding which now will be allowed. Scientists love it because now they don’t have to do the hard work to lobby for private funds but can now petition the gov for $ which it will easily dole out along with extra money for support. It’s jut more pork.
I hope the cure is found soon but just because there was a limit on federal funding doesn’t mean research wasn’t being conducted.
I love the logic: this could benefit ME, so who cares if other human lives are damaged?
Basically this fool woman is saying she's THRILLED to kill little babies if it may someday, possibly, mean a cure for her illness. But it may not (in fact it probably won't), she will still be ill, and the babies will be dead.
How cruel and thoughtless.
Oh Joy!
You can develop the virulent brain tumor you have always wanted.
Maybe someday soon you will be allowed to just kill someone and take all their vital organs you bstrd....
Ditto.
It has nothing to do with religion, or with religious beliefs, but it seems rather strange that a human would have such a callous attitude towards a developing member of the same species.
I would ask them what they think the embryo is. A dog? A sheep? An animal? A plant? No. Of course not.
Something non-living? Obviously not.
If it’s living, then what kind of a living creature is it? Animal? Plant? Extra-terrestrial? Human?
God will judge them......and us too.
“Its only about killing babies.”
And now there’ll be a market for aborted babies. How far we have fallen.
The whole fetal stem cell research idea reminds me of an old horror movie script where the femme fatale drinks the blood of virgins to stay attractive. The fact that someone could even think about grinding up unborn babies to do research makes me think of Hitler’s human experiments.
I don’t care what disease I had, I would never ever express joy at the death of something or someone else for the possibility of saving my life.
Somebody write this down, and in five years, when the Adult stem cell research has produced all the results, we can hunt these guys down and ask if they will apologise to the dead babies.
Let’s face it. There’s no getting round the FACT that, regardless of the nomenclature - zygote, embryo, fetus, baby - IT IS HUMAN AND IT IS ALIVE.
More money for his special interests.
