Several major GOP power brokers with ties to convicted former Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona are about to lose their concealed weapons permits under an order by the new sheriff.

Those who have received notices of revocation from Sheriff Sandra Hutchens include Michael Schroeder, chief political and legal advisor to Carona and a former chairman of the state Republican Party; Adam Probolsky, a GOP pollster; and Stephen Mensinger, a political ally of Carona and business executive for major GOP benefactor and developer George Argyros, public records show.

Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police are almost always politicians first and cops a distant second. This woman is no different.

Exactly right, after 31 years of LE (I was always a "field hand" as I preferred not to violate my personal standards!) I always was amazed at how these people became instant experts at everything when they pin on a Sheriff's or Chief of Police badge. Needless to say I was always in awe--NOT!

Immediately, they became walking constitutional experts gracing everyone with their (twisted) opinions gleaned from the NYT or had this wonderful x-ray vision into a person's very soul and thought processes.

I thought the State issues the Permits not a Rat wearing a costume.

California is a may issue state. Most states are shall issue conceal carry states.

Here in Missouri (a shall issue state) the sheriff collects a fee, finger prints you, does a back ground check with the FBI and will issue a permit if he/she feels you are ok. This is after you pass an approved cc gun class.

There is a time limit for the sheriff to say yes or no. If the sheriff says no, there is an appeal system in place for the citizen.

California,,,,, it all depends on the local sheriff is my understanding.

.......of an idiot politician posing.....

She WAS elected. By whom, or what, we'll never know. Boxer, Feinstein, Waxman, Watts, ditto. And as far as the CA State Legislature goes, and it's damned far, they are voted in by multiple-voting illegal aliens, some of whom are actually alive.

Check in with B1 Bob Dornan, who thought illegal Mexicans were cute and hard workers who do a hell of a job on the lawn, until Loretta Sanchez used them, alive, dead, and completely imaginary, to cheat him out of office.

I’m sure this is all part of an attempt to stim that huge flood of fully automatic rifles they suddenly claim are sneaking into Mexico and causing the drug war.

Yea, sure. LIARS!

Wow, that is very very ominous. Is California a “shall issue” state? Even if its not, revoking permits of political opponents should get her removed from office.

This is why California needs a "shall issue" law or amendment. But with the current makeup of the legislature that will never happen. The only way it will happen is if we do it through ballot initiative.

Thank You I was confused about this issue of politics and CCW But they have conveniently used the local Sheriff to control the issue of permits.

In most counties across the USA the local sheriff is the top law enforcement officer

It is my understanding that in several counties in California the sheriff will issue a concealed carry permit.

In other counties even if you have proof that a stalker is going to try to kill you tonight the sheriff will not issue.

She was APPOINTED because the former Sheriff was a crook and got indicted for corruption and witness tampering.

She looks like a young Helen Thomas.

So, did any democrats lose their permits?

So whatever the sheriff decides is "the law."

That seems a little broad. Are you a lawyer?

Nope, but that was exactly the case in Jackson Co, MO, years ago. The only way a civilian could get a CCW before MO passed the "shall issue" law was you had to become a "reserve deputy." Funny how only friends of the sheriff were able to "join up." And when the sheriff was replaced, it was interesting how if the old and new sheriff weren't "connected," all those people would lose their CCW permits. There were attempts to take the sheriff to court, but I believe that they were thrown out on the grounds that MO didn't allow civilians to carry concealed weapons to begin with. So only those with "connections" could carry.
