New Mormon anti-freeper site and campaign to bankrupt FR
rumor mill | March 29, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/29/2009 2:35:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.

I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.

If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.

And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

God bless.

Lol, and what is the history of Christianity? Spread far and wide after Rome fell apart. There will always be “Nazi socialists”rising and falling and murdering many. How many millions of Christians have been murdered in this century alone? When you pick up your cross to follow Christ, martyrdom is a distinct possibility. If you don’t know that going in, it’s not for you

In the current situation if you don’t put the constitution and the republic as your first priority then you may likely end up with your beliefs being banished by the Nazi socialists who are in power. History is full of destroyed peoples and civilizations who thought this way.

But you make my point. These civilizations were destroyed -- and we're all going to die, anyway. Either way, death awaits us. Therefore, eternity has to retain our foremost attention.

Secondly, if you know anything about history at all, the Assyrians are a group of people which shot themselves in the foot because of their ultra-violence. Even though they repented en masse when Jonah visited them, a generation later they returned to their evil ways. Certainly, a sovereign God knew they would wind up a fraction of what they once were. But what did He do? He still sent Jonah as a missionary to them because of His concern and compassion for them.

Why would God make such a priority on a people group going down culturally? Why? Because even though most of the Assyrians returned to their ugly ways, some of them died before that happened. There's Assyrians from that era in heaven because of God's concern and Jonah's presence there.

Now I'm not by any means suggesting that we need to diminish the culture wars...that needs to be full speed ahead...but that doesn't mean that in order to do so, we call all "Jonah" types home to fight on the home-based front. That's not only a misguided notion, but an offense to a missionary-minded God.

Nice to see you Girl. You often are a voice of reason and level-headedness, kindess and love - A true example of what Mormonism is all about.

Indeed!

She's ALWAYS be civil and well mannered and her thoughts have coherency to them.

I disagree with them, she is a class act.

I have never understood the negative emotions regarding Mormons.

That's becuase you've missed the point.

It's not MORMONs we are against: but MORMONism that is so false and anti-Christian.

Actually it is Nevada that gave you Harry Reid. Most Mormons can’t stand the man.

Has he been ex-communicated?

You're missing the point my good FRiend. The question is not about whether religious differences should be debated, but whether this, a conservative website & quasi think-tank, is the forum for these issues.

Is this the forum to bash the heads in of fellow conservatives, or a place for us ALL to come together for the common good of the cause? If you feel you're doing the latter, you're sadly mistaken & indeed falling into Alinsky’s trap.

I don't believe I have ever seen you or many of the rest of the cabal consistently lock arms w/ us here towards the cause of conservatism. Instead, you have done nothing but try & tear down those incredibly important alliances. If you feel the need to satisfy yourself by tearing down LDS, perhaps you could do it where it doesn't affect the conservative cause & stopping socialism & the other evils we now face.

I’m the resident FR Methodist Elder and Neener in good standing, I think. Since we don’t keep lists and “good standing lists” would constitute keeping a list, then I don’t really know that I’m in good standing.

And, just to be clear about being in good standing, I’m actually sitting. The chair could be a bit more comfortable, so I can affirm that I’m a resident FR Methodist Elder NOT in good sitting.

In my favor, however, is that the listless would more likely be found sitting than standing.

Pity.

I have recently subscribed to a great genealogy site based in Utah. I don't know whether the Mormons run it, but it is good value. It was they who painstakingly transcribed with non-Mormon volunteers, the census for 1880 in the United States and the 1881 census for England/Wales and Canada. All for free. Others grabbed the many previous and post 1881 census records and one has to pay for entry.

The Mormons very, very involved with family history and records. A thought has struck me (duck). There is a certain matter they could research.

Take a trip to Honolulu. (chuckle).

You may not have called for Sevenbak’s banning or hit the abuse button, but someone did. Because of that, we've lost yet another in a long line of arch conservatives here at FR. For me, that's beyond sad. Sevenbak, as well as many more before him, shared most if not all the same views & passions towards conservatism. The difference? A different religious belief. For that, he was baited into an area he probably never wanted to go. His goal was simply to defend his religion & his God...But another significant reason is that there is a faction of our movement that seems hell bent on eating their own. The scenario that just played out w/ Sevenbak is a glaring example of just that. We've lost yet another key player in the movement here at FR.

Wow! Just wow, Reno! Why do you excuse miscues and sin in people's lives? I don't know you well enough, so please explain. I can think of reasons why that might apply to some Mormons -- but I don't know if they're applicable to you. (For example...notions that LDS need to be perfect or that LDS are "gods-in-embryo").

Sevenbak apparently gets banned b/c of his comments about FR on another posting board. What? Did Christian FREEPERS put on a leash on him and force him into that posting board? Did Christian FREEPERS establish that posting board as some kind of "come on" to "bait" him -- as you claim? Wasn't an LDS posting board established primarily for LDS posters???

You really believe that somehow Sevenbak lost his "free agency" because of the overwhelming online sovereignty we must have? -- and that "...he was baited into an area he probably never wanted to go."

Really? Really? Where's sense of responsibility for free agency among LDS? We hear them preach "free agency" all the time? Where's your sense of self-responsibility? Where's your comprehension of the founding fathers' vision of self-government? Before ANY vision of a political government, we MUST have one of a self- government!!! Because if we have no self-government, there's not enough laws, ordinances, codes, detectives, policemen, district attorneys, court rooms, and prisons to hold us all!!!!!!

All you've done, Reno, with this latest evidence of your pattern of blame-shifting is 100% reinforce what I wrote in post #1100, which I will repeat for all to see ... and no, I don't bow to your judgmental heart theories where you use your personal urim & thummim to see into the hearts of people you don't want to know very well, but would rather just legalistically judge them from afar (your comment about ...are you moving the conservative cause along by your actions, or just satisfying your narcissistic tendencies).

Here's the post you made to JR earlier in the thread: Jim, I’m fascinated by your virtual disappearance since posting this thread. With all that’s been said here & posted to you, I would think you would have had more to say. Surely you knew the firestorm this thread would create.

And here was my response:

Typical LDS re-shift. A spammer starts an anti-FR site. Jim addresses it head-on. Who does Reno believe to be the instigator? The anti-FR spammer? (Nope) Instead he puts the collar on Jim: "Surely you knew the firestorm this thread would create."

Instead of Reno holding the spammer site accountable, he blames Jim as the "creator" of a firestorm.

This is the perfect microcosm of what's been happening for 179 years. Before any Christian ever even knew of the word "Mormon," the founding vision of Joseph Smith was: "they [other sects/churches] were ALL wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were ALL corrupt" (from Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith-History 1:19).

This was never just left as Joseph Smith's opinion. A later generation of Mormons elected to enshrine this statement into the Mormon Scripture "Hall of Fame" -- they canonized it as God's opinion of all non-Mormon sects/churches/members.

LDS leaders then went on to press Christians that they all apostatized -- all, that is, except a 2,000-year-old apostle named John and three Nephite disciples even older than John (they said these people are still wandering the earth somewhere).

The original "anti" was Joseph Smith. He was "anti-Christian." He was against the Christian church, claiming they were wrong, 100% corrupt and embraced 100% putrid creeds. But what do Mormons do? They re-shift the focus. No, it's not Joseph Smith and his leaders who followed who were the protagonists raising up firestorms everywhere they went; 'twas these "antis."

That's been the Mormon narrative all along. It doesn't mean that Christians have never reacted badly in these exchanges. Some/many have. That's also part of history.

But we see in this thread a microcosm of the dynamics involved.

Makes more sense to me that it is a few people and not the WHOLE people.
Based on my life experience Mormons are nice people.
I don't agree with their religious beliefs, but that's OK, this is America.
