Pelosi pledges compromise on assault weapons ban

Pelosi pledges compromise on assault weapons ban @ 10:29 am by Michael O'Brien

The ball is in Congress's court to craft a compromise in reinstating regulations on assault weapons, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledged Tuesday.

During an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Pelosi said that the Congress will work to find some middle ground between the previous ban, which expired in 2004, and the precedent laid by the Supreme Court in a ruling enumerating more concrete gunowners' rights last term.

"We have to find some level of compromise," Pelosi said, citing 53 victims of gun violence nationwide in less than a month. "And we have to rid the debate of the misconceptions people have about what gun safety means."

"Yes, it is," the Speaker said when asked if the ball is in Congress's court now that Democrats control the White House. "And we are just going to have to work together to come to some resolution."

Pelosi indicated that new regulations might entail registration and prohibitions on transporting some firearms across state lines.

The Speaker also expressed displeasure at the attachment of a gun rights provision to legislation that would grant Washington, D.C. a voting member of Congress.

"Right now, we have the debate in Congress over the District of Columbia wanting a vote on the floor of the House, something we all want. That's a civil rights issue," she said, pledging to find "middle ground" on the issue. "And, yet, they want to put a gun…bill, attach that to that. I don't — I don't think that that should be the price to pay to have a vote on the floor of the House."

Well, this will certainly stop the run on guns and ammunition /s

LOLOLOL!! It's almost like all the evil gun manufacturers and sellers got together and said "Hey! Business is down a bit - let's elect a Democrat President and Congress. That will drive some sales."

Seriously though, it's so ironic that the very people who so strongly advocate gun control drive sales of guns to HUGE proportions by their very presence in positions of power. I'm sure the irony is lost on them.

Gun control works. That’s why there is no gun crime in Chicago or Washington DC and Vermont is so dangerous.

There is no compromise. More gun regulations will do nothing for you idiots other than to do a remake of 1994. If you are THAT stupid try it.

This probably could be left for another thread but...

According to JAMA 2000:

12,000 deaths per year due to unnecessary surgeries

7000 death per year from medical errors in hospitals

20,000 deaths per year due to other errors in hospitals

80,000 deaths per year due to infections from hospitals

106,000 per year due to the negative effects of drugs

Sounds like we need to have Congress look into hospitals and their drugs.

Universal Health care anyone?

Re:”Pelosi indicated that new regulations might entail ... prohibitions on transporting some firearms across state lines.”

The current War on Some Drugs can’t keep tons of drugs and millions of illegal aliens from crossing our southern border, and they think thay can somehow affect interstate movement of firearms. There won’t be enough prisons for all the folks who will ignore or circumvent such controls.

But of course, the point isn’t to be effective, it’s to mover closer to a further concession. When a socialist asks for a compromise, they are looking for concessions.

There’s future wealth to be made in this nonsense. The market will respond, even if it’s a black market.

As compared to 25,000 dead Americans each year at the hands of ILLEGAL IMMAGRANTS!!!

All premeditated based on their illegal status.

“They can say and do whatever they want, but once they start coming for the guns, the war begins, in earnest.”

We may have to push our “line in the sand” forward a bit. It’s beginning to look like they may never come for the guns. Instead, they may cut off the supply of ammo and/or reloading supplies.

Worse, we could be left holding a few million rounds of ammo, plenty of guns to fire it but no way to coordinate our actions. On April 1 (yeah, April Fool’s Day, I’m not kidding, either!) Senators Rockefeller and Snowe introduced a bill which - if passed - would allow the President complete and unfettered control of the internet. He could shut it down in parts or in it’s entirety. He could demand files and lists from ISPs and forum owners.

Think about it: The government owns the auto industry, the banks and - soon - the hospitals. It already controls the food industry through import/export rules and agricultural subsidies. By locking up several million acres of range land in National Monuments and Parks .gov has impacted our supply of meat.

Like any good magician, our government has kept our attention focused on his right hand (our guns) while his left hand has stolen our wallets.

Yesseree! The “usual suspects” blamed in 1963 and 1968!

TV violence!
Violent films!
Violent comics!

Poor discipline.
Poor schools.
Bad role models.

Guns were available to anyone anywhere. Cash and carry! Filling stations, grocery stores, clothing stores, hardware stores. through the mail! Yet there were few mass murders. Now why is that.

Radio perhaps?

It's starting to look like the Obozo administration is leaning more Fascist than Socialist – not that it really matters either way in the end.

Ahhh — how about the systematic destruction of what USED TO be known as the MORAL ABSOLUTES and TRADITIONAL VALUES based on a SPIRITUAL belief that we will all answer for our deeds at some point during — or AFTER — our lives?

I believe all of that was nominally called “God.”

The Founding Fathers left us a system based on the belief that our rights come from God. We have replaced Him with the god of the state. And if you believe that the state gives you your rights, you have no right to complain when the state takes them from you.

The world has been turned on its head, what was wrong is now right, what was bad is now either excused or ignored or called good. And all of that destruction was carried out by what we now call the left. They are nomimally guided by the words of Marx, Lenin, et al who put in writing that a believe in a God above the state was a form of mental illnes and called religion “the opiate of the masses.”

Until we turn back to Him and the left us defeated, it will only get worse. The bottom of the pit into which we are falling is not yet in sight.

Standing by for MONUMENTAL, RECORD-SETTING FLAMING from the agnostics, aetheists and libertines who dwell or lurk here.

For starters, it was assumed that the Federal District would have a Conflict of Interest in voting for appropriations involving the Federal Government.

That aside, the RKBA IS a Civil Right.

Let's compromise, Nancy, lets repeal all Federal Gun Control Laws. We'll start with that, and maybe we can find some middle ground.

After all, it is inherently obvious to me that incredible slaughter tends to happen when Democrats are in power. Perhaps it is the higher stress from being taxes witless, perhaps it is the tanking economy, or the realization that the dollar is becoming worth less than the paper it is printed on. Maybe it has something to do with IRAs worth half what they were.

I do not claim to know the full pathology, but I can sure see what having Democrats in power seems to do: namely bring the nutters out of the woodwork, and unfortunately, some of them are armed.

If the rest of the population, the would-be sheepdogs, were not complying with your ridiculous laws and disarmed, they might be able to do something about it.

Now, lots of my gun nut friends are going to scream bloody murder at my notion that a fundamental right should be qualified by this kind of process ...

Yep.

But if you can persuade your anti-gun friends to give up on the means for confiscation, I think I can get my friends to agree.

Not this one, FRiend.
