Not particularly impressive; The current world record for aimed bolt-action fire was set in 1914 by a musketry instructor in the British Army — Sergeant Instructor Snoxall — who placed 38 rounds into a 12 inch wide target at 300 yards (270 m) in one minute.

Sgt Snoxall was firing accurately with a bolt-action rifle nearly as fast.

I find it hard to believe that stands as a world record, even as a record with an Enfield.

He had another weapon in the other hand. It would seem that sould impede his ability to replace a magazine.

Stupid reporters .. they could have been told 298 shots in a minute and they would have printed that. We need to take some of these folks to the range.

That is awfully fast!! I’m just remembering the shake factor when I got my first deer. If I’d had to reload I would have been shaking for a minute before I could do it.
I can’t imagine being so steady and calm as to be able to pull this off? Shooting people?
Did this guy have that much experience handling guns? Was he at a rifle range all the time.

I’m not comprehending the ability to do this.

Who said he had a weapon in each hand?

Explains why I’m not comprehending...lol. I’ve never been to a range...but I can still think about how it would be possible, I can’t see it.

It was also done (I’m pretty sure) with iron sights.

Can you beat it?

Do you know anyone who might beat it?

I just researched it and couldn't find anything different. Let's see, 38 rounds is 7 reloads starting with a full rifle. Had I realized this as a younger man I think I would have had a go. A 12" bull at 300 yards on open iron sights every second isn't wildly tough and the turned down bolt handle of the Enfield is definitely a plus over the straight handle Mausers. That said, I will bet that Snoxall shot in the combat form of the Mad Minute, retrieving his clips from pouches and did not have them laid out on a table. That would be a trick. Seven reloads in about 12 seconds.

I think I'm still going to give this a try. As a matter of fact, it sounds like a great Freeper Event in the making.

Do you think he was trading weapons and still got off 87 rounds in such a short period of time?

98 rounds in a minute, including reloads, isn’t hard - especially when accuracy isn’t an issue. Assuming about 15 rounds per mag, that’s 7 mags including 2 already loaded, requiring only 5 reloads. Assuming a reasonable 2 seconds per reload for a motivated & moderately-practiced individual that leaves 50 seconds, more than enough when firing 2-3 rounds per second. Considering how far someone can walk in a minute, and the density of victims, the numbers work out fine. Historically unusual, but far from unreasonable.

Your math is off a little.

Let’s assume he fired 40 rounds and missed two.

The SMLE holds 10 in the magazine, each stripper-clip holds five. That would mean he reloaded six clips-worth.

The problem I’ve got trying this is that the rounds bind up in the clip, and don’t load smoothly. Maybe I should try deforming the clip out slightly so it doesn’t grip as tightly.

Yes, it does sound like a good Freeper Event; after I practice a lot more.

I wasn’t too shabby with a bolt action rifle back in the day. But I don’t think I’m quick enough anymore to reload strippers that fast.

"Shots are coming from the second floor ... assailant still in the building ... standby until you get backup," one dispatcher advises police at the scene.
"Nobody go in that building alone," warns another.

Right. For that locality, mustn't Protect and Defend is there’s any danger involved.
He fired almost 100 rounds a minute? Mighty quick hands and fingers.

Shortly before he expired, Jeff Cooper put forth a challenge observing “a marksman who can put 20 hits into a 20 inch circle in 20 seconds at a 1000 yards must certainly be regarded as extraordinary” - nobody really questioned the possibility that it could be done, it was just a matter of someone actually doing it on record.

Firing 5 times as much in 3 times the period with far less accuracy using a semi-auto is entirely doable with little skill.

Just to be a smartass, the poster asked how many bullets the GUN would hold.

That’s one.

The magazines, now, that’s a different story.
