Its tough to get a job when you cant prove who you are.
Colorado Springs resident Kevin Dobkins knows. He said his identification documents were lost more than a year ago, and he has been homeless since.
You cant do anything without an ID, Dobkins said. Youre out of luck, youre nobody, you dont exist.
The 36-year-old is among a growing number of legal residents feeling the effects of an effort to stop illegal immigrants from receiving government benefits. Homeless people are especially hard hit, advocates say.

This law is stupid! Its communism pure and simple and it doesn't work. Illegal aliens still are able to bypass the law and the poor and weakest are the ones hit. I know what its like because I worked with someone in a homeless shelter who was unable to get an ID or any of those docuements and in the end Legal aid services and a case worker had to step in and vouch for him. No citizen should have to go through that!

The legal aid had his case worker send a photo id of herself to request the docs on his behalf. He had to pay 12$ that he got recycling trash and panhandling.

I don’t think it’s all that hard to get a certified copy of one’s birth certificate.

He had to pay 12$ that he got recycling trash and panhandling. $12.00 and a Fax, so there was nothing to it. I remember when you posted about him, he is young, not long out of high school and had at least an uncle if I remember, you had described it as a nightmare and we told you that it would be easy.

It wasn’t for me, as I had to get several (mine and my sons) when ours were destroyed by a water leak. I just walked into Vital Statistics, filled out a form & signed it, and I had it in 5 minutes. Same with my father’s death certificate. My husband needed his from another state, he got it with relative ease.

I don’t believe this for a second. You can be present of the United states now without an id.

I’m going to call BS on this- I have lost all of my documents and it was not that hard to replace them all. If you know when and where you were born you can replace your birth certificate in a short time. If you had a driver’s license or state ID you can easily get a duplicate and the same is true for a Social Security card though that one takes longer. I had a duplicate driver’s license in one day and had all my stuff replaced in two weeks, not that hard.

This looks like part of an overall effort to make it easier for illegals to get documents that only legals should have and to vote in our elections.

No, not really, some states its very difficult. Sometimes the programs and charities are not there. A friend of mine was homeless in California and he had a hell of a hard time since nobody wanted to help him.
