Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

Naples, Florida around lunch time on US 41, tea partiers were lining both sides of the highway for a few blocks. I said in another post around the Vanderbilt Beach area, but it was actually around Pine Ridge Rd (we’re getting used to the area). I’m not good at estimating sizes...just checked the Naples Daily News and they said it was around 2000. We were headed out to look at houses. There were lots and lots of people in their cars blowing their horns, waving, and giving the thumbs up, including us!

I guess there is another one this evening in Naples as well near the Naples Bath and Country Club. The newspaper website says at about 5 that traffic to the event was very heavy and backed up in both directions as a lot of cars were turning into the event.

Crowd attendance in Chicago was estimated around 10,000. That felt about right. The rally spot was Dirksen Federal Plaza which holds about 10,000 - 12,000 people was about 90% full with the crowd overflowing onto the city streets.

It was a GREAT rally. Crowd was fantastic. Everyone was polite to each other, lots of pictures of signs, etc..

My after-action report can be found on my blog: NoBamaNation

That’s so funny.I guess it’s hard to estimate these things. I just got off the phone with a family member who was there and she said the local paper estimated over 2500 there. She was guessing it was closer to 4000.

I asked the police and they estimated we had 1,000 show up in Bellingham, WA. However, I noticed that there was a constant flow of people leaving and being replaced as folks got off work... so it is really hard to tell...

NH FReepers (2) posted on NH forum 1000 or more in ManchLand...I’d believe it but it would have to have been past 45 minutes in given WMUR led off 6PM report w/ camera scan and est of 500.
Another had Plymouth at 200.

I won’t claim to be a good estimator, but I’d put Carson City, NV at 2000+.

Chicago, Federal Plaza overflowing, cold and windy, probably 4,000-5,000. I have not seen any media "Reports" so I don't know how my guess jibes with them.

Two news reports (WLS, WMAQ) put the crowd over 10,000 which is about right. I was there. Dirksen Federal Plaza holds 10,000 - 12,000 people. It was easily 90% full with some overflow onto the street. 10,000 or just over felt about right based on the reports I saw on TV and with my own eyes.

John Ensign was just on the radidio...he is a good guy...admitted to a couple of bad votes...said he screwed up and has learned from it.

I actually live in Idaho now but am a UNR grad and am in town on biddness and snuck out to the rally. Impressed with both Ensign and Heller.

I was there too. Very close to the stage where Mancow was speaking. We were stuffed in there like sardines. I brought my 3 kids and my husband. It was great even though it was cold!
