Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

The parking at the Lisle (western Chicago suburb) tea party was so overflowed by 11:50am that cars were lined up for BLOCKS looking for any spots that didn't say "no parking" on the side streets etc. I ended up parking in the lot of a nearby industrial center.

From my vantage point on the picnic table behind the dais/speaking platform, I could see that the cars were streaming along during at least the first half of the rally cruising for parking spots.

So I would actually estimate the number of the people who WANTED to attend the Lisle rally but COULDN'T at about 200-250 easily. So add that to my 2000 number above ;-).

Chicago, Land of Lincoln who freed the slaves and Land of Obama who enslaved the free:

That would make a great bumper sticker.

They stated about 5,000 from the podium in Fort Worth -— we filled LaGrave Field into the overflow seating! They also stated that it might be one of the largest “Tea Parties”.

"On the bright side, KYW1060 had a really balanced, fair report on the event. Hadas Kuznitz (?) reported that people were fired up, that it wasn’t a partisan event, and that people who attended were not protesting paying taxes as much as the profligate spending of tax dollars."

That's good news for the Philadelphia event. We watched the ABC coverage at 6, which also seemed pretty reasonable and balanced - better than I'd expected.

My estimate of the Love Park crowd today was in the 300-400 range, with the higher number reflecting people moving in and out. It was miserable weather: 41 degrees, rainy and breezy. The crowd was polite and enthusiastic.

Lake Havasu City, AZ at least 500, I took pictures and people were packed in like sardines, they had to stop car traffic over the bridge due to all the people. Given our max population is 50,000 at the height of snowbird season, this was pretty significant turnout.

What he said! I went and had a beer at TGIF waiting for the train and I was talking to this guy who also went. He estimated the number to be about 6000!

The low side figure on the “Million Man March” was about 675k. We’re closing in on it with a lot of cities unreported, and some events, like San Diego’s, starting late.

Comcast.net FanVideo of Glenn Beck's coverage of the San Antonio/Alamo Tea Party

15,000 is a good but probably conservative number!

I don’t want to dispute anyone’s totals, but the Duluth, MN, paper said that there were “about 700” there instead of 1000 as is posted. They are libbies, so they could have misundercounted? :D

There are a lot of towns not reported. I know there was a Tea Party in Buena Park, California for instance. We were deciding between that one and the one in Seal Beach.

These are mostly estimates being compiled from this thread - could be off several hundred up or down I’m sure! There should be more accurate numbers once folks count from photos and signatures.

Please chime in with an estimated number. Check the local newspaper websites to see if they have stories and post the info here!
