A Louisiana driver has been stopped and detained for having a "Don't Tread on Me" bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the "subversive" message it sent, according to the driver's relative.

The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND she knew nothing about the traffic stop, during which the "suspect" was investigated for "extremist" activities, the relative said.

During the 1960s and 70s all kinds of hell was openly and freely raised by the "alternative media" (proudly proclaiming themselves the "underground" press). This of course was the propaganda media for the Marxist hippie street rabble against "the Establishment."

Berkeley Barb, East Village Other, Ramparts, and others I cannot remember just now. There was also of course MSM propaganda for the Marxist hippie street rabble against "the Establishment."

Now guess what? The 1960s Marxist hippie street rabble and their ideological issue are "the Establishment." And guess what again. The bastards suddenly do not believe in free speech -- they never did of course.

Conservatives knew that -- ironically it was us who were silenced.. by the "Fairness Doctrine."

They've had trouble before. They had a cop they had to fire because he was stopping attractive girls.

I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a department of any size where this hasn't happened. Except for possibly the getting fired part.

My custom plate is "FREEPER".

A couple days ago a hot little sports car that had been parked behind me, backed up an on ramp (I was parked in a parking lot), pulled up beside me, rolled down his window and yelled "What's a Freeper?" He must have been a rabid Lib, because when I told him, he hit the gas and took off spraying me with gravel.

Seen at work: "God bless our troops...especially our snipers."

I share the sentiment, but it is just a little eerie. Snipers are a world apart...

Read up on some of the things that have been done in Louisiana by troopers. I avoid the state like the plague (or swine flu take your choice).

If you can get a magnetic sticker, you can place the bumper sticker on it. That way you can remove it when visiting enlightened liberal areas.

Commenting on something like that is really not appropriate when stopping someone. It could even create a misinterpretation.

Hmmm I hope they don't tread on Sassy when she carries her flag or sign here in NJ. I am sure she would have plenty to say if a cop talked to her....She knows what to say if she gets arrested. Maybe I will tell her to avoid the police if possible.

Now, where’s the fun in that??? I work in public education. While McJuan was not my choice in the Primary, I placed a McCain/Palin sticker on my vehicle for the General Election. It’s still there - and generates looks and a few comments. There’s a level of pleasure in working at a public school and parking my vehicle with the assorted military support stickers and the McCain/Palin sticker on it. The “Don’t Tread On Me” will fit right in with the other stickers.

I'm familiar with Ball. I had friends who wouldn't drive through Ball because the cops harrassed them to much. I was followed for 5 miles once and then stopped and given a sobriety test (I'm a teetotaller) simply for driving through town too late.

I know where that town is, but haven't driven through there recently. Don't know anything about the cops being overly zealous (or just plain bored). I do know that lots of small towns are dusting off those questionable old police tactics that I'd hoped were gone for good, just to bring in revenue.

I saw one area near Shreveport, LA where the speed limit had been reduced 10 mph since my last visit. Good thing I noticed, too - the area was crawling with police cars. As I've seen many times before, they zero in on the people driving BMWs, Mercedes and the like.

The latest thing I've noticed, on I-35E north of downtown Dallas, during late afternoon rush hour, was motorcycle cops riding *opposite traffic* on either side of the main traffic lanes (on the shoulder and in the HOV lane), trolling nice and slow so they can see if everyone has a current inspection sticker - and catch any drivers who aren't wearing seat belts.

I started taking an alternative route, just on principal. Next thing you know, they'll be handing out tickets if your license plate frame is 1/8" too wide, or something.

I don’t like bumper stickers on my vehicles

Put it low or high, depending on your vehicle, on the outside of the back window. When the time comes you can scrape it off easily, and I find "goo gone" works great at taking up the residue of the "stick 'em". I usually use it when I change out my state registration sticker.

Of course, this needs vetting, but I find the closing statement of more concern than anything else here.

....for the lexicon defines "alternative media" as "a term used to describe various information sources that provide a forum for interpretations of events and issues that differ radically from those presented in mass media products and outlets."

The question of how willing law enforcement and government agents will be to enforce edicts handed down by an administration that labels veterans as potential terrorists has a partial answer ... Dissent was patriotic last term ... this term it will get you arrested.
